Big changes there since moi last looked at applying for Thai citizenship.

In the past, costs were in the 15 to 20 K USD region and you had to recite the Thai National Anthem. There was a simple written test too if memory serves.

Who told you that the cost was going to be 15 - 20K USD? A lawyer? As far as I am aware that has never been the cost.

Not a lawyer but basically word-of-mouth from posts on the subject - TVF in past years.
I never seriously investigated the project at the time because it appeared the cost/benefit ratio as it were was not in my favor.
Probably should have pursued it now thinking back...

The tax issue too was a concern as those who have been successful in obtaining Thai Citizenship were mostly Farang employed in positions here where their companies paid tax.

Posts 16 and 18 by me in this thread have most the information of the application and the cost up to that point. The costs don't include the donations to charities that should be done for a few years before the application.

It is not true you do not have to speak Thai, you are interviewed in Thai by a panel. Who would want to hate themselves that much to go through with it

Was informed at the start it could take up to 3 years. Fortunately I didn't have to wait that long. Only a year and a bit.
You get a confirmation by phone call and then wait for the Royal Gazette and shortly after you take the oath.

He does't mean "moi" , he means MoI, Ministry of Interior. God, stalkers are sad.

What is wrong with getting interviewed in Thai? A small price to pay when it means you never have to go to immigration again.

How long ago did you receive your Thai citizenship? The wait for the Royal Gazette take about 8 months these days. The wait for the MoI interview takes on average, 15 months.

Actually he does mean the French word "moi". Boon Mee uses it all the time.

ha ha, I see. Anyway, he's totally wrong regarding the amount. I assume he's thinking of Permanent Residency.

Do a job that you love, and you'll never work again.

Be at one with your innerself.

Good on ya for going through the lengthy process Chalky. Might give it a go myself in 10 years or so time.

Or may feel that moving to Vietnam would be a nicer way to see out me last few remaining decades.

    Cheers mate, wise words.

Actually, I haven't done anything since Jan 2018. Best just to forget about it.

I would like to go to Vietnam too, and also spend 6 months of the year outside Thailand. Having dual citizenship certainly won't make things any harder.

Knowing basic Thai helps. You'll get asked questions in Thai and you can reply in English. I was asked for a little life story about myself in Thai.

This seems extremely odd. Nobody I have ever heard of has got it in just over a year. Also, nobody gets a phone call after the MOI interview. Also, the Oath is before the publication in the Royal Gazette.
