Prior to his election as mayor — and the recent, numerous sexual harassment accusations — former President Bill Clinton endorsed Filner, asking voters to join him “in supporting Bob Filner for mayor” in 2012.
According to a report from KPBS from Oct. 31, 2012, at a news conference announcing the endorsement, Filner said that he frequently spoke with the former president.
“We convinced him this race for mayor was of national importance,” Filner said, according to the local news report.
The campaign played the endorsement, which was relayed as a recorded telephone call, at the news conference."

Last night NBC News reported that that the "Obama Administration knew millions could not keep their health insurance" but still campaigned across the country promising Americans otherwise.
President Obama was able to postpone the implementation of Obamacare until after he secured re-election. But for Democrats up for re-election in 2014, their less than honest claim to their constituents will now be front and center next November.

New Hampshire state Rep. David Campbell (D) said in an interview published Sunday that he was the driver of a BMW that ran over a group of ducks that ”didn’t move” out of his way outside a hotel last week in Nashua, N.H.
The Nashua Telegraph newspaper reported that a witness said “as many as six” ducks were hit on Dec. 23 outside the Crowne Plaza Hotel.
“I hit some ducks,” Campbell told the newspaper. “Some people were feeding ducks on the driveway in front of the Crowne Plaza at 10 o’clock at night … and they didn’t move, and I hit some ducks.”
According to the Telegraph, a retired U.S. Marine from Florida named James Murphy was feeding the ducks when Campbell’s car approached.
“All of a sudden, this 5 Series BMW comes up, it’s going about 15 miles an hour, and then when he gets to the ducks, it’s not like it even slowed down,” Murphy said. “It just crushed all of the ducks."

State Representative Carlos Henriquez was sentenced to serve six months in Middlesex County House of Correction today after he was convicted of charges that he choked and punched an Arlington woman he was dating in July 2012.
A Cambridge District Court jury convicted Henriquez on two assault and battery charges, but acquitted Henriquez, a Dorchester Democrat, of a third assault and battery charge, one count of intimidation of a witness, and one count of larceny under $250.
The victim, Katherine Gonzalves, testified about the events that unfolded on July 8, 2012, and underwent a rigorous cross-examination by Henriquez’s defense attorney, Stephanie Soriano-Mills.
Following the verdict, Judge Michele Hogan expressed concern that Henriquez was not accepting responsibility for the actions the jury convicted him of. Speaking from the bench, she also told him that he should have ended his interactions with Gonzalves early that morning when she told him she was not interested in having intimate relations. [...]
Henriquez joins a roster of Democratic state lawmakers convicted of crimes in recent years. Former senator Anthony D. Galluccio of Cambridge was jailed in 2010 for violating the terms of his house arrest by drinking alcohol after he was involved in a hit-and-run accident; former senator J. James Marzilli Jr. of Arlington was convicted in 2011 of accosting a woman; former senator Dianne Wilkerson of Boston was sent to federal prison in 2011 for taking bribes; and former House speaker Salvatore F. Feds To Arrest Dem Speaker Of New York State Assembly, Sheldon Silver
Federal authorities are expected to arrest Sheldon Silver, the powerful speaker of the New York State Assembly, on corruption charges on Thursday, people with knowledge of the matter said, in a case that is likely to throw Albany into disarray.
The investigation that led to the expected charges against Mr. Silver, a Democrat from the Lower East Side of Manhattan who has served as speaker for more than two decades, began after Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo in March abruptly shut down an anticorruption commission he had created in 2013.
Details of the specific charges to be brought against Mr. Silver were unclear on Wednesday night, but one of the people with knowledge of the matter said they stemmed from payments that Mr. Silver received from a small law firm that specializes in seeking reductions of New York City real estate taxes. Mr. Silver failed to list the payments from the firm, Goldberg & Iryami, on his annual financial disclosure filings, as required."
