Need some ESL job advice, banter ok as well

I am at the moment in bkk and pondering an esl job. Looking at thai, china, vietnam, etc.

I do have a MS degree in a Linguistics field. However, I do not have my degree notarized and this seems a little too much for me to do at the moment.
I do have my transcripts and original degree in hand. I do not have a TEFL.

Any advice on gaining some work? I have experience in Elementary and I am from USA. Although I try not to claim USA but just say I am from North America.

Lets make this world "great again"

...so you didn't really plan this out very well, by the sounds of it?
Why don't you google for TCT and read what they want, and then go and get it... otherwise, just avoid the bottom feeders who will give you jobs too easily, scan your passport, and not pay you, so you have no comeback.

A guy I know in Chiang Mai teaches online to Chinese students. Says it's $30 p/h from a company for small groups through skype.

    Which is 100k+ p/m for 5 hours a day 5 days a week.

Probably better than going out and dealing with fokwit Thais.

That is a good plan... I bet a few people are cottoning onto that... probably a good idea to specialise in some area that you can help people with as well as just American-English and make a little website in Chinese to sell yourself.

Find that a bit hard to believe, if it were possible, know teachers living in the west who would be doing it.
Some more details needed I think.

Know a guy who translates Japanese engineering manuals to English, travels twice a year to Europe to translate for sales conferences, doesn't make $30 US an hour.

I'm not sure what you need help for. How to apply for a job?

Look for job adverts, send emails, visit potential employers, etc.

Advice - look smart and "respectable", be polite. Usual stuff.

^^^ Said that he works for Palfish, which is up to 10 students at a time and pays $40 p/h, and another that has 2 students together for $30 p/h and is contracted to do 5-8pm Mon-Fri, and does 5-10 hours with Palfish.

Check it out bud, about 120k p/m which is probably okay-ish for Chiang Mai if you're single.

    Just googled that palfish.

    "Seminar class (17$ - 40$ per hour)"

    Guess that's what he's doing.

Well, I have looked at jobs in other countries and they pretty much all say the degree needs to be notarized and you need a TEFL. Which I do not have either accomplished. In order to get my degree notarized I need to get this done in USA which makes it a little difficult. I guess like one poster said above I need to see what is needed in Thailand. I am also sure there are probably ways around this here in Thai. I live in Sutthisan at the moment. If anyone knows of any decent leads around this area; please do not hesitate to buzz me.

Get a job first. You won't need to get your degree notarized until after that, then look to see if your embassy can do it (or similar) in Bangkok.

A TEFL might not be necessary either. It is not necessary to have one to get a work permit. Some employers like them, some don't care.

Have a look at Ajarn.com. They list numerous jobs in Thailand.
See if any interest you and apply. It's that easy

You don't sound like a native-English (or native-Americanese) speaker to me... are you from Bangalore, by any chance?
I'd go back and get properly trained as a teacher if you want to do this for a living.

Look into Myanmar- schools are looking for bods and there is no need for a notarized degree-heck, some schools are happy sans degree!

    Salaries

$1100-1500 for small Chinese owned private schools. Avoid.
$2000-$3500 for private schools and international school. For the highest pay you'll need to be state certified with experience.

If you are set on Thailand consider contacting some of the mid tier bilingual schools. Expect to have small class sizes, plenty of paper work and a few extra curricular commitments. You might make more than 50,000 baht if you're lucky.

Oh of course Japan. You will make the best money in Korea if you want to save any of it. If you want to chase girls and fuck then Japan is the place.
