I tell you what I do know.

I know that I want feck to do with TEFLrs, CELTAs, DELTAs and I'm guessing now TYLECs.

I know that the vast majority that wash up on Asia's shores with such 'qualifications' are the flotsam and jetsam of humanity and I want naught do with such grifters and scroungers.


But maybe you are one of the good ones...

I heard good things about that extension course. Did my CELTA in Bangkok back in 2006. Fun times living in BKK and befriending many folks from England. I decided to do the course after teaching ESL in SK for four years. Then went on later to teach ESL in China within International Schools.

I don't think I'd take that extension course though, as I am a trained Elementary teacher here in Canada.

There are thousands of "good ones" around the world. Just because somebody can wash up in Thailand with no qualifications and get a 30k a month job doesn't make it so for everybody. That's a sad indictment on Thailand- not the industry.

And regarding your comment about qualifications, the CELTA and TYLEC are level 5 qualifications on the UK's Regulated Qualifications Framework, certified by Cambridge and Trinity.

The DELTA is level 7, the same as an MA.

Haven't you got an MA?

Ofqual, the exams regulator of the UK government, has confirmed that Cambridge ESOL's Delta qualification for teachers is at the same level as a Master's degree or a professional diploma in the European Union.

How long does a Delta take?

Really? Well I posted a pretty honest and nice answer, but whateva ignore away.
Sounds like you have a stressful, but satisfying job. I absolutely loved travelling and teaching around the world. It was the best times of my life thus far with a lot of ups and downs along the way!
