    MaeSai/Tatchilek visa run from CM

You buy the minibus ticket at a travel agent, B650

You get picked up at around 7.30am from your residence

You sit in the bus for about four hours with one quick break

You get to the border, go through Thai immigration to get out

Go through Myanmar immigration; there they just want $10 or B500. They give you a card to go into Myanmar so you can go shopping for all sorts of crap in the market, although wines seem cheaper (and the labels look suspiciously new)

You return and pick up your passport, go to Thailand, fill out the arrival card, and get another 3 months

You get on the bus and head home

Not the most exciting day of your life
    I have reported your post

    What colour is the minibus?
Is the aircon set to minus 15 degrees?
Is there room to move your legs?
Is there a pervading stench of beer, feet, and stale farts?
Is it compulsary to have a hangover?
Is it compulsary to still be drunk or to get drunk?
Does the ten dollar note have to be pristine?

The 10$ note does have to be pristine. I was sent back by some new guy who said my note was dirty.

A la the Ranong runs back in the day..very messy indeed.

I implore you to regale the tale of the dodgy somtam eaten before one of the journeys, Withnall.

Anyone done the Mae Sai visa run recently?

We're going up there tomorrow (Saturday) for the first time for the 90 day thing.

Normally do Chiang Kong to Laos but fancied a change.

    Any advice or warnings appreciated.

It was open in October and, according to my mate, it's open now.

Actually, we found out this bit is optional. The woman before us said she'd love to go shopping but she didn't have time, as her bus was about to leave. So they stamped her passport there and then, gave it back to her and she headed straight back over the bridge into Thailand. We copied her.

If you're polite and smiley enough, and explain that you'll come back for shopping another time, the guards don't seem to mind.

The grog shop is the only thing worth stopping for.

Over the years I've bought a few bottles of wine, vodka, gin from that shop. I recall that one bottle of wine was "off" the rest could have been Algerian posing as something better, but tasted ok.
