An assessment of English-language ability throughout Southeast Asia has placed Thai workers dead last among its neighboring countries. Singaporean employees sat at the top of JobStreet.com's English Language Assessment, which assigned scores to more than 1.5 million people from Singapore, the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand.
Singaporeans scored an average 81 percent, Filipinos averaged 73 percent and Indonesians came in at 59 percent. Thailand? At the bottom with 55 percent.
The sample population consisted of employees at all levels, from entry-level positions to senior managers. Those with more experience earned higher scores.
Thai workers in the categories of News/Editorial, Marketing/Business Development and Secretarial/Executive & Personal Assistant earned the highest average scores,

Clueless and un-realistic assessment that rates Thais at 55% compared to Filipinos averaging at 73. Gutter bottom is the Thais rightful spot, but those 2 figures should be World's apart

Not surprised Thailand at the bottom but 55% seems way to high.

Having lived here for the past 17 years, I'm amazed that Filipinos scored that high. Perhaps Filipinos working abroad might score that high, but those who live here barely speak a coherent word. And, I don't live in a remote area; I live on Luzon, only 50 miles from Manila. Filipino surveys over the years show the English language capability here decreasing annually - one of the few Filipino surveys I don't question.

A wander down Suk would have put Thais top of the pops in the SEA English skills department.

Yet another case of Thais paying tea money to up their scores, I imagine. Whilst Bangkokians may have the basics of trading English to sell their wares, outside of the capital they pretty much done in past saying "yes, no, ok, cigarette".

Still, I'm British and we are probably the world's worst for learning the language of other countries - easier to invade them and make them speak ours!
