That is where me, you, and others differ. I don't believe in feeding corruption and in making a stand I hope it deters these IO from taking advantage of vulnerable farangs.
Anyways I didn't pay the 500 Baht as I've said and my wife asked on the Immigration helpline today if it was enforceable and legal. They said no. But being as I didn't pay there was no reason for me to make a complaint as it's ones word against another.
As for the stamps being transferred it is correct that they can only transfer your Extension stamp for the remaining time left on your old passport. That was confirmed twice by the helpline. So all in all I lost 3 months off of this years Extension and saved 500 Baht. Maybe I caused a lot of anxiety to myself in taking a stand but I'd do it again. Someone has to test the water
.
Get the op done mate. What's money if you ain't got your health. Hope to see you again sometime.
I'm the same in that if I get good service then okay service is rewarded. But the lines have to be drawn. I didn't get good service in Buriram and I/we kicked up accordingly. Sorry but the sheeple here, who put up with it, make it harder for those that abide by the rules.
It's not worth it for a few hundred Baht, just pay it or any similar demand. If they ask for money for something like that ask "how much to get me out the door with this whole thing done."
I don't care if it's corrupt, if the amount is petty and it will avoid a confrontation and get you your extension, just pay it. Don't be a moral fanatic.
Thanks for your advice but I like to play by the book. Graft is illegal in Thailand, as you probably know, and the last thing I want to do is put myself in a position of committing a criminal offence. I have a wife and thee kids to consider Okay it's only 500 Baht but.............I'd probably have gave the guy a tip anyhow.
