    Coming back to Thailand

I am 95% sure I will be leaving Mongolia in June, time to move on before I end up becoming bitter about the place.
As the title suggests, I'm thinking about moving back to Thailand but have a few questions regarding documents, as I am sure things have changed since I last worked and lived in the LOS.

Now, I get that degrees must be certified, that's easy enough.
But what about police checks from the UK? Would disclosure Scotland be the place to get one still? Does it also need to be certified by the Thai embassy in the UK?

Looking forward to get back in 2023.

    I cannot give reliaible advice.
I suggest you ask the agencies you will deal with , The Met, Police Scotland the PSNI or DBS ,Thai embassy etc
You are right to gey ducks in a row while in UK and expect larger fees for degree validation, apostilles etc

Welcome back for those without "history' of sausage smuggling it is a uniquely attractive place to retire for me, for making money , buyng a UK home or replenishing a Western level pension not so much?

Be careful the level of Engrish s so high with almost everyone 100% fluent you better get in quick or you may be reduced to teaching me remedial spelling.

I don't recall teachers needing background checks....though my info is well over 2 years old.

Without any experience surely being out of the UK for a long time negates the validity of any CRB check. Surely some reference from your existing employer, if they will provide one. Assuming an international school then just contact one and find out surely

You'll probably just have to do a Thai police check.

Had 3 interviews and they were successful in that I was offered a position. However, all bar one wanted me to break my current contract; I've never done this and don't plan on making a start such an attitude now. So as much as the current school sometimes gets to me, I will ride it out to June. Seems silly to burn a bridge at this stage.

From what I hear, the TCT are making getting a teaching license pretty damn hard, even if you have all the boxes ticked. Decided to take a sabbatical from June for 4-6 months as I am not sure such an opportunity will come up again. Heading to India, never been so pretty excited about that.

Wow. As the international edu market grows completion is more and more fierce and as a result schools and companies behaving less and less ethically. You’ll still need that reference from this current school for at least ten years… don’t burn it.

I mean in theory I have a year left, but so long as you see the academic year out the school are cool about it and give a good reference. I'll make some inquiries while I'm in India, but also looking forward to some down time.

I haven't worked in international schools in Thailand, but I have had experience getting my degree apostilled or certified before going abroad.
I found this link for you that may help you.

Get your document legalised: Overview - GOV.UK

For a police check.. In Ontario, we get our police checks at the police station or online at our city's police station.
You can probably get one where you lived in the UK. I am not sure how you would get a police check in Mongolia, but I always had a police check done in my home country/city. And that would suffice for the international school.

Have a great time in India.! The trip sounds really exciting as does going back to Thailand!

Badly, I got pneumonia. I really don't want to subject my body to that again, I think most employees would understand that...well I hope they would. Local friends and telling me they suspect something toxic was in the air this winter, more so than usual. A lot of people become very ill in the New Year.

I suspect it is the type of coal that has been used this year- the ger districts were smoggier than the last few years. I suspect budgets have been cut post lockdown, hence no discount on clean coal for citizens. People got desperate and burnt cheap unrefined coal and anything they could find. There has been a real spike in homelessness
The problem of elevated lead levels in children has also returned- here is an old 2017 article in English on an issue that is still very much a problem in 2023
Elevated blood lead levels detected among children

Sorry to hear that, and thanks for the pm.
I had gotten pneumonia as well when I was in China and that made me decide to leave. Asthma had kicked in very badly and I knew if I stayed I would have more health problems. I know you mentioned not staying for your last year on the contract, what you could probably do to leave on good terms is get a doctor's note. That is what I did, as I had one more year left on my two year contract. I got a doctor's note, saying that this environment wasn't good for my health and it was better to remove myself. That worked, still got a reference for the good year I put in when I was in Shanghai. I get what you mean about the pollution coming from coal plants. It is the coal plants that are killing people. I'll reply to your pm soon.
