Been there countless times going back 30 years...I really enjoy that trip.

Haven't done it since they tightened up on the agents a few years back though, so thanks a lot for the info...could be useful for future reference.

Could you explain how the 'Invitation letter from wife' needs to be worded? I haven't heard of that before.

^^That's basically what I did for 10 years and seemingly you can still do it and to me the best and easiest option hence I fail to understand all the moaning about the new financial requirements for a 1 year extension in country when can still do this with no hassle.

Jim is the man. And Penang is the place. (I'm not maried, but I do have a thai child, and less than 50 years old)

He helped me 2 times for 1 year multiple entries O visa : june 2017 and november 2018.

Although the list of documents was different :
-copie and original of bank book (with balance > 400 000 THB)
-signed copy of mother ID (2 sides)
-signed copy of blue book (house book)
-signed copy of birth certificate

That's all. The first time, I brought a "recommandation letter" signed by my thai partner. No need. And the second time i took the original of the birth certificate. No need.

No hassle, so easy.

So bless Jim and the Penang consulate.

Why would one do this when the Savannaket Consulate issues the same visa without a financial requirement and the use of an agent?

Because I live closer to Penang and I meet the financial requirement. If I pay an agent to do it then I get a whole free day in Penang to do whatever I like. Makes sense.

Penang has a lot more going for it as a destination as well... Savannaket is basically a shithole..
