Thanks for that, Ive never forgiven them for the Trendy VFS system. Drove down to Bangkok 18 months ago with my daughter to renew her uk passport. Roughly a 14 hour round trip to spend 5 mins handing over the forms so they can post it for you.
Hardly a big deal. Nothing to concern yourself with until 2028.
By that time the UK economy will be booming and the UK government will be renewing our passports for free and the postman will be delivering them from a gold plated Rolls Royce.
Would have been nice for you to have given some ide what the article was about there david.
Synopsis: In the past, if you renewed your UK passport early (with up to nine months time still left on iton it), they would add that time to the new passport -i.e. the new one would be issued for 10 years and nine months. From now on, the new passport will not have the remaining time added, so the passports will be strictly 10 years only.
Meh. Storm in a teacup.
No big deal but quite smart for someone to calculate that the fragments will add up to quite a bit of extra income with zero effort. Always wondered how they earn their salary.
Surely that should have been clear for quite some time?
By saving money regardless of the potential for vastly increased stress and foul ups.
A penny nicked is a penny more to waste.
In Australia they only issue the Passports for 10 years but what pisses me off is that you can't go anywhere with less than 6 months left on your passport so it is effectively only issued for 9.5 years. I think every countries government motto is less for more in terms of service but more when it comes to rules.
