As the Buddhist wedding ceremony is regarded in Thailand as the real one (rather than the "legal", registry office marriage), perhaps if on the very offchance you got questioned, you could say you are married. Assuming Laos is the same, that is. Just agree with her on a "time" and a "place" it happened.

That's the law,but I have never heard of anyone getting busted. I spent the night at the Hotel Gallery Ramayana when our electricity was out one night and I couln't believe the number of hookers that came down out of the elevator some with their male friends? None of the men were of European decent, mostly they were either Japanese or Chinese, but as always looks can be deceiving.
BTW. Their am breakfast was really good, included with the hotel fee.
Waffles, bacon, ham, pancakes, eggs cooked to order, toast and passable coffee.
I didn't eat until dinner, because I ate so much at breakfast.

I'm flying from Chiang Mai to Udon Thani the on to Laos. What is the best bet from Udon? Get the international bus from Udon direct into Laos or go to Nong Khai and take it from there? If I get the bus from Udon where do i get my entry visa? I'm making this a 10 day trip so any suggestions for a decent 3-4 night stay in Laos is appreciated. And where is some decent night life?
Question about the extendable 60 day visa. I'm planning to get the double entry (giving me 6 months right?), can you get a re-entry permit on this visa or does it become void if you leave the country on it?

They will only let you on the international bus if you already have a visa to enter Laos.

A double entry Thai visa will allow you 2 entries into Thailand.

Just before you are exit Udon airport there is a Taxi/bus kiosk thing on the right hand side near the exit doors.
200 baht to the border in a mini van (less than 1 hour)
Pay for your Loas visa in US Dollars at the border and save a few hundred baht.
Price depends on nationality (35 for a Brit).
    Black diamonds? I shit 'em.

Thanks for the tips. I'm Canadian, and am expecting $35 range. Other costs I should expect? And any helpful info on time in Laos? I'm going to try the golf courses. Hotel recommendations, places to meet some female entertainment, etc.

Here are a couple of links that may cover what you need.

    https://teakdoor.com/laos-forum/50538...nightlife.html

    https://teakdoor.com/laos-hotels-and-...esthouses.html (Laos - Vientiane Guesthouses)

On the women of the night subject. Head down to Bor Peng Yang (spelling?) bar on the main strip (everyone knows it) and head straight up to the 3rd floor. You will soon make eye contact and go from there.
You will also probally be asked if you fancy moving on to the disco or Samlor bar.
Saying yes will increase your chances.
Remmber to get rid of all your Kip before you leave the country because noone will exchange it (duty free on the way back is a good place to spend what you have left over).

    Not true.

It's the best bus to get as the others go to Nong Khai bus station which is another 50b tuk tuk ride to get to the border.

Once the international bus drops you off at the Thai exit, you can get back on and over the bridge. At the other side, you will take from 3 mins to 20 mins to get your Laos visa. If you do manage to get it super quickly, then you can get back on the bus with the Laos & Thais. If not, the bus will leave and you will need to get a taxi into Vientiene for between 200 & 250 baht depending on whether you are travelling alone or not.
