New Condition Multiple Entry 1 year visa????

One of our Aussie golf mates is telling us that you can now get a 1 year Multiple Entry visa which enables you to stay in Thailand for the full 12 month period without having to depart the country or as with a Retirement Visa report every 90 days.???
If this is indeed true then it would make the Retirement Visa irrelevant.
He claims that the Tourist Police here in Udon has confirmed this with the Udon Immigration office and as it is a new condition nothing as of yet has been put on their site?
I dont want to argue with him on this but did advise him to check pre his 90 days in case he gets hit with 500 baht a day over stay.
Does anyone know of this supposed new Visa??

No point in calling it a "1 year multiple entry visa" then. I think BS.

the non "O" one year multiple entry visa requires you exit every 90 days

I can't see them changing that

If you overstay your 90 days on a multiple entry non immo then any remaining time on it is invalidated it is unusable.

The Visa is completely different to the amount of days you can stay.

The Visa allows you to enter the country, it's the 'Permission to Stay' that allows you to stay for x amount of days.

When you enter on a Non-Imm Visa you are given a 90 day Permission of Stay (the stamp you get when you enter).

Depending on different variable you can get an 'Extension of stay' at an immigration office (showing proof of funds for O visa, study docs for Ed visa etc.)

For the OP to be reality it would mean that upon entering the country you are given a 365 day Permission of Stay, or with a Non-Imm O multi-entry visa you can go to immigration and automatically be given a 365 day Extension of Stay.

Neither of which are, or will happen soon.

Expect a ASEAN shake up in 2015 though. That's going to be fun to observe.

He misunderstood it. The 1-year multiple-entry visa existed for ages -- it allows you to enter as many times as you like within a year, but you can only stay for 90 days at a time (then make a run for another 90 days).

The fact that your friend of a friend heard it from some unnamed Thai official who confirmed it with another unnamed Thai official does not prove much. I'd not believe it even if I heard it directly from a random Thai immigration official, unless it was clear in writing or I saw an actual 1-year entry stamp.
