500 Baht wanted to put stamps in new passport.

Went to Buriram IO today. I renewed my passport and needed the stamps to be transferred over. The officer said 500 Baht no receipt. I told him no as it is a free service. So he kicks off after I told him it was free 10 year ago. He asks me which office i used. I said Korat. As that was the only office in them days. The twat turned to the next guy who asked me how I know it to be free. I said the internet. He then said if I won't pay then I'd have to wait. I said I'd wait. 3 customers later I'm in.

When I renewed my Extension back in October '18 the officer could only give until July '19 cuz of my passport finish date. I accepted that As I understood the procedure from years before

Going back 10 years a similar event occurred and when I renewed my Extension they only gave it for the remaining days left on my old passport. On going to get the stamps transferred into new passport they put in the remaining months left of my Extension without asking free of charge. This is the correct procedure, is it not?

Today the wanker would not give me the remaining days left on my 12 month Extension. He just gave me until the expiry date of my old passport and told me to then go back and get a 60 day Extension so's I could season my monies to get a 12 month Extension after that.

I know what the correct procedure is but this fcuking wanker is sitting tight.

There's the crux of it. Be blatantly defiant (while keeping a calm voice and maintaining civility), tell him that asking for money and no receipt is corruption. Demand to speak to the boss.

The boss was sitting directly behind him. I will go on 24 July and show him my old passport where it shows that he is wrong.

So your Extension finishes in July?

But you didn't get a 12 month extension. You only got one from October to July?

In which case the IO is correct to transfer your current Extension, as opposed to giving you a new one that lasts until October.

Just because you could have gotten one until October, had your passport not been expiring before then, doesn't mean that when the extension is transferred to a new PP that the IO gives a new EoTS date.

From what you wrote the extension was transferred correctly.

Not the remaining days on your old passport. The remaining days on your extension (same date).

The extension is transferred. Not adjusted.

Those were probably the exact words the two immigration officials used in Thai whilst fucking you over.

But I won't pay that either as I've found in my old passport where they carried over the remaining days of my Extension from 10 years ago.

Indeed. All they do with new passport is move existing stamps from old to new.
Tho 500 baht charge is bogus.

    Indeed it is.
Prag might benefit from going to another IO.

As it's been proven over and again, there are no policy standards from one officialdom locale to another - find one that suites one's needs.

Just had a look on the other channel.
Seems paying 500 is the norm in many imm offices countrywide

I needed to show a letter from the Embassy when transferring my "retirement" stamps little more than a year ago. Some Immigrations charge a fee for the service – I paid 500 baht, which is Okay, read that others also have been charged 500 baht, whilst some claims that the service was free – but it may well be different in other Immigrations, some offices seem to make their own rules. I gave them my new passport and old passport in the morning, and could pick them up in the afternoon

The Uk and Oz would charge a lot more than 500 baht for the administration, that the ops spent the day stressing over.

    of course it is.

the question the OP needs to ask himself is: is this BS over 500 baht the hill he wants to die on?

if he fights this and takes it up the chain with claims of corruption, he's going to become very well known in that immigration office. imagine the headaches they could cause him every 90 days or year for the rest of his time in thailand: "sorry, the photo isn't recent enough, come back tomorrow with new photos"....."sorry, your photocopies aren't clear enough. do them again"....."sorry, the paperwork is out of order, take a new number and wait in back of the queue".

i've never had this sort of problem with an IO, but i've heard plenty of stories, and more often than not, it seems clear that it would have gone better if the foreigner just paid the small amount at the beginning. yeah, it sucks, but it's sometimes part of life here and in other countries.

IME and IMO the only good trip to immigration is a short trip....and AFAIC, that's my priority....get in and get out as quickly as possible.

    choose your battles.

and you never know, the guy you give the tea money to now, could be the one who does you a solid at some point in the future.

The guy who went to the counter after me was getting his passport stamps transferred as well as getting a 30 day extension. His stamps were transferred no charge. Just 1900 Baht for the 30 day.

What is it with farangs. Why do they leave their balls outside of the IO door?

One has to attend the office of where one lives. There's no choice in it.

I don't agree that MANY IO charge 500 Baht for the service of stamp transfer. Even my missus was up in arms over it and she's the placid type. " Pay 500 Baht for what?" was what she said when I got asked for it. She was prepared to pay a 100 Baht but not a 500 Baht tip. A service which is free and IO are charging a fixed price? They're havin a laaarrrfff.
