Thread: Anyone had dealings with the Office of Higher Education Commission?

Currently dealing with these folks as part of getting my Thai teaching license here. School are helpful in the paperwork process, which is great. However, they apparently need a high school diploma. As a Brit, we get exam board certificates, which I assume will be fine...I hope. I am wondering if they need to be attested? I have quite a few and it would be a bit pricey, so only want to start the process if absolutely necessary. All my other degrees and certificates are good to go.

They are sure about most things, but the attestation for high school is something they will need to research I guess. None of this in Mongolia, which is making me think.

I've never heard of your high school being checked.

Its an international school. Hence I would not worry about your qualifications. They are legit just get it organized. It would seem the school should be more helpful and know about your situation. All UK teachers would have the same problems.

Should be. Relax until there's word back stating otherwise.

I'd imagine that you've got British colleagues/friends/acquaintances that went through the process and would remember if they had to get their high school board certificate re-proof-erizeded or not.

I was asked for my university degree, which had to be sealed in its original envelope, my other teaching credentials and proof of professional development. (The cpd part might just be renewal though).

Right.

So they're looking at courses attended and completed rather than weekly INSETT sessions.

Easy enough to prove.

After filling in reems of paperwork for OHEC, they seem to have give up on the process so now one just deals with the Teachers Council Directly. The form was non-sensical and hard to really understand due to the translation. The saga continues and it strikes me that nobody really has a clue what is going on. I'm expecting another change in what they want again.

Indeed, but things are far more challenging for my Filipino. Apparently Thailand is NOT accepting their high school diplomas in many cases. My headache is minor by comparison.

Thailand questioning the worth of another country's academic qualifications is a bit of a joke.

They need high school diplomas in addition to their degrees?

It would seem so, I was a little surprised that I had to dig out all my old GCSE certificates.
In the case of the Philippines, I am told it is because less time is spent in compulsory education in The Philippines than in Thailand.

Last heard they don't accept the PGCEi offered by UK universities but they do accept diplomas from the Philippines.

I think they've bought back their own exams as well which were awful to take due to the English used.

That's a bit extreme.

Is it a case of them not accepting all online degrees/certificates, as opposed to being picky about different ones?

I knew a few lads that did an online MA Tesol with.... maybe Sheffield Uni, Hallam Uni, something like that. 2 moved to China and worked in proper international schools with them.

Yeah, St Theresa's seem to be the one they do accept. Co-Worker just got his P-License with it. Got a few offers with the PGCEi and the recruiter I used said it was no problem at all for Romania and Panama. These were solid schools-British Overseas, but I want to be in Thailand for a bit. I guess if push comes to shove, then I can go elsewhere. Shame though...

I am less than keen to fuss around with St Theresa's when I can enroll with Moreland and get USA Certification, which would be of more use internationally.
