From what I gather, its 1000bt for the Camb visa (they'll incessantly try and pull your pants down over that) and I've always paid 500bt to get back in the same day cos I'm not actually stopping over there...although contrtary to my trust in the good people at the border who assist you getting through...its all a load of bollocks..so 1000bt should be the done and dusted total...but I'm fucked if I'm going there again to be honest.

Not 500B for the visa... US$20 which is about say 700baht. They'll do their darndest to get 1000b instead of the 20bucks though. Get it online a few weeks or days before hand. Easy.

all other payments are from ill informed/naive morons to government criminals.

    Been that way for years.

    Aren't SEAsians so clever.

Well that was a waste of time

We got to the border, saw the massive queues of degenerate gamblers and decided we werent going to queue up for 3 hours each way, so sodded off home instead.

By the way, Chong Chom border does receive public transport right to the border gate; minibus from Surin 60 baht, stops halfway at Prasat, then continues all the way.
There's also an old rickety bus from Prasat too, took it once by mistake; has to be the slowest bus in Thailand, chickens bravely overtake on the way, and the bus makes way for them, but its only 30 baht if advent to old age is of no concern.

Informative post, Somtamslap. Conflicting points of view as to the "freight" needed to come back in. But, hey! Its all good mate! You're back in the Land of Smiles!

Its cold in the mornings here in Narrabeen.

    only 5 weeks to go!

Get an e-visa beforehand then go to Immigration yourself.

Or just ignore all the touts, get the visa on arrival yourself and pay $20 in US$ for the visa, then queue to get stamped in yourself.

Shouldn't be a problem on the way out.

I can add a few things to the conversation now from experience
You cannot reenter at poipet unless you have the cambodian entry and exit stamps. I was told youhave to have it to show you have been somewhere. Of course the thais are exempt from this. I tried it and was sent back to get a cambodian stamp.
Easist way to get a cambodian visa if going gambling, just tell the casino checkin place where you park and they will arrange someone to do it, still costs the 1000b and does avoid the hassel on the other side. My helper took my passport after I crossed the border and went back to the cambodian consulate to get it stamped and then had it entry stamped for me, worth the money for no hassel.
I know the correct fee is 20us and I think 25 for evisa.
Warning,it took 90 minutes to get thru thai immigration coming back at 1pm ) that was for foreign passports, thais went straight thru. Also check your date stamps if you are on reentry, he tried to give me 14 days but I told him he was wrong and pointed the reentry visa out and he changed it to the correct date.
ALWAYS CHECK THE DATES BEFORE YOU LEAVE.
And after all that, I still didn't win at the casino.

Why wouldn't they be? They are Thai, it is Thailand, they're not activating a visa.

    Aran Border hop.

Get stamp out of Thailand. Exit building and keep to left of the road. A tout will offer his 'quick turnaround' services. Ignore him. He will lead you to the office where you obtain the Cambodian visa all the while trying to persuade you to use his service.
Enter the office and hand over your passport, photo and 1,000 baht. You will have to wait 5-10 mins to receive your PP with Cambo visa. Cambo immigration card should be already filled-in by them. Sometimes they don't so bring a pen just in case.
Leave the visa office and head for the Cambodian Immigration office, about 200 yards along the road on your right-hand side. If your Cambo Imm. card wasn't filled-in, now will be a good time to fill it in as you stand in the queue waiting for your entry stamp.
When you get your stamp in, cross directly over to the other side of the road and get your Cambo stamp out.
Head back towards the Thai side and on your left will be the Thai Immigration for your stamp back in.

    Additional info.
I avoid using at this border around 12-1:30pm on weekdays (I've never done a run on a Sat or Sun) as quite often alot of mini-buses seem to arrive all at the same time from Siem Riep carrying mostly foreign tourists. In which case expect a long wait for your Cambo departure stamp and an even longer wait (anything upto 2 hours) for your Thai entry stamp.
While waiting for your Cambo visa, take a look at the back of the Thai Imm. building that will be across the road and to your right. If you see a long queue of Farangs extending from the back of the building then you may want to consider using the services of a tout for a quicker turnaround.

If you have no plans to use a tout then completely ignore them. Don't make eye contact with them and above all don't say a friggin' word, otherwise they'll stick to you like shit to a blanket. Ignore them and they'll leave you alone after about 5 -10 paces.
