    NON-O Marriage visa Penang

Currently in Penang and will be collecting my passport shortly from the visa agent. I was gonna go to KL to visit a friend and do it there but the website suggested that I would not get a 1 year NON-O visa as follows:

Non-immigrant visa (O) is valid for single entry into Thailand and must be used within 90 days from the date of its issuance. Upon arrival, at immigration checkpoint, holder of non-immigrant visa (O) will be granted initial permit to stay in Thailand up to 90 days. Once in Thailand, holder of non-immigrant visa (O) can apply for an extension of stay to 1 year from the Immigration Bureau. The extended stay permit is valid for multiple entries into Thailand.
So I came to Penang in the hope of a 1 year multiple entry, here's hoping.

The Banana Backpacker has closed down, so I went along to the also legendary Jim's Place where Jim had me all ticked off and ready for submission in about 5 minutes.

I gave them everything I had:
    Passport and copy
    2 passport photos
    marriage cert eng and thai
son's birth cert eng and thai
wife's housebook where she is registered
Son's housebook where he is registered
our actual housebook where we live
proof of wife's ownership of our house/land
    6 month bank statement
    up to date bank book
credit card statement showing my address (he didn't want it)
Invitation letter from wife - Thanks Toddaniels!

my name is Somcheetah the thai, my thai id number is 123, I am married to joe blow foreigner whose passport number is 234. please issue him a year-long, multi-entry Non-Immigrant Type O visa.
    Cost was 830 MYR = 6,450 THB

I stayed at Le Dream Boutique hotel, price was 1,800thb per night. Nice modern rooms, fast wifi, good breakfast and high tea, freeflow wine from 6-7pm on the rooftop bar where they play movies with free popcorn, cookies and ice-cream and there are a couple of jacuzzis too. Free soft drinks from the minibar and free drop off within 3kms. You get this same deal from Chulia Mansion which has the same owner.

I used to hate Penang, but it's really coming along. It's definitely growing on me.
    Lang may yer lum reek...

Been there countless times going back 30 years...I really enjoy that trip.

Haven't done it since they tightened up on the agents a few years back though, so thanks a lot for the info...could be useful for future reference.

Could you explain how the 'Invitation letter from wife' needs to be worded? I haven't heard of that before.

    Thanks a lot.

^^That's basically what I did for 10 years and seemingly you can still do it and to me the best and easiest option hence I fail to understand all the moaning about the new financial requirements for a 1 year extension in country when can still do this with no hassle.

I think that's where we stayed 3 years ago. If it's the same place, it had only just opened and was on Chulia St, maybe 100m down, on the right, about 100m short of Little India. If it's the same place (has a rooftop bar), we liked it very much for the price.
    Quite like Penang.

    Boom. 1 year multiple entry.

I just copied Toddaniels letter from VocalNeal’s thread. I’d never heard of this before but printed it off anyway just in case. I already quoted it in the OP.

"Jim fixes everything" is his slogan and he lives up to it.
Anyone needing a visa and not being sure if he can get it should email Jim, if he says he can then he can!

his email is blackangel90 at hotmail dot com

He might want to rethink using a Jimmy Saville based slogan IMO....

Jim is the man. And Penang is the place. (I'm not maried, but I do have a thai child, and less than 50 years old)

He helped me 2 times for 1 year multiple entries O visa : june 2017 and november 2018.

Although the list of documents was different :
-copie and original of bank book (with balance > 400 000 THB)
-signed copy of mother ID (2 sides)
-signed copy of blue book (house book)
    -signed copy of birth certificate

That's all. The first time, I brought a "recommandation letter" signed by my thai partner. No need. And the second time i took the original of the birth certificate. No need.

    No hassle, so easy.

So bless Jim and the Penang consulate.

Why would one do this when the Savannaket Consulate issues the same visa without a financial requirement and the use of an agent?

Because I live closer to Penang and I meet the financial requirement. If I pay an agent to do it then I get a whole free day in Penang to do whatever I like. Makes sense.

Penang has a lot more going for it as a destination as well... Savannaket is basically a shithole..

Funnily enough, after a lifetime of work and living in the south of England and now retired in rather salubrious surroundings from which I regularly embark on excursions both intra region and back to Europe, unencumbered by debt and spared the irritation of employment, I have yet to find myself forced to subsist in some ghastly suburban northern English sewer in a repellent corner of English dystopian grottiness populated by stumpy, swivel-eyed, tattooed, fat-bellied, jug-eared Anglo-Saxon lower class skin bags.

Where did it all go wrong, eh Bumbumboy?

And I never needed to drive a homosexual's poof waggon.

Go wrong? Subsisting? Think you must have me confused with simple Sybil. The jealousy of my car duly noted though.

    The perfect trolley-dolly taxi.

You should have gone for the ragtop and the black.

The thing is, for that price you have gotten yourself a real car like the 370Z GT around a year or so old and with 5k on the clock.

I think it's a good thing that he's so openly showing he swings both ways.

And why not. It's Crewe, after all.

    Can't be picky.
