    Advice needed

Its been a while since i had to do the old visa run across the boarder.....7 years to be exact....but anyway as i work overseas and reside in Thailand i usually dont bother with a visa as I am usually only back for a few weeks before I have to fly out back to work....anyway just had over a month off so had to do a quick run to Chong Mek as my 28 day "visa" was running out. Anyway the company i work for has given me a little extra time off and I will have to do another boarder crossing as I dont fly back to work for about a week after my last boarder crossing allows.....My question is ...is there a restricted number of boarder crossings you can do in a row? I really dont want to do a run to Chong Mek....although its only about an hour from me and not let get back in that could be rather embarrassing have to explain to my bosses that i need a flight from laos and not Thailand....Cheers

Cheers mate......first time in many years i have been back for longer than 28 days.....dont get me wrong enjoying it and the time with the wife and kids if i knew i would have gotten a visa in SA after contract finished there before heading off to Dubai and Turkey. Just a delay with the company over the Chrissy period

Willy. Step back from the keyboard and ask youself when was the last time you did a back to back visa run and then think it might be better to let some one who recently has done so answer the query.

If you torture data for enough time , you can get it to say what you want.

Which is why I said I heard and not I know. I am sure others will chime in, so one answer at 10pm is hardly gonna change much, particularly if things have changed recently.

The real rule concerning "border-bounces" or as thai รmmigrations calls them "out-ins" is; there is no official rule!

It is totally up to the discretion of the border you're happening to "bounce" out and in at as far as how many they'll let you do. Some places number the visa exempt entries and limit the number you can do at that border, some don't.

It's a carp shoot, err crap shoot ..

Since the end of August this year, all the immigrations offices are giving 30 day extensions of stay on either a 15 or 30 day visa exempt stamp. The price is 1900baht (except evidently at Jomtien, where they want 3000baht for it).. So you could go that route too..

Just so you know, in Bangkok they don't care if you have a ticket booked out in the next 30 days or not (but some places do)

    This is what you give them in Bangkok;
    signed copies of
    • picture page of your passport
    • page with the current 30 day visa exempt stamp
    • departure card (TM-6)
    • completed TM-7 (with passport sized photo)
The above, 1900baht and they extend your permission to stay for an additional 30 days!

Oh, and you don't lose any days by going before your current 30 day stamp expires, the additional 30 days are tacked on..

Remember; Immigrations (I think) is closed from the 27 of December until the 4th of January.

If you do go, let us know how it works up there.

Yes, Jim - well sign-posted and easy to find - but not necessarily easy to get there. Ask the people from Det Udom, Khammarat, or even down your way. I'm OK because I have my own car but it's not easy for people who rely on public transport or have to hire a taxi.

Why does Ubon have an immigration office 40 kms outside of Ubon city? They put an office in the city a few years ago but it didn't last long. I asked the staff at the immigration office why the city office closed down, and they said it was because it was "too busy"!!!! I suggested to them that this meant it was a positive development but I don't think they understood my statement.

Yes not easy to get to by bus, from some places. I'd have to walk 7 km. just to catch the first bus, but would anyone really live in these places without even a motorbike. Jim

hey guys, just ended up doing the "boarder bonce" no probs. couldnt find the immi office although wasnt looking to hard. figured i would hit one or the other first on the drive out there. 3 hours and back home 14 days to see me through till christmas was a little worried as dont fly out to work again till the 10th jan so asked the immigration boss at chong mek about number of boarder bonces can do. he said no probs gave me his card and said if any probs get them to call him. So all in all a successful day i think
