Just been to Chong Mek for a visa run.
Just in case any else goes there is nothing over the border now all the markets have been demolished and the duty-free hasn't anything worth buying.

Its the least of your worries chico. Get in get out. Job done
How were the lines, were there many people there doing the visa thing?
pretty empty, not many people around at all.
I usually get an O visa but they've been doing a 2-month holiday visa and pretty cheap, only admin charges and the consulate can't do the multiple entries now has to be sent off to London.
Chong Mek died as a market town when the Lao Government, for some reason stopped farangs crossing on the 20 Baht system, no visa required.
Place used to be full of day tourists [farangs] buying booze, cigs and other stuff, the Laos have stopped other crossing, Mekong Mun river and the Market near Buntharik.
Guess they thought farangs would pay for a visa no matter what, but they stopped coining, was there about 2 weeks ago.
Just thinking about you James, haven't seen you around in a while, miss your farming threads.
Haven't been the in a couple of years the place was abysmal.
Went to Pattaya noi for the seafood even that has gone really downhill now all frozen stuff.
