There is no solution to the economic problems in the country until they start deporting the 35-50 million illegal Mexican/Central Americans and the 10-25 million Chinese illegals. They have already bankrupted California. Allowing criminals to reap the benefits of what is intended to citizens is a smack in the face of tax payers.

It's not "you" as in "us" sabang, it's "they" meaning small and medium business and individuals who employ them.

Who is you? I'm only responsible for myself, and I would never hire an illegal immigrant. I don't even patronize shops owned by Asians anymore, there is a corner store run by a Korean lady across the street from my house, she is the most miserable [at][at][at][at] I've come across in my life, I wouldn't give her the sweat off my sack let alone my money.

The Korean lady may well be a biatch, but who's to say she's an illegal?

Reid has made some concessions to the Dream Act to appease some rethugs. From Latina Lista,……………

In response to the many "concerns" Republican lawmakers have posed that they say prevents them from supporting the DREAM Act, Sen. Harry Reid presented yesterday a new version of the DREAM Act with the changes Republicans have requested.

Among them are:

·10 years of temporary status vs. the previous 6 years
·Specifically barring DREAMers from access to health care subsidies etc.
·Age cap is 30 vs. the previous of 35
·Removal of the language that would have not punished states for providing in-state tuition

These petty "concerns" only underscore the insincerity GOP lawmakers have thrown up so far to stall any kind of vote on the DREAM Act. If these changes don't appease them, then the nation will know for sure that the GOP never had any intention of voting for the DREAM Act.

Senate soon?

Well even though the article says different (says there is maybe hope of it passing before the next congress), I think the Dream Act is dead in the water for the next couple of years.

The Senate has canceled a vote Thursday on its version of the DREAM Act. A Senate Democratic leadership aide tells Raw Story the chamber will instead schedule a vote later this month on the House version that passed Wednesday.

Pro-DREAM activists see this as a positive move, and a more expedient step toward enactment -- contradicting a CNN report that the bill was likely "dead" this year.

"Majority Leader Reid has given DREAM Act a chance to get across the finish line this year. This move allows us to remove the Republican process objections to moving DREAM now and gives supporters time to build on the momentum generated by last night's victory in the House," said Frank Sharry, executive director of America's Voice.

The Senate on Saturday blocked a bill that would create a path to citizenship for certain illegal immigrant students who came to the United States as children, completed two years of college or military service and met other requirements including passing a criminal background check. The vote, 55-41 in favor of the bill, effectively kills the measure for this year, and its fate beyond that is uncertain.

A wee bit hypocritical, and actually almost funny. Basically they're being forced to acknowledge the useful purpose a lot of undocumented aliens serve in our economy.
Amid a number of bills filed in Texas that address the issue of illegal immigration, one, proposed by Republican state Rep. Debbie Riddle, stands out.

As proposed, House Bill 1202 would create tough state punishments for those who "intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly" hire an unauthorized immigrant. Violators could face up to two years in jail and a fine of up to $10,000.

But it is an exception included in the bill that is drawing attention. Those who hire unauthorized immigrants would be in violation of the law -- unless they are hiring a maid, a lawn caretaker or another houseworker.

KS GOP State Rep. Compares Undocumented Immigrants To Pigs, Suggests Shooting Them From Helicopters

Today, during a Kansas state House Appropriations Committee hearing on state spending for controlling feral swine, GOP state Rep. Virgil Peck suggested that hunters could shoot undocumented immigrants like they do with pigs in order to control illegal immigration:

A legislator said Monday it might be a good idea to control illegal immigration the way the feral hog population has been controlled — with hunters shooting from helicopters.

State Rep. Virgil Peck, R-Tyro, said he was just joking, but that his comment did reflect frustration with the problem of illegal immigration. [...]

After one of the committee members talked about a program that uses hunters in helicopters to shoot wild swine, Peck suggested that may be a way to control illegal immigration.

The Lawrence Journal World reports that Peck refused to apologize for the remark. “I was just speaking like a southeast Kansas person,” he said. The Kansas blog Dome on the Range has the audio clip and direct quote of Peck’s remarks. “It looks like to me if shooting these immigrating feral hogs works maybe we have found a [solution] to our illegal immigration problem,” he said:

President Barack Obama held talks Tuesday with former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, among others, on US immigration reform, and urged a fresh push for legislation.

Obama made clear "the only way to fix what's broken about our immigration system is through legislative action in Congress," the White House said in a statement on the meeting, noting that reform "both strengthens security at our borders while restoring accountability to the broken immigration system."

The US leader meanwhile expressed "deep disappointment" at the stalling of the DREAM Act in the US Senate after passing in the House of Representatives in December.

Obama "pointed out that perpetuating a broken immigration system is not an option if America is to win the future," said the White House.

Former New York and Los Angeles police chief Bill Bratton, who attended the meeting along with a number of representatives of the business, law enforcement, faith communities as well as former and current elected leaders, said Obama had called on them to help push for movement on the issue.

He "asked the group to commit to moving forward to keep the debate about this issue alive, to keep it alive in the sense that it can get before Congress where an ultimate resolution of it will have to be obtained," Bratton said.

The meeting came amid worries about violence along the US border with Mexico and concerns over stubbornly high US unemployment.

The president is not going to "let this issue go away, he has no plans to let the last vote on the DREAM Act be the final words on immigration and his country, and that this is a critical part of the American story," added Los Angeles councilman Eric Garcetti who also attended the meeting.

Schwarzenegger, a Republican, and Bloomberg -- a Republican who left the party ahead of the 2008 presidential election -- was joined by Texas Mayor Julian Castro and Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey among others.

Obama had vowed during his 2008 run for the White House to pursue a comprehensive overhaul of US immigration, at a time when an estimated 12 million undocumented immigrants lived in the United States.

The effort -- which appealed to US Hispanics, now the largest US minority group -- fell apart in the US Congress, and the president blamed his Republican foes.

Leading Democratic senators recently urged Obama to use his presidential powers to focus immigration enforcement resources away from deporting some undocumented immigrants who came to the United States as children.

The lawmakers singled out those would qualify under the stalled DREAM Act that clears a path to legal permanent status for those who arrived when they were 15 or younger, have lived on US soil for at least five years, graduated from high school, have no criminal record, and have completed two years of college or service in the US armed forces.

Obama spoke about immigration reform today in El Paso, Texas. I enjoyed the story about Jose the young kid who picked vegetables in the fields as a child and later got his engineering degree and became an astronaut (that part is towards towards the end of the third video).










Think Obama is just pandering. I don’t believe there’s a chance in hell there will be any real work done on immigration reform while the Republicans control the house.

Deportations hit record number

The Obama administration deported nearly 400,000 people last year – a record – with the number driven up by those tossed out for traffic violations and drunken driving, according to a report on Friday.

The focus on ousting those with relatively minor offenses raises questions about whether the administration has lived up to its promise to focus on deporting the most dangerous offenders, the Associated Press says.

During the fiscal year that ended in Sept. 30, 393,000 people were deported, and half of those were considered criminals. Of the criminal deportations, 7 percent were based on traffic violations, 23 percent were drug violations and 14 percent were drunken driving violations, according to an analysis by the AP.

President Obama has said that his administration’s enforcement policy seeks to target the “worst of the worst” and not individuals who have come to the country to work, but the large number of people who were deported after having committed minor crimes challenges that idea, the report said.

Administration officials disputed the findings, saying that it is difficult to capture the increase in arrests of dangerous criminals because they are currently in jail in the U.S. and have not been deported, which means they are not reflected in current deportation statistics.

“The more serious offenders are still in prison,” Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano told the AP. “We’re not going to see them reflected in the numbers until we can begin to remove them.”

The increase in deportations comes against the background of stalled immigration reforms legislation in Congress and an effort by both parties to reach out to a burgeoning group of Latino voters, which make up a key constituency in several key swing states and are expected to have even more political clout in coming decades.

Obama has come under criticism from the left for increasing deportations and not acting more quickly on the immigration reform legislation, which was a significant part of his 2008 campaign.

While overall deportations are up, the Obama administration has not aggressively enforced several high profile immigration cases involving young people who were brought to this country illegally when they were young and are now attending college, a decision that is in line with the directive to law enforcement to focus on criminals, according to the AP.

Change in immigration case reviews signals a more humane approach to deportations

Today, senior White House officials delivered the news Latino community activist groups have been waiting for -- all 300,000 cases pending for removal from the country will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

What does that mean?

It means that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is going to review each case individually to see whether the person warrants removal based on DHS's criteria for high-level or low-level threats.

If someone is found to be a low-level threat, their case will be stayed and removed from the stack of caseloads waiting to be seen by immigration judges. Senior White House officials were quick to say that at any time the case could be revisited but for the time being a case identified as low-level would be filed away to make room and time to focus on high-level priority cases.

On top of that, senior management at DHS will be sending out a memo to their field agents to provide guidance and establish priorities for the agents on who to take into custody and who to leave alone.

Given past reaction to changes in immigration enforcement in the past, there will no doubt be vocal criticism by some agents. If the DHS is sincere in implementing this new policy they need to make sure all agents are on board, or at least publicly on board.

In the past, criticisms by federal agents have caused confusion and fear among most immigrant communities which lead to a breakdown of trust between the communities and DHS.

With such an important change in policy, something like that doesn't need to be repeated.

With this blanket review, most groups are assuming that this change explicitly means that DREAM Act students won't be deported. For all practical purposes, that should be the case since a student in good standing with high moral character (two requirements to qualify as a DREAM Act student) would meet the low-level criteria.

However, nowhere does it explicitly say DREAM Act students. Unfortunately, in the past what is assumed doesn't always mean certainty. DHS agents have a tendency to disregard anything that is not explicitly spelled out in guidelines. Hopefully, this is not one of those times.

While many in the Latino community are praising this move, hardened skepticism remains, especially in light of a federal judge's statements that immigration officials purposely mislead states and governments on the immigration enforcement program known as Secure Communities.

"There is ample evidence that ICE [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] and DHS [Department of Homeland Security] have gone out of their way to mislead the public about Secure Communities," U.S. District Judge Shira A. Scheindlin wrote in an opinion on the release of the documents. "In particular, these agencies have failed to acknowledge a shift in policy when it is patently obvious -- from public documents and statements -- that there has been one."

No one in the Latino community is stupid enough to not believe that this sudden change of heart is a way to win Latino votes. Most see today's action as a direct response to the mass rallies and protests against the Secure Communities program being held across the country this week, even at Obama's campaign headquarters.

No doubt this "enlightened" way to deal with our broken immigration system is a political move but above all, it's the right move.

However, it remains to be seen if it's enough of a move to garner votes in 2012 -- now that we officially know the truth about the Secure Communities program.

Voters Put Border Control Ahead of Amnesty by 2-1 Margin

Even as the Obama administration moves to slow the pace of deportation for illegal immigrants, voters continue to believe strongly that gaining control of the border is more important than legalizing the status of undocumented workers already living in the United States.
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of Likely U.S. Voters shows that 61% say gaining control of the border is most important when it comes to immigration reform, while 31% say it’s more important to legalize the status of the illegal immigrants who are already here. At the same time, 57% of voters agree that the goal of U.S. immigration policy should be to keep out national security threats, criminals and those who would come here to live off our welfare system. Beyond that, all immigrants would be welcome. Twenty-five percent (25%) disagree with this kind of immigration policy. Eighteen percent (18%) are undecided.
