Thread: Why do one or two Thailand TEFL schools get so much negative press on the internet?

Smeg has his flaws (as we all do), but sticking his hand in your pocket while he tells what a helpful and good guy he is isn't one of them.

There are people who will complain about anything. Luckily, our actual students have very rarely complained about our course. We have had approximately 13,000 students worldwide in the last 10 years. Five percent of them have failed to complete the course. If you think about it, the internet should be flooded with complaints just from those 5 percent.

I deal with sane people fairly. All of TW was crap. there were two real complaints in the whole 100 page crapfest.

right now 90 percent of the crap on the internet is from Whitey and quotes from TW. Very few people actually complain about our course. Most are very happy with it and thats why we are brave enough to have our end of course feedback available ONLINE and UNEDITED.

I didn't go to TW much but I saw quite a few schools on the posting I knew from experience were spot on. I posted two schools myself. I like black listings. They're a counter force.

I have no dog in this fight, but will throw my two baht in anyway.

Bruce seems like a bit of a used car salesman (snake oil salesman might be a closer description actually) to some extend, and yes he and others have tried to make everyone believe a four-week wonder course makes a common dolt into a “teaching professional.” But, hey whatever, I say let the market decide. If people find value in Bruce’s product he will stay in business and prosper, it not, his business will fail. Just because I would find no value in it does not mean others won’t.

Appears most of the anti-Bruce crowd are just the usual bunch of loser-whiners whose main complaint is Bruce has made some money while they have not. I sure there are both satisfied customers and dissatisfied customers of these four-week wonder courses, but a few rants by the “usual suspects” is hardly evidence one should base a decision on.

I say let the market decide.

The market seems to be turning to L2s.

I think Bruce, with all his admiration for Holt, should turn his business around to a non-school teacher training program. If the school systems are damaging and boring children why be part of it by training teachers who will only damage and bore kids, instilling in them a fear of attending classes?

If people really cared about business ethics so much, they wouldn't be living here pumping their £'s $'s and B's into the Thai economy.

They'd be setting up a non-profit TEFL course that donates it's proceeds to the poor and only accepts customers who already have a MA in Education to ensure the high quality of it's graduates. Couldn't have 'teachers' with only 4 weeks of training working with students now, it just wouldn't be ethical.

Why don't retirees stay home and pump their money into their economies? Cause they can't afford it?

Of course this could all just be a bunch of bitter 'can't do anything else to stay in Thailand teflers' who can't stand their job, and thus their life being bitter at someone someway more successful than them.

Could be more too of course, but given that at least 2 of the 3 haters in this thread have mental issues, obsessive disorders and quite a lot of anger inside them is a bit of an indicator.

Exacto! And go figure a guy who owns businesses in other nations would pick this one as a base of operations, when he could live in much hipper places. And I wonder if a person in that situation has a rented town house, #17 in a row of 30, with barking dogs all night long and a Honda Dream in the driveway.
