    Renewing Passport in Thailand

I just renewed my passport at the Canadian embassy in Bangkok and will pick it up next week. I'm presently here on a tourist visa and want to know what I have to do about transferring the visa from the old one to the new one, prior to a visa run. Is it necessary? Where can I do it? Can I do it at Don Muang Airport? Laos border? If you know, directions to where I have to go would be great as well.

    Thanks

You can just leave it in your old passport. Take both passports on your border run obviously.

You can do it at the boarder, the air port or Immigration. as I did the same 1 week ago with my visa extension.

That's what I was thinking, but have heard conflicting reports so I want to be sure. Have you done it that way before?

To be honest, Pickle, No I have never done this before. I actually went and got my Non B visa transfered to a different passport at Immigration about 8 years ago. I have been told by trusted people that doing it at the border is not a problem though. Go to immigration if you are worried about it though, mate.

yes, the visa is valid for the time it states, even if in the old passport

as said, you just have to carry both passports until you get a new visa

you can transfer the visa to the new passport but that is just a waste of time and money, unless carrying both passports is too much for you!
    I have reported your post

When you pick up your new passport your Canadian embassy should issue you with an official document stating what visas you had in your old passport.

    You have 2 options :
1 : To go the 100% legal route you should take your new passport along with the document to Thai immigration to get your tourist visa transfered into your new passport.
2 : Do bugger all and just show both passports when next leaving the country (which is what I did when this happened to me).

You can go to immigration office to do it. Be aware...there is no fee for this service.

^ a friend paid 500b to have info transferred from old-new (retirement) at the Phuket office. Asked him as my new pp arrives tomorrow and wasn't sure what process is, each office seems to differ, will wait till I have to pay a visit late Jan..

    An update.

I went to the border at Nong Khai and was sent back to the immigration office a couple km's back down the road. Had it changed over there at no cost. Even got offered a soy milk and was chatted up by the ladies working there, one of which was quite cute.
