Current status of doing a border walk

what is the current status of doing a border walk at a Cambodian border crossing ?

is it best to get a cambodian visa online ?

do you need to pay the cambodian side 100 baht ?

how many days will you get for thailand permission to stay on return ?

has anyone done it at Chong Chom / O'Smach ?

anything else I have forgotten ?

Will save a few hundred baht and some time dealing with them there.

They'll likely insist on Thai baht, by finding fault with your USD (too old, small rip, etc.) And it will be a set THB amount, a good bit higher than the current exchange rate. Plus queuing time, etc. Mush easier to get an E-Visa. Also saves a full page in yer passy.

No, but they may insist on it, using the infamous 24 hour rule. Technically there is a Cambodian immigration law stating that an alien cannot leave within 24 hours of arriving, but my Khmer reading level isn't up to scratch.

    Depends on your visa.

To book flights as the Cambo land borders are utter shitholes full of scammers and criminals. Not to mention those not working there.

can anyone advise how may days I can extend a 30day arrival permission to stay stamp at an immigration office for 1900 baht ?

I am pretty close to the Chong Chom office and am trying to decide what I want to do - if I can pay 1900 baht and get another month , I would rather do that than the hassle of the border walk

    Depends on the reason.

Staying with spouse - 60 days.
    Tourism should be 30 days.

Go and ask or call them. +66 44 559 127

I was hoping to hear from Toddzzz for the official rules or someone who had experience recently - especially at Chong Chom - though worst comes to the worst I can drive down and see them next week and ask

it is tourism - I arrived on the 1st and got a stamp at the airport for 30 days ,so need to do something on the 30th - I am just trying to decide what.

I was thinking that I would leave for Songkran ( fly out ) and come back after - maybe a month or so , but was looking for 30 days extension in case I stayed through Songkran

You can get a 30 day extension based on tourism then. It will kick in from the end of your PoS stamp, not the date that you get it. So it will be 30+30 days regardless of when you get it. Enjoy Surin Songkran. Should be sanook.

I do not enjoy it - a day in a village drinking beer and splashing some water around is ok , but as soon as you get away from that it does turn much darker with increasing drunken holiganism and stupidity

I have done all varieties of it over the years and am over it

Posters should be aware that immigration offices should be closed for Songkran, so the week before could be hectic. If able to do whatever before that, it's advisable.

Visa on arrival - 30 day extension at immigration for 1900 Baht. Far easier than going to Osmach.

no reason to get an evisa unless u want save a page in ur passport and spend $6 more.
I always use Chom border, south of surin, as its easy, fast an efficient
2 -3 hours from Siem Rep by car.
been in and out of camboida since 2002 , (I lived there 2008/09) ,many times with my car, ( last entry was at chom last July) always a joy to leave and return to Thailand

Do they use that day's conversion rates, if you haven't got USD? Covert it online in front of you there and then?

Or do they say 1,x00 baht? (Depending on your nationality.)

at land borders it can be 1,000-1,200 baht for Cambodian VOA
PLUS if u wish to just walk back to Thailand they will often charge you another 300 baht.

for most, there is no VOA for Thailand unless ur an Indian passport or such

At my local immigration, passport, maybe a photo. Copy of first page, current visa page, arrival card. 1900B They may ask to see your TM30 as well. The form is available at immi and pretty basic.

Yeah, so you have to go get USD unless you have it handy. Then they often refuse them on some whimsical basis, creased, too old, a small rip etc. So you'd have to pay the set price in Thai Baht, that's a lot higher than the real rate.

Or.... you could simply get an E-Visa online, and walk right through without any BS. Save a passy page, no queuing for a visa and dealing with the fookers. For $6 more (which will probably be the difference in what they charge you for the Thai Baht price anyway.

    Sounds like a no brainer.

Make sure you use the right website - the Govt website if doing the evisa online, i went on one, filled everything in then noticed the $99 they wanted to deduct.

All you need is a computer in front of you, then to upload a photo of yourself which I did with my phone and then take a pic of your passport photo page and upload that.

    Piece of piss

does anyone have experience with the chong chom immigration office ?

I will be going down close to it next week to visit some one , so I will rock up with the relevant photo copies and see what the deal is

I did it two years ago in CM at Promenada Mall, and the requirements were the same.

I had to get larger size photos taken than passport size, for which there was a handy shop outside.

Only had to wait about 30 minutes to pick it up.
