    Jack's Golf Tours - A brief review

There's a lot of space between the seats and the staff are friendly - too friendly in fact. The chubby woman who's the guide sees herself more as an entertainer and asks questions to the weary visa runners like a kindergarten teacher addressing her class - "Can anybodee tell me what is the full neme of the city of Bangkok?" though there are other classics such as "As you can see the light now come on insaye the bus so ip you wan you can dancing like a disco" and my personal favorite at the end of the 11 hour day as we are finally approaching Bangkok in the early evening, "Soon we will be arriving in Bangkok, is everybody happy? I can't hear you, Is everybody happy? Would you like to sing a song with me? Ok, let's sing to-geth-errr" - (cue rendition of Somewhere Over The Rainbow)

She also repeats everything she says in Thai's with an extra helping of 'Ka's' and 'Na kas' - who is this aimed at? How many Thai's will be doing a visa run for fucks sake?

It is all entertaining in an annoying 'I really just want to sleep/watch the end of the movie' sort of way, but you can't help chuckle inside (no one has the energy to do it on the outside) but just before we reach Asoke she hit's us with it.

"We would kindly appreciate if you can leave nice tip for the dri-verrr becos he took everybody back safe".

Now surely that's his job, to deliver us to and from the destination in one piece. And if a twice daily bus load of visa runners each paying 2,200 baht isn't enough to pay him a decent wage then perhaps I'm using the wrong service.

Granted everything is done for you and they look after you and there's meal, massage and movies thrown in - but what they don't seem to grasp is that for 2,200 - so there bloody well should be.

She's throwing in a bit of free "Thai's" language teaching for the farang's who need it, like the Gentleman Scamp's.

They tried to take me in a cramped minibus once. I got out, went home and got the car and drove there myself.

Jack is Korean and they do a lot of golf tours for their Korean clients...theoretically the visa thing is just a sideline

I played a great game of golf on Sunday at unico golf course. There was lovely breeze off the fairway as had been raining in the morning.

Thursday is a "sport" day when the prices are low. Hence it is really crowdwd. Fridays are better as no queues.

She speaks no Korean but the Koreans do speak Thai - hence the Thai language use.

An unpopular question I've always asked, but never had answered...

Would the Thais ever acknowledge this is nothing more than churning baht out of farangs? Why can't farangs just go to the nearest intnl airport or border crossing? I don't understand the whole "leave the country" demand.

Don't mean to divert your thread, Scamp, but I met an Italian guy, 56, the other day. The contractor that built my shed also built his house -- introduced us.

He's headed home to Italy next week (doesn't have the cash for a 1-year retirement visa)and is not very happy about it.

He spoke no English and very little Thai/Lao. He has a youngish lady (not wife) who he lives with and she didn't seem too distressed he was leaving. She selectively translated what he was saying, but everyone got his gist when he explained an empty plate was Thailand, and threw his wallet in it, then said, Get out!

This guy just sunk two million baht into HER house and didn't have the presence of mind to see he wasn't welcome despite his commitment.

Bye Bye to him and it puts the rest of us on notice. Especially me.

You are correct, now wait for the apologists to arrive on this thread.

Just done what I hope will be my last visa run for at least 120 days.

The 'compare' announced en route that the new PM had abolished the 3X tourist visa rule - it is now unlimited again as it was a couple of years ago.

Scampy: one would have thought that this was a significant change in govt policy...but there's nothing on any other forum so just wondering if you're sure you heard the compere correctly?..
