The fact that she has no judicial experience bothers me. I know, Rehnquist and Warren were never judges either. As long as were going that route I suppose Ramsey Clarke would be a great choice if he wasn't close to 90!

^ Agree. I just hope the hearings are stringent and fair. Neither do I like the fact that the WH put out an infommercial on her and have barred the press from interviewing any of her family. Since they can't interview her directly, I expect the good hackers to dig up every piece of info on her views, especially her years with the Clinton admin.
I worry about who may be in the wings, tho. Kagan could be a pawn with obama just waiting for her to be knocked off so he can nominate a real far-left nutter.
Sidney Thomas, Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Good old WASP from Billings Montana.Quote:

Sure there are others but out of laziness wiki will do.Quote:

Judge Thomas authored the opinion in Nadarajah v. Gonzales, a 2006 civil rights case.
Judge Thomas is the 'en banc coordinator' for his highly divisive court, with parliamentarian type duties that can impact the outcome of any case. "I've never known one of his rulings to be challenged," the Ninth Circuit's Chief Judge has said. "I think it's a tribute to his evenhandedness that he's been on the job for many years, and nobody wants a different en banc coordinator."

Nadarajah v. Gonzales opinion. I like this one.:)
"Applying the law to the facts of this case, we conclude that a writ of habeas corpus must issue and Nadarajah must be released from custody. The length of the detention in this case has been unreasonable. Nadarajah has established that there is no significant likelihood of removal in the reasonably foreseeable future. The government has failed to respond with evidence sufficient to rebut that showing."

Is it beyond the realm of possibilities to actually nominate a supreme court justice regardless of political, gender, religious or racial considerations? Can't they just appoint someone who is demonstratably fair with solid reasoning skills and extensive judicial experience? I would like the court to be as it was intended - a separate, independent branch of government.
I agree, but appointments to the Supreme Court of the USA have been overtly political for a long time. It is indeed a shame.Quote:

Obviously the GOP wants the Obama admin to appoint an overtly 'Conservative' Justice. But they know they're whistling dixie. The last three chief justices of the SC have been appointed by Republican administrations. Unsurprisingly they were all noted Conservatives.
So the dog & pont show begins.
Bamboozler has nominated a person who has never been a judge to the highest court in the land.
Is she gay? Would fit the nold.
The hearings mean nothing. Soto dodge desoto was asked if the second amendment right to bear arms trumps state & local law. She said "yes"
Yesterday on the court she voted "No"
Jan 20 2009, prior to raising his hand they shoulod have given Barry 30 mins to state all the parts of the Constitution that does not conform to his notions of "fairness". The Constitution is an impediment to the plans of lib/progressives
Prior to him raising his hand & swearing to "uphold & defend" the Constitution which was one of the biggest lies since Nixon said 'I am not a crook".
According to Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan, laws banning books pose no First Amendment problems, because they might not be enforced.
George Orwell was like a quarter century premature...

What? She is not political? Totally disagree, and she will be way leftie and she will rule based on the case, not the Constitution, methinks. Very bad. You better follow the hearings -- besides barring US military recruiters from Harvard (a taxpayer funded uni), she has made several political comments over the years.
Erm, you're forgetting Sotomayor, there. :)
Ah! 2nd Amendment now back in all 50 States. Love SCOTUS.
No I ain't. :rolleyes:Quote:

Nuff said. Absolute trash. Prasied that other old dead Marxist KKK sheet wearing racist Robert Byrd to the high heavens.
If you are a dimwitocrat & you were a member of the KKK & as long as you belong to the lunatic fringe of the left wing you can be rehabilitated like going to Siberia in the old Soviet Union.
All is forgiven. As long as you commit to building the welfare state.
Dimwitocrats all need to go to the gulag. Hillary can be the chief warden. Trustee inmate.
I wonder if they have R.O.T.C. at Harvard?
She's gay alright as suspected.
Got a hair up her ass over "Don't ask, don't tell."
Gay's serving openly in the military? MADNESS.
Why? It works for Israel..Quote:

^ Ouch! Not only stuck her with the knife, but he turned it. Well-premised speech. Thanks for the clip, Booners.
Well, the Socialization of America continues unabated. This 'person' gets on the Supreme Court, she'll be ten times worse than Earl Warren ever thought to be...

TO bad there are not more people willing to speak what they believe... rather than roll over for fear of being seen as a racist or bigget.... This guy is neither... when did be become so ingrained with fear that we are afraid to speak out and say what we what we believe is right.....

Heh...check this out: "I know nothing! I don't even know my own opinions. In fact, I don't even know if the federal government can use the Commerce Clause to dictate what you eat for lunch. I… know… nothing!"
Gonna dictate what Americans can and cannot eat, eh? Perhaps it'll be Soylent Green at the rate this Sociaalist government is headed.:mid:
It's a done deal- it always was.
Elena Kagan has been confirmed by the Senate to become the newest Associate U.S. Supreme Court justice by a vote of 63-37. For the first time in history, three women will serve as Supreme Court justices at the same time.

Five Republicans - Maine Sens. Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe, South Carolina's Lindsey Graham, retiring Sen. Judd Gregg of New Hampshire, and Indiana's Richard Lugar - have broken with their party to back Kagan. They've argued that partisanship should play no role in debates over the Supreme Court and have called Obama's nominee qualified.
