Indonesian women caned for selling food during Muslim festival of Ramadan



The two women were found guilty of selling food during the fasting hours of Ramadan, thereby violating Islamic sharia law.

Hundreds of people gathered to watch as Murni Amris, 27, received three lashes and Rukiah Abdullah, 22, received two at a mosque in the city of Jantho, southeast of the provincial capital, Banda Aceh, Indonesia.

“The two women were found selling rice in a stall at noon during Ramadan. The sharia forbids selling food during fasting hours at Ramadan,” said Marzuki Abdullah, Aceh’s sharia police head.

Ms Amris owned the food stall where Ms Abdullah was selling the rice.

Muslims are supposed to fast from dawn to dusk during the holy month of Ramadan, which took place during August and September this year, but there are exceptions in cases such as illness or pregnancy.

Aceh, on the northern tip of Sumatra island, is one of several areas of Muslim-majority Indonesia where Islamic sharia laws have been adopted.

The conservative province passed a law last year that imposes death by stoning on Muslim adulterers and a law under which homosexuality is punishable by long prison terms.

The central government traded peace (and a stop to the independence movement) against sharia law. Seem fair enough to me.

I do not know what Slogan Man said but from your post it seems you agree that the Indo govt capitulated, but it's more expedient to view it as a 'traded peace'.

Only, the liberal twostep doesn't take into account that each capitulation (or 'peace trade') leads to further one-way demands and more one-way concessions. Ask if he would care to comment on that, or stay with the 'peace trade'.

But it's much clearer now and I understand, much better to honourably 'trade' than to capitulate.

Dutch anti-Islamist MP Geert Wilders to go on trial

The Dutch anti-Islamist MP Geert Wilders is to go on trial in Amsterdam on charges of inciting racial hatred against Muslims.
If found guilty, Mr Wilders could face up to a year in jail or a fine of up to 7,600 euros ($10,000).
The controversial politician is set to become a shadow partner of the next coalition government.
He claims that he has said nothing offensive.
Mr Wilders will stand trial on five charges of inciting hatred and discrimination against Muslims, including calling Islam fascist and likening the Koran to Hitler's Mein Kampf.
Prosecutors say Mr Wilders committed the offences in his 17-minute film Fitna, which has sparked protests across the Muslim world.
He campaigns for a stop to Muslim immigration to the Netherlands, a ban on the construction of new mosques, and a tax on headscarves.
Mr. Wilders was refused entry to Britain last year, after being invited to show his film in the House of Lords.
Due to numerous death threats, he is always surrounded by bodyguards.
Mr Wilders says his mission to stop the islamisation of the Netherlands.
The judgement is expected on 4 November.

An interesting development about a politician who has his own personal aims to combat the creeping influence of Muslims/Islam in his home country. Is he inciting hatred by opposing their values and making public speeches to that effect?

He campaigns for a stop to Muslim immigration to the Netherlands, a ban on the construction of new mosques, and a tax on headscarves.

A tax on headscarves? He should have them prohibited, not taxed.

It seems dark forces are determined to send a mesage to other would-be truth tellers by punishing Geert Wilders for speaking out. They absolutely have to convict him of something to avoid lots of egg on lots of faces, but otoh there doesn't seem much to convict him on that he wouldn't tapdance through on appeal.

Not sure if you've been following events, but the Brit govt excluded him from entering on grounds that his presence would give them a headache. Naturally that had nothing to do with Lord Ahmed's inflammatory speech in which he threatened serious consequences. Nothing new there, just the Brit weasels at their most transparent, and just a coincidence that after excluding him they allowed in radical Muslim clerics.

Anyway, Pat Condel summed it up neatly after the trial opened earlier this year:



At 2.40-2.50 he says 'they' know Geert's views are popular enough to put an end to the multicultural lie and to give the Dutch people back their country. I agree with the first part, and there's evidence that many former snoozers are awakening, but strongly disagree that Holland or any of the other main Euro nations will ever get their country back. Best they can do is postpone the inevitable.


Note that the first Euro leader to come clean was Merkel, when she urged the German people to accept the inevitable Islamisation of Germany and other Euro countries.

Now that the cat's been let out, hopefully other leaders will be embarrassed into calling it a fair cop.

Otoh I half expect our apologists to claim that Merkel is lying, and continue with their spoof that the Islamization of Europe is coincidental and has nothing to do with the ultimate goal of Islam for global domination.
