No, the Republicans will not win a lot of seats. As I've stated, what is difference between the GOP and the Dems - especially after the last 9 years.
There is no partisan shift occuring: no reason for it, no new message, no movement or change in the ways of the new GOP that emerged under GWB.
Not if the teabaggers and Princess Jeebus McQuitsalot split the right wing vote..Quote:

^ Greened him for you. That is funny. Palin quit how many times???
True, mebbe, but I think more folks would prefer the GOP over the Dems at the mo. Mind, I saw Romney on Greta last night and thought he was being snaky -- dodged the Mass HC, which really has become a disaster, no? Many stinging remarks about BO. But, he would be good for bringing an about-change to the bladdy mess BO is creating.
Thanks Jet, good to see you still have your sense of humour :)Quote:

Now, on the face of it that doesn't seem to be such a big deal, it's just Texas after all but after I read up some more it becomes a huge deal. After California, Texas is the nation's largest buyer of school text books, and California isn't going to be spending money on new books anytime soon because it's broke. Since publishers can save a lot of money by using one text book for as many states as possible the books with Texas school board content may end up in a lot of other states too.
This is 2010!
China: Churning out post-grads in record numbers
GOP: Churning out a generation of creationists
Pretty depressing really.
Edit, here is a link to a recent interview with Don McLeroy who sits on the Texas State Board of Education that I meant to include earlier:

The once grand Republican party is in a mess. So lets make a Buck from it.
buckrakers who are exploiting the party’s anarchic confusion and divisions to cash in for their own private gain.
The entire Tea Party Convention is a profit-seeking affair charging $560 a ticket — plus the cost of a room at the Opryland Hotel. Among the convention’s eight listed sponsors is Tea Party Emporium, which gives as its contact address 444 Madison Avenue in New York, also home to the high-fashion brand Burberry. This emporium’s Web site offers a bejeweled tea bag at $89.99 for those furious at “a government hell bent on the largest redistribution of wealth in history.” This is almost as shameless as Glenn Beck, whose own tea party profiteering has included hawking gold coins merchandised by a sponsor of his radio show.
Last week a prominent right-wing blogger, Erick Erickson of RedState.com, finally figured out that the Tea Party Convention “smells scammy,” likening it to one of those Nigerian e-mails promising untold millions.
Sarah Palin has far more grandiose ambitions. She recently signed on as a speaker for the first Tea Party Convention, scheduled next month in Nashville — even though she had turned down a speaking invitation from the annual Conservative Political Action Conference, the traditional meet-and-greet for the right. The conservative conference doesn’t pay. The Tea Party Convention does. A blogger at Nashville Scene reported that Palin’s price for the event was $120,000.
[Of course Sarah quit her inconvenient job as Governor of Alaska in mid term to get to the cash- such commitment, such motivation to the Republican cause. Now she gets to promote her book, charge for speaking to partisan audiences (but of course ignore actual Conservative conferences that don't pay for her precious time ), and what a surprise, now she's at Fox. In good company, of course- Glen Beck has his book sales to promote too, even a childrens book.]
But hey, who can blame them- when the Chairman of the GOP is happily riding the Gravy train too.
A profligate spender, Steele had inaugurated his arrival as party chairman by devoting nearly $20,000 to redecorate his office because he found it “way too male” for his sensitive tastes. In the weeks just before “Game Change” emerged, Steele was in more hot water. Over the holidays, G.O.P. elders were shocked to learn that their front man had a side career as a motivational public speaker at up to $20,000 a gig. The party treasury, which contained $22.8 million upon Steele’s arrival at the end of January 2009, was down to $8.7 million by late November, with 2010 campaign expenditures rapidly arriving. “He needs to raise money for the party, not his wallet,” one Republican leader griped to Politico.
Then, just after New Year, Steele published an unexpected book of his own, “Right Now: A 12-Step Program for Defeating the Obama Agenda.” He hadn’t told his employers that the book was in the works, and, to add further insult, he attacks unnamed party leaders in its pages for forsaking conservative principles. Since it hit the stores, Steele has pursued a book tour for fun and personal profit, all the while daring his G.O.P. critics to bring it on. “If you don’t want me in the job, fire me,” he taunted them. “But until then, shut up. Get with the program, or get out of the way.”

Ask not what you can do for your country or your Party. Just take the money and run. :chitown:
Nice one guys. :mid:
Unabashedly feckless, the Republican Party aims to rise from the Congressional minority by brandishing a political agenda of just saying no. As in no to health care reform. (Their new senator-elect from Massachusetts, Scott Brown, ran outright on a promise to be the latest to shoot down health care.) No to global warming repairs; no to real reform of Wall Street; no, in fact, to any act of creative opposition.
.... Sooner or later constituents must wonder how far Republicans can take pure opposition as a political philosophy without offering believable program alternatives.

Fair question? In national elections, I doubt people just vote for 'No'. :mid:
^^ Right on, Mr Earl. The libbies must have an answer for this.
Tort reform is a very valid criticism, indeed.
Also the 'sweetheart' deals carved out, although now it seems to be back to the drawing board anyway.
Not true. Even Obama had Tort Reform on the table. Quit trying to re-write history...you only look foolish.Quote:

Anyway, here's what this is about, and tell me if it doesn't make sense. There's a lot of people putting out lies like they were facts. I'm not accusing you of spreading lies intentionally, but I am correcting a statement you declared as if it were a fact. It's a common and frequent tactic of those that would sway public opinion with things that aren't true, and the people who are doing this are really hurting my country.
If I'm in error, correct me. but to paraphrase somebody: "You're free to your own opinion, but not your own facts."
Deal with it.
How right you are, Jet. Tort reform is not in the bill. It shows how political the bill is. Democrats are in the trial lawyers' pockets. Politically, if tort reform doesn't have to be in the bill, it won't be, nevermind, what is good for the country. We all know Democrats (read this as Republicans) don't care about what is good for America.
^Someone whistle a patriotic tune while this man speaks!
If you're going to insult people while taking a righteous stance than expect to be skewered. Your passion or patriotism doesn't entitle you to insult people w/o receiving a response in kind. That's the "context" of my posts. That's "what this is about".
^ Should I whistle Dixie? :)
