^ how many times do you leave the country every year?

Surely you'd be better off on a non-o multi entry based on marriage that gets you 90 days in country every time, is valid for 15 months if you time it right and you won't have to go and piss about or leave your dough in a Thai bank and fuck about with immi officers this TM 30 bullshit and their home visit and draw me a map to your house bullshit

Yeah mate, that's what I've got (post 120). Was wondering if I should still be doing the TM30 reporting. I leave the country 5 or 6 times a year.

Sorry Mendip, just read your previous post. You don't need to register and can get your non o from Savannakhet Laos for 5000 baht.

You're only a 5 and half hour drive from Mukdahan on this side of the border

Neither do I. I have had a yellow house book for 12 years. Been in the same house for 20. My name is on the initial loan agreement long since paid off. My wife does not believe any of this TM 30 stuff, as she sadly is a supporter of the present government. She well knows I have reported my address 4 times a year for those 20 years.

When and if they decide to fine me they will have to fine my wife who is the legal owner of my house. If some immigration guy wants to get into it with her more power to him. I am just going to wait and see how it plays out. In May I got my yearly visa and paid a visit to the Police headquarters to be fingerprinted. Then left the country for a month and came back in with no problems.

I sure as hell aint going to get worked up over this bullshit. Been here too long for that..

They won't fine you. It's the house owner they're after.

I didn't get worked up over it. In fact the first I'd heard of a TM 30 was when me and the missus walking into immigration 6 months ago and they asked her for 500 Baht for failing to report. They never gave a receipt and that's when my anger jumped in. Fair go if you get a receipt but..........

I would not want to be in that immigration office if that happens. Not joking at all.

It reads to me that it's just hotels who have to report it

. The acting head of Thai Immigration Lt-Gen Sompong Chingduang appears to be stepping up his policy of making sure that all house owners and hoteliers report the whereabouts of foreigners within 24 hours or face fines.

He has also warned foreigners staying longer than three months to make their 90 day reports or face fines.

Thai news site Naew Na - who have become somewhat of a mouthpiece for immigration in recent days - featured the latest stories about officers acting on Sompong or Big Oud's orders.

In Chonburi at Sunset Village Beach resort in Jomtien and at the "1000 Resort" in Phichit immigration found everything to be in order.

But in Roi-Et a house owner was fined.

And in Singburi a house in Moo 13 Mai Dat sub-district was surrounded and the house owner was fined under section 38.

The message from these stories - appearing in Naew Na almost every day recently - is clear:

If you have a foreigner staying in your address it must be reported within 24 hours.

If you are on a long stay visa make sure you report your whereabouts every 90 days.

    TM.30

Over the past year, Thai immigration have started to more strictly enforce its requirement of the reporting of the locations of foreigners staying in Thailand.

The requirement isn’t new and is actually part of the 1979 Immigration Act, covered under section 38, which reads:

“House owners, heads of household, landlords or managers of hotels who accommodate foreign nationals on a temporary basis who stay in the kingdom legally, must notify the local immigration authorities within 24 hours from the time of arrival of the foreign national."

“The notification of residence of foreign nationals is made by the manager of licensed hotels according to the hotel act, owners of guesthouses, mansions, apartments and rented houses using the form TM. 30”.

If you are staying in a hotel, then the hotel will complete the TM.30 on your behalf.

However, if for example you have friends or family staying with you at your home in Thailand you have a responsibility to submit a TM.30 within 24 hours of their arrival so that immigration know your friends are staying at your address.

If you live in a rented property in Thailand, your landlord needs to submit a TM.30 to tell immigration you are living at that address.

Likewise, perhaps you or your wife owns a property in Thailand which is rented out to a foreigner, you also have a responsibility to submit a TM.30 form.

If you live in a house which is in your wife’s name and you are not named on the tabian baan, then your wife is required to submit a TM.30 form telling immigration you live there.

As mentioned, the requirement to submit a TM.30 is not new but it is now being more rigorously enforced.

Failing to complete a TM.30 can result in a fine of up to 2,000 baht.

You can submit the TM.30 form at your local immigration office.

If there is not an immigration in your province, the form can be submitted at your local police station.

The TM.30 can also be submitted online but the system only works for Chrome and Internet Explorer users.

As with many rules and regulations from immigration, the actual requirements may differ from one office to another.

To confirm exactly what is required in your province, contact your local immigration office.

You can download the TM.30 form here.

    Chew on this.

"Section 38 : The house – master , the owner or the possessor of the residence , or the hotel manager
where the alien , receiving permission to stay temporary in the Kingdom has stayed , must notify the
competent official of the Immigration Office located in the same area with that hours , dwelling place or
hotel, within 24 hours from the time of arrival of the alien concerned. If there is no Immigration Office
located in that area , the local police official for that area must be notified."
Last time I went to my local cop shop was to ask for an official stamp requested by my UK bank as to my address in Ting Tong Land. Top man there said 'No can do. We have no stamps'. Dunno if he was taking the piss but he missed out on a couple of hundred Baht. Went to immigration and they did it.

    Well, I don't know...

    From your quotes:

If you live in a house which is in your wife’s name and you are not named on the tabian baan, then your wife is required to submit a TM.30 form telling immigration you live there.

That would cover me. But, as I never go near an immigration office how will they know?

On the other hand, immigration in Korat seem to be getting a bit more pro-active. There are stories of them visiting Western bars (such as they are) and they picked up an English guy on 11 year overstay a few weeks ago.

I am tempted to just wait and see, and if anything happens then one fine for 13 years doesn't seem bad, and I'll sort it out from there on.

Yup - naught more than another inconvenience. I'll do whatever they say. Relocating back to the States is a most undesired and expensive option. But, if they "kick me out" - well, back to "tax central".

I see the text of his Gofundme page has been amended. When it first came out it said he was in jail ... "through no fault of his own".

This status is probably very unusual for most but as I posted in post #27 (TM30) , I will continue my quest to be included in the house blue book

The requirements list, provided to me by the Tessa Bhan officer as handed to me, consisted of the following:

    1 Signed copies of my Passport pages indicating;

    a/ Valid visa or extension
b/ Passport picture and details page
c/ latest 90 day reporting page

2 Signed by both myself and my wife valid copies of our Thai Marriage certificates - both halves

3 Signed copies of my Thai Wife's ID card

4 Signed copy of house "owner's" ID card/as named/indicated in the blue house book

5 A stamped and signed letter from one's 90 day reporting Immigration office, confirming my address - Not a TM30

6 A certified copy of my passport from the UK Embassy, this had to be translated into Thai, both also to be sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bangkok to be stamped and signed - this can be received either by completing an application form, payment details and passport and posted to the UK embassy or by appointment , both are organised/booked using either an online application for an appointment or downloading the forms and online payment confirmation/postage documents

    I used the posting route

I used Express Translations in Bangkok, who advised me of their procedures, took the Certified Passport document and their Thai translation document to the MFA and returned the documents and passport to me by post

7 A local "person of standing" from my home village had to attend and satisfy the officer I was a "good person" My wife suggested out local Moo representative who I had got to know at various times during my stay
She turned up at the office said hellow to me and we left her to the officer
She obviously said the right things!

I was advised to return in 10 days to be handed the house book which would have my name in it

However, when I retuned I was asked for a copy of my Birth Certificate translated into Thai

I utilised the same company and posted off my well aged birth certificate, a few days later it was returned with the requested Thai version duly stamped

I returned to the Tessa Bhan office where the officer checked the names and told me that she was now happy and had all she needed

I now await a call to return to collect the revised blue book

you have been living in Thailand far too long, nobody here cares where you live as an immigrant, and all the Thais living here in France do not report to the police, that would be a violation of their human right. Like someone said, only in Germany in 1933 such things will be tolerated. The whole Thai immigration non-sense is unacceptable, and not humanly decent. But again, Thailand is a third world dictatorship, and asian facism is the standard in SE Asia.

you guys have been manipulated like poor submissive locals to accept such craps from the authorities. It's clear they don't want you here. Why would you want to stay?

Thais don't need to report their address in the UK either but several nationalities do.

    Afghanistan Cuba Libya Syria
    Algeria Egypt Moldova Tajikistan
    Argentina Georgia Morocco Tunisia
    Armenia Iran North Korea Turkey
    Azerbaijan Iraq Oman Turkmenistan
    Bahrain Israel Palestine UAE
    Belarus Jordan Peru Ukraine
    Bolivia Kazakhstan Qatar Uzbekistan
    Brazil Kuwait Russia Yemen
    China Kyrgyzstan Saudi Arabia
    Columbia Lebanon Sudan

But so what? Different countries have different rules.

If I lived and enjoyed life in any country reckon I would feel same about their laws.

While I have no doubt that is probably the case today, when I first went to live in France (long after 1933- the year you quoted) I , and all non-French that I was aware of, needed a Carte de Sejour and it was required that I keep it on me at all times and report any change of address to the local police station.

that's true for everyone, not immigrants. In France, you need your ID all the time. Yet, you don't get to court or thrown in jail if you don't.

in your case maybe, you are retired and not doing much, so I get your point, and it's harmless
