    Wind Power

Hot air from Washington DC notwithstanding wind power has serious potential.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Wind energy could generate 20 percent of the electricity needed by households and businesses in the eastern half of the United States by 2024,

In conjunction with nukes and solar the possibilities exist to dramatically reduce fossil fuel usage and clean up the air.

    Will it happen?

I think yes, over the past decade wind farms are popping up all over the mid-west.

Hope you are right - regardless of where one stands on the issue of global warming, reducing our dependence on fossil fuel can only be a good thing, for the economy, the enviroment, for the future.

Wind farms are not economically viable in the US to compete with natural gas for electricity generation at it's current price point ... LNG would have to hit a price point of $8.00 US per 1000 cubic feet... It is current trading at $5.50... The electric grid in the US needs considerable upgrades to service wind farms in remote areas, not an inexpensive proposition...

T Bone Pickens has just scrapped his plans for a 687 turbine wind farm...

^ i think wind should just be part of the equation.
The government should squander some money on this to offset the higher electricity cost. Which would be a tangible benefit for everyone right away. This also might encourage more people to use electric cars. Which turn would make the associated industries develop more cost effective products.
