You should fly thru without a problem. Savannakhet is still the "softest touch" thai consulate in S/E Asia for year long, multi-entry, Non-Immigrant Type-O visas based on marriage to a thai national. It should be 5000baht..

You might need BOTH marriage certificates; Kor Ror 2 and Kor Ror 3 (one is the 'suitable for framing' one with roses around the border and the other one is plain).

You're applying for that visa because you're married to a thai, not because you have kids. I'd imagine takin' your kids' birth certificates won't hurt (don't know that it'll help either). Just make sure they know you want the visa based on marriage!

There are recent reports that IF you're trying for a Non-O visa because you're raising kids, they're only giving a single entry 90 day Non-O's and telling people to extend it in country.

Good Luck, report back and let us know how it went..

If I'm not mistaken, you will need a certified letter from the teesaban at which you got married...Certifying that you are still married.

As I've been assured that it's all linked up, you might be able to get the cert at any tessaban.

You couldn't make this shite up!

No, I had a form for Vientiane but it's not the Savannakhet form..

Don't worry there're people standing outside that will sell you one and fill it out OR wait until you get in and grab one, it's pretty simple. Just make sure in the box which asks for number of entries you write MULTIPLE.

If they try to charge you 2000 baht they didn't see you wanted multiple re-entries, because it should be 5000 baht, so point it out to them.

Ummm, I dunno when you should go. I mean you can wait to the very last day of your last 90 day permission to stay before you go.

Oh, IF you're fixing to go next week remember they're closed the 30th and 31st of this month for a thai holiday. Also it'll jamb packed the following Monday once they re-open..

Meant to mention this before but forgot. Seeing that you have to wait till the next day to collect your passport here is an option for your overnight stay.
When you get to the border car park go to Savan Vegas office, you get a free minibus across the border to the hotel. When you enter the hotel don't check in but turn left and take 5 mins to become a member of the casino. Then check in and you get a decent room for B1000. The next day pick up your passport and go back to the hotel and you get a fre minibus across the border to the car park.
There is a free buffet breakfast included in the price.
if you don't want to spend all night in the casino there is a nice little bar opposite the entrance driveway with really friendly staff and customers.
There is also a decent pizza on the room service menu.

Well, I wouldn't go overboard with the "Good morning Sir/Madam" lap-dog bit, because those people definitely don't wanna be your friend.. Just a "Hello" will work..

Still you've got a while before your current Non-O expires, so BEFORE you go peruse the inter-web thai related forums about any changes to the interpretation of the rules...

Nothing is worse than getting there and not having what you need to get stuff done..

I had been told that farangs had to wait at the border, to enter Laos, making this shuttle minibus service null and void? Please clarify how it all works. In addition, if you have any insight or observations on the prostitution inside the casino/bar? a friend would like to know. She despises being around Thai/Laos hookers be they described in some other fashion or not. Kind regards.

    Pretty much like my t-shirt says;

    BTW: 'she who despises thai/lao hookers', by that I take it to mean she's okay with Cambodian, Russian or hookers of other nationalities, just not thai or lao ones, right?. That's pretty discriminatory. Which reminds me of my other t-shirt;

Anyway, just how does 'she' delineate between working girls and normal girls? I mean, can she do it by sight, does she hafta talk to them, does she just pull the answer out of her fanny, is she psychotic err I mean psychic? I'd like to know..

In situations like that I always remember the old adage, 'it takes one to know one'..

    just an update.

got it done a couple of days ago,

    documents? the usual

    passport
    wife id
    wedding cert. the 2 sheets
    blue book
    letter from wife,
    application form and 2 photos, + 5000

a copy of each signed and dated, for the them
and the originals for them to look at

crossing at mukdahan at 06:15 am, however no shuttle or taxi or.
    first bus is at 07.30-0800

as i can speak the lango i saw a pick up crossing so i asked for a lift over the river, costed 200b. no problem for me,

into laos, straight into a hotel near the embassy, was on the queue at 08.30 door opened at 09.00 handed the documents and asked for a multiple type o. told to pay the fee,5000b. they looked at the original docs for 5 secs, gave me the ticket for collection the next day at 14.00.
no questions asked at all. beware that there a list of countries that are not allowed to get that service, such as (sierra leon) and others,

savanakhet, not my cup of tea, no hooker stories from me or shopping spots( sorry)

thanks for the advice from the first posters, really appreciated,
    got the passport at 14.10,
into mukdaham at 15.00 only to be searched on the highway on the way to khon kaen, bags, car, and myself,
    ok with me . anyday.

    that was that,

sorry for the spelling and punctuation,
