I took my own pictures and printed them out on the computer so they can't be that fussy.
I was careful to get the size exact as I had been warned about that.

I don't think you are allowed to smile. Hair must be clear of the face also.

Just follow the simple instructions. They don't want or need 'two sets by different photographers'.

It might be a 1000 page form but most of it is easy, and the pics bit is very clear

They won't reject them if they meet the requirements and if you are unsure then why not.

Had a mate have his photo rejected because he was not looking "straight" and they could only see one of his ears.

I found the new kiosks to be pretty good (the ones with the circles to position the eyes) to get a picture the correct size.

Just send the one load. They're not too fussy. I know someone who bullshitted the counter signatories details and signature. They will probably send your application back if you baffle them with 2 loads of photos and ask which photo do you pre.
Keep it simple

I've got a few spare ones from the last time I renewed my passport, These will be ok as they issued me with a passport using them

Certainly for applications in person, one does not need to have new photos for a UK passport renewal, unless one has changed one's appearance (eg shaven off all one's body hair)

I have a couple left over from my last application that was accepted if you want to use them?
If you go to a decent Kodak shop they have a book of what the requirement is for different countries, different visa etc, can't go wrong!

...oh boy is your advise wrong. The most current and up to date IS required. Do NOT fuck with UK border control, bad advise will get you on the next flight home. Remember they have the power.

The British embassy or consulate will give you the exact dimensions of what the photo must be and all the other regulations . They are very strict . From chin to top of head must be between an exact measurement , forgot the actual size , but a millimeter too big or small and it will get rejected . Background must be white and various other regulations .

The embassy won't give you any info, too busy pissing it up. However if you google renew UK passport and go to the correct website you'll find all the forms.

Try the consulate in Chiang Mai . They give you all the forms required and check the filled out forms for you before you send them off

Well, it's been 2 weeks now since they received my app., so fingers crossed.

no problem with mine, although they did say I looked a bit too hansum

Top tip: look for shops that have the embassy photo guidelines taped to walls!

sent my renewal form off to hong kong 2 weeks ago, used EMS, cost 400 baht, able to track it over the 4 days it took to get there

filled in the debit form to take the money from my natwest bank in u.k. and a copy of passport so no risk, if it didn't get there could do it all over again

the fee, 152 quid, taken out of my account a week ago so presume it has gone thru o.k. waiting for new passport to return in the next 2 weeks

pics were easy, just follow the guide on the site, whole thing was much easier than i thought, cheers

Although, they take the money from your account on application , they dont take the money when the application is successful .
You could mail the HK Embassy and ask them how the application is going .
I worked out that if my Passport application was rejected , it would have cost me over 25 000 baht in overstay fines and further passport application costs.
Thankfully, it all went through OK and took about three weeks from application to receiving it back in my hand

Money is bagged when app is accepted.
