Can a teacher obtain a TL with a PG dip in Ed?

I was recently asked by a farang if he could obtain a TL when he holds a standard bachelor degree from a western university plus a recently acquired Post graduate diploma in Education. Its from a university in the U.K thats recognized by the MOE in Bangkok.

Does anyone have an opinion on this?

    thanks

As it's always been, probably can get around this official licence nonsense by having the perspective employer [if legitimate] go through the loops of applying for a WP and associated.

With all due respect to the Thai MOE, there is no underlying official standard per their rhetorical bureaucracy -

I would guess it depends where you apply to work... the proper teaching jobs that pay a western salary are going to apply western standards.

I believe you get QTS after 1 year or 100 hours or something, and a PGCE fast-tracks you.

If he lives in or near Bangkok, tell him to pop into the TCT and ask. Then he'll have a definitive answer.

The PGCE is a professional qualification normally taught at a university or other higher education institution, with much of the course time spent on placements in local schools. A trainee teacher will have to meet the Standards for qualified teacher status and any course specific requirements to be awarded the PGCE. In England only, a trainee teacher also has to pass the professional skills tests before starting a course. The training provider will then recommend the trainee teacher for QTS to the relevant body:
or eligibility to teach to the:
After gaining QTS, the candidate becomes a newly qualified teacher (NQT) and embarks on an induction programme in their first post.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Postgr...e_in_Education

If they have done a PGCE, then one would imagine that they then got recommended for QTS, which means they could then take that QTS or NQT paperwork to the Thai MoE and get a Thai equivalent.

This link describes a "Provisional Teaching Licence"
    https://seetefl.com/tct-teaching-license/

Hold a Bachelor’s degree which benefits education, and it must be certified by either the Teachers’
Council of Thailand (TCT) or the Teacher Civil Service and Educational Personnel Commission (TEPC)
or the Civil Service Commission (CSC) or shown in the list at The World of ALMANAC (the
applicant may check your degree certification at www.ksp.or.th by selecting “professional license section
, foreign teacher’s qualification check” or at the website of TEPC or CSC).

Why have all my posts been removed, please ? I did nothing wrong and all the information I provided was correct and I was only being helpful. Another poster was abusive to me.

Another "red" from the stupid Nervena. My advice was correct and Nervena was too ignorant to offer any. He doesn't want to help anybody just wants the forum for himself.

Digby you seem to be terribly stressed.

I'd recommend a couple of tramadol, a quiet darkened room, and plenty of water. To drink that is. A good sleep will work wonders.

    Good luck.

No, just fed up that an ignorant guy like Neverna can work against people who offer genuine advice. This part of the forum is supposed to be of help to people seeking to work/teach in Thailand.

I am all for banter and mickey-taking but this is not the part of TeakDoor where that should happen. Neverna should just keep his mouth shut. He knows nothing but still feels the urge to contribute.

You are missing the point. Neverna hasn't a clue about teaching in Thailand and his comments were mischievous. I am annoyed because he stuck his beak in when he didn't know what he was talking about. The OP was not helped by Neverna's comments.

You may remember the posts which were deleted here. Neverna was proved to be a fool. The posts were deleted so as to prevent his embarrassment. I believe Neverna is a mod and one who abuses his power on the forum.

I taught in Pattaya for nine months. I worked at a private school on Sukhumwit, Mr Ken's language school on Pattaya Klang and in a school in Rayong. Most of my work was with kids in the day and administrative staff in the gas plants at night.

I taught mostly Thais and Koreans. I am an honours graduate and have a CELTA. Before working in Thailand I worked in the UK and then I taught mostly Polish and Portuguese students.

Digby's "advice" was to get a work permit.

I did not take the piss out of you on this part of the forum. It is meant to be a part where help is given and that is what I did. Neverna was just trying to be smart but made a fool of himself.

Teachers cannot work legally in Thailand without a work permit being processed. It seems that no two teachers have the same qualifications. I know that mine are genuine and owe nothing to Photoshop.

You still don't get it, do you ? I don't give a damn what the clown Neverna says about me. I do care about people who seek advice and who are thwarted by people like him.

But you're not PGCE qualified, correct?
    Not a "proper teacher'.

I started a PGCE course at the college in the UK where I was teaching English to Portuguese and Polish people. It was a waste of time for me as it dealt principally with lesson planning. So, I stopped. There was just no point as my CELTA obtained in the UK was adequate. I regard the PGCE as essential for somebody who has a degree in a specific subject and wishes to teach it. It was not relevant to me. My language skills have been developed over my lifetime.

My own degree is in Environmental Studies and Human Geography.
