Do Africans need to apply for visa only from their citizenship country?

    Hi everybody!
Im planning to travel to Thailand again, but this time with my African (Rwandan) spouse. I have received an information that most Africans might need to go to their residence/citizenship country to apply for thai visa. It might be true, but I am not quite sure so im trying to see if anyone knows this. It might make quite a financial loss for us as generally we would spend our time mostly in Europe and Asia.

We were planning to go from China as I want to go there for a business trip first. And later on from other SE Asian countries (visa runs) and Sweden.

Is there a Thai Embassy or Consulate there? I think Kenya Embassy is the closest? Quite strict to the bloke there (Last year)

In Africa the closest is Kenya, thats right. My problem here is, that we plan to travel between Europe and Thailand and stay for longer periods in Thailand, and to go to Africa only for visa run is really expensive.....

I would count this as a major drawback to having an African spouse !! I suppose that you could marry your spouse thus giving them a passport of your Country and alleviating all of your spouses Visa problems of travelling with a Passport from an African Country ..

    Just a thought !!

As you mentioned, this won't be possible anyway due to there not being a Thai embassy in Rwanda (Kenya being the nearest one), so it stands to reason that you should be able to do it at any Thai Embassy if there isn't one in the country of citizenship.

Spouse mean married, and you do not gain another passport through marriage.

Well, of course we have been thinking about getting the nationality but Sweden (my country) demands actual domicile which would make us to put all business plans on hold which isnt a good option right now.
Its a good thought, this one with Rwanda not having a Thai consulate. So that would give me right to apply in any other thai embassy?

It would help your case I'd have thought, especially if you're not applying in one of the really close "visa run" consulates such as Penang or Vientiane.

Well, a nearby embassy thats cheap to reach by Air Asia or Tiger Air would be the best as we plan to spend longer periods in Thailand.
I also have done some digging at immigration sites of Thailand, and found quite alarming info that "nationals of some countries are required to apply for visa at their home/residence country or at a DESIGNED embassy". The designed embassy doesnt sound good at all...

Why don't you holiday in Rwanda ?
Why don't you build a home in your wifes village and stay there. ?
In Rwanda the climate is better than anything Thailand can offer.
