There was also the case of some muslims getting stopped by security for being massed in a baseball stadium (after 911) in the US (if I'm not mistaken) and being questioned by authorities. Now the same said stadium has had to make a seperate area for these guys to go pray. To me, if you need to go pray while a game is going on, then don't go to the fuckin game. Why does the stadium have to make SPECIAL concessions for a minority? ( I think this was part of or the condition of the lawsuit, but hell, I don't know).

The religious beliefs seem to bring the rights of minorities in a country that is not their own to the front of political correctness. I dont care what religion a person belongs to and they should be free to practice that religion. Here in the UK all religions are allowed and minorities are free to practice what they believe in. However I believe that in certain countries (Middle Eastern) if I were to state that I was a Christian and wanted to practice my belief I would be labelled as blasphemous and possibly ejected from the country - or even worse. In this case I would be in the minority, but my rights are not being upheld.

I believe there was a case not so long ago where an Afgan person converted to christianity. When this was found out he was going to be stoned to death unless he reverted.

We were not talking about "complaining", but about 'new' citizens being required to fly the flag, according to shiteater's rules (am I allowed to call the twat "shiteater", as he keeps calling me "turdtroller"?).

Stroller, This whole thread is supposed to be about minorites getting more benefits as in: job preference, more money (dole/welfare), housing, bank loans or whatever just because they are a minority. People have to change the way they practise their religion or celebrate their holidays because a minority says that it's insulting to their beliefs or their way of thinking.


As far as your flag flying rant, it's not that new citizens should be required to fly the flag of their new country, it's that they should not complain about the original people flying their flag in their country. I never said that patriotism is required, but when you do become a citizen of another country and are sworn in as such, that you give allegence to this new country and promise to defend it as any other original citizen would. Not 100% sure this is for all countries in the world, but I would think that this would cover most. In Thailand, just to get PR status, you are required to speak some level of Thai and be able to sing the Thai national anthem.

Thanks, that's a reasonable post.
This expresses pretty well one side of the argument, as well as an aspect I dislike about Thailand.

I agree that some of the positive discrimination policies in Germany and the UK, for example, have the effect of creating what is perceived as an unfair advantage to some minority groups, and some folks are deliberately exploiting this.

But I disagree when this sentiment is taken as an opportunity to reinforce the privileges and prejudices of majority groups, or when criteria which don't apply to 'native' citizens are put upon 'new arrivals'.

To be honest, I don't even know the German text. And there is no requirement for Germans nor those acquiring German citizenship to be able to recite it.

I try to look at and treat each person as an individual.

After living in SEA, I won't hesitate to say what I really feel about some groups of folks (in general) in public, in the U.S.
