Climate Change and cooking the books.

Being plastered all over the net a the moment of emails intercepted by well-known climate scientologist and the book cooking.
    -
The University of East Anglia's Hadley Climatic Research Centre appears to have suffered a security breach earlier today, when an unknown hacker apparently downloaded 1079 e-mails and 72 documents of various types and published them to an anonymous FTP server. These files appear to contain highly sensitive information that, if genuine, could prove extremely embarrassing to the authors of the e-mails involved. Those authors include some of the most celebrated names among proponents of the theory of anthropogenic global warming (AGW).
The FTP link first appeared on a blog called The Air Vent. The blog's owner, identified as "Jeff Id", downloaded the file, examined it, and posted a brief summary on his blog. Another commenter, identified as "Steven Mosher," passed the information on to Steven McIntyre's Climate Audit blog and to another blog, The Blackboard, run by a blogger identified as "Lucia." Most recently, blogger Anthony Watts, who runs a blog titled "Watts Up With That?" mentioned the FTP archive in his own blog.

Hadley CRU hacked with release of hundreds of docs and emails
    ................

A BBC Weather presenter who was discussed by scientists in the “climategate” emails says he was forwarded the material more than five weeks before it was made public on the internet.
Paul Hudson, a weather presenter and climate correspondent for the BBC, notes on his blog “I was forwarded the chain of e-mails on the 12th October,”.
Hudson says he saw the exact emails that were either hacked or leaked from the Climate Research Unit at East Anglia University placed on the internet last week.
“The e-mails released on the internet as a result of CRU being hacked into are identical to the ones I was forwarded and read at the time and so, as far as l can see, they are authentic.” Hudson notes.

Heh...chickens coming home to roost and all that!

Al Gore was confronted on Climategate at a book-signing this past weekend in Chicago. Of course, he didn’t respond to their questions.
Several activists from We Are Change Chicago pulled off the protest.

The activists later chased junk scientist Al Gore down the street after the event.

Here is a video. It's too bad this debate is a political debate moreso than a scientific one, today.

And for the record, I think global warming is happening, but I am a layman.

Here is a viewpoint on the politics of this issues.

squirm his way out of what, earl?

this entire episode from the OP is nothing but a manufactured 'scandal' that is based on misinformation and half-truths... and a coordinated media blitz by the usual suspects.......fox 'news', drudge, talk radio, and pajama clad bloggers.

but feel free to post the smoking gun for this scandal....btw, you'd be the first to do so. in case you haven't noticed, no one has produced one yet.

needless to say, i won't hold my breath.... you won't be posting a smoking gun.....because there is no smoking gun.

don't you ever get tired of being a rube?

    apparently not.

Well said. Interesting interview on the Beeb WS today.

When comments are read in context they seem reasonable.

Yes it does - and what it says is that any Republican producing a book is likely to have distortions, misinformation and outright lies in it.

    Back on topic:

“In his speech, Mr Gore told the conference: ‘These figures are fresh. Some of the models suggest to Dr [Wieslav] Maslowski that there is a 75 per cent chance that the entire north polar ice cap, during the summer months, could be completely ice-free within five to seven years.’

“However, the climatologist whose work Mr Gore was relying upon dropped the former Vice-President in the water with an icy blast.

“‘It’s unclear to me how this figure was arrived at,’ Dr Maslowski said. ‘I would never try to estimate likelihood at anything as exact as this.’

“Mr Gore’s office later admitted that the 75 per cent figure was one used by Dr Maslowksi as a “ballpark figure” several years ago in a conversation with Mr Gore.”

Ballpark figures, eh? So that's what these "usual suspects" aboard here are hanging their hats upon?

Heh...I'll continue to brepeat (sic) it until you Moonbats realize the global Warming Scam is a genuine, bonifide hoax!

Leaked e-mails from British climate scientists - in a scandal known as "Climate-gate" - suggest that that has been manipulated to exaggerate global warming. Doubt that, eh?

Those liberal, socialist commies at the National Review have now concluded that Gore was right:

It appears that far from just a “'ballpark figure' several years ago in a conversation with Mr. Gore,” that Maslowski has indeed made this ice-free Arctic prediction much more formally and in model studies. Gore's version of events appears to be accurate, while Maslowski appears to be the one who has the explaining to do.

The climate models used in the IPCC reports have made predictions of increases in global temperature of 2ºC to 6ºC over present levels by 2100. These predictions were based on two assumptions:

    1. The atmospheric CO2 level would go from 290ppm in about 1850 to at least 580ppm in 2100.
    2. The increase in CO2 would have both a direct greenhouse gas effect, and trigger a positive feedback effect. The result would be a small direct increase in temperature from the CO2 , but the increased temperature would also result in an increase in water evaporation. The water vapor is the major greenhouse gas in the atmosphere, and its increase would further increase temperature, resulting in a positive feedback until the process self-limited at a significantly higher level."

Can any prediction by any scientist over the last, say 100 years ,be shown to have taken place? They don't seem very good at predicting anything as far I can remember. We have supposed to be going to have free electricity from nuclear power;the 4 hr working week due to computers;all live to be 100 years old;control the weather ect ect.Where are they all??

They're not scientific predictions. This brings us back to the Scientific method, something which is understood badly, if at all, by many posters on threads like this. A scientific prediction is a statement of what will happen or what has a high probability of happening once certain conditions have been met. If X and Y then Z. Scientific predictions can then be verified or disproved by experiment. So yes, hundreds of thousand of scientific predictions have proved accurate over the last 100 years, hundreds of thousands have also been inaccurate, that's the nature of the beast. Most scientific discoveries are the result of scientific prediction.

The examples you give are not examples of scientific prediction, they're examples of wishful thinking and sociological prophecies of the type popular with certain segments of the entertainment industry.
