Didnt think so. Would be big news if they did.

Ive had 2 Non-O's from KL and never provided copies of my Malaysia visa/stamps.

Had a few from KL and Penang too and one from Kota Baru but many years ago. Never had to show any copies there or anywhere else for that matter. Only read about it on here for Laos about 2 years ago from Tod.

Possibly what's happened is, someone's photocopied their Lao visa, stamp and photo page for ID purposes while they're without a PP for 24+hours while it's in the consulate. Someone reads or hears about it and the next thing is, it's mistaken for a requirement and posted on forums.

Unless Tod can tell us which embassies/consulates do actually require said p/copies.

you people are right, the copies of the lao visa were for a paranoid person in lao without his passport because it was at the consulate getting the thai visa.

Right now the two consulates I can confirm issue a year-long, multi-entry, Non-O visa based on marriage to a thai without financial proof are
    Thai Consulate Savannakhet Lao
Thai Consulate Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam

There was a post on the Expats In Isaan / Northeast Thailand f/b group about a guy turning in his paperwork for a year-long mutli-entry Non-O based on marriage saying that they changed their policy and now need to see 200K baht banked.

I called the consulate right after reading it and they said NOPE, it's business as usual NO proof of finances if you supply the marriage certificate original (and a signed copy) along with your thai wife's i/d & house book listing.

I also have had people on the Thai Visa Advice f/b group that I admin on (one that has NO affiliation with the T/V forum) post that they applied for the year-long, multi-entry Non-O based on marriage yesterday at Savannakhet and were NOT required to show financial proof of anything.

IF I was a betting man, I'd say the person who posted that information was confused about what's what..

BUT I'll report back if it is spurious news or the real deal as soon as I know something.

Because that's just the way Tod Daniels is. He's an asshole but he knows thingz

Dillinger you're correct, he got his wires crossed watching people who didn't have a bank account with 20K baht in it get denied and then misread the signage about it.

It sure created a shit storm on the T/V forum. 7 pages of one!

As I said, when I called the consulate and spoke to them minutes after I'd read his post on the Isaan f/b page they say nope, no funds needed.

    Anyway, glad it's still a go-to consulate

Requirements for Multiple Entry Non-O Thai Visa

Just checking to make sure my list is current. I've gone to the Thai embassy in Savannakhet almost a half dozen times and this is what I've given them for a multiple-entry Non-O Thai Visa based on Marriage:

    application form
    two pictures
    passport
    original marriage certificate
    one copy of marriage certificate
one copy of my passport page, dated and signed by me
one copy of wife's thai ID (front and back), dated and signed by wife
one copy of wife's blue book (tabian bann), dated and signed by wife
    5k baht

    Still good?

Note: I read a post below about wives' different names. I have never had a problem with my wife's maiden name on her Thai ID and tabian ban and her marriage name on the marriage certificate. Should I be concerned, now? Also, she always signs the documents, as required, using her maiden name.

The issue date and expiry date of her ID card are on the front. They only last for 8 years.

If its still in date and shes signing the copy i dont see a problem, although i have heard of some guys turning up with letters from their wives. Maybe they like you have their wife's id cards in their maiden name.

Thanks for reminding me about the letter from my wife, Dillinger. I always include that in the packet, as well.

The rule at the consulates is you need a passport valid for 6 months to buy a visa no matter what kind it is.

    I'd say renew your passport.
