As a generalisation, a person studying a degree then a PGCE will have slightly more subject knowledge, and a person studying a BEd will have slightly more teaching experience (they do more teaching practise, spread over the four years) The big downer about taking a BEd is that if you don't want to be a teacher afterwards, say you want to be a pharmacist rather than a chemistry teacher, it is not looked upon as favourably by the pharmacy sector as a straight science degree.
