I'll give Biden some credit for sticking to his promise. But I'm not sure I want him involved in any kind of budget decisions - doesn't one a single stock or bond?

Integrity – Biden’s forthrightness has prevailed over personal mistakes. In an October 26, 2007 interview with CNN’s Sareena Dalla, Biden said, “If elected…I promised I'd never own a stock or a bond. [And]…in my neighborhood, a promise made is a promise kept. I've kept it for thirty years so guess what…I don't own a single share of stock.

    Heh...big-time!

The daughter of Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr. (D-Del.) was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of obstructing a police officer outside a Chicago bar.

Ashley Blazer Biden, 21, of Wilmington, Del., was with a group of people on a North Side street where several bars are located when someone else threw a bottle at an officer, police said.
When police tried to arrest another person, Biden blocked the officer’s path and made intimidating statements, officer JoAnn Taylor said.

...the 17 year old minor daughter of the republican vice presidential candidate, who is pregnant, is fair game to attack? But the 21 year old daughter of Vice presidential candidate Joe Biden is off limits....even though she was interfering with police and was actually arrested?

Joe Biden and the blue team are sure quick to say they want to dip into the pockets of the rich, but they don't seem so willing to dip into their own pockets:
    http://www.usatoday.com/news/politic...inancial_N.htm

Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden and his wife gave an average of $369 a year to charity during the past decade, his tax records show.
Over the decade, the Bidens reported a total of $3,690 in charitable donations, or 0.2% of their income.
Takes some pretty big balls to give freely far less than the national average, and way, way less when compared to others in the same income bracket. And then say the government need to take more from the rich. Maybe if folks like Biden were not such big cheapskates there would be less need for the government to do more?
Nationally, more than two-thirds of U.S. households reported giving to charity in 2004, with average contributions of $2,047 that year, according to a study released in January by the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University. Those households who gave to charity averaged donations of about 3% of their income, says Patrick Rooney, the center's interim executive director....

....Another study of wealthy households in 2005 found average yearly donations of $40,746 from people with incomes from $200,000 per year to $500,000 per year, Rooney says. But like most statistics on giving, those numbers are skewed upwards by a small number of people who give large amounts to charity, says Rooney, formerly the center's research director.
The Obama's were better (once they got uber rich - over ten million income), but were under the national average (3%) back in 2000 when they were making less.
The Obamas gave more than $240,000 to charity last year, about 5.7% of their income, their tax return shows. Their charitable giving has risen with their income; in 2000, when the couple made $240,726, they gave $2,350 to charity, about 1% of their income.
McCain on the other hand gave more than 8 times the national average based upon percentages. Granted having an uber, uber, rich wife makes it easy to give. But that does not mean he had to give.
John McCain reported giving more than $202,000 — a quarter of his income — to charity in 2006 and 2007, the only years for which his campaign released his tax returns. His campaign didn't release information about his wife's charitable contributions, however. In 2006, her total itemized tax deductions, a category which includes charitable contributions and other deductible items such as mortgage interest, was $569,737, or 9.3% of her income.
Most of my charitable donations now days end up in Issan - and I give regularly.

Where in the world is Joe Biden, and who is listening to him now days?

Who Is Listening To Joe Biden? - From The Road

Lost of press coverage for Palin, and not much on Biden unless he screws up. Some big help he has been so far.

Since he broke away from appearances with Barack Obama a couple of weeks ago and began soloing on the campaign trail, it’s hard to say the country has paid a fair amount of attention to Joe Biden.

When he canceled two days of events in Texas and New Hampshire and spent the day at home because of Hurricane Ike, a majority of people didn’t notice.

I like Joe Biden actually- honest and forthright, if a little bit gaffe prone. I'm surprised we're not hearing a bit more from him.

Not sure if the Press has relegated him to the back pages because of all the Palin stuff, or whether the Dem's are actually encouraging this and waiting for all the hype to inevitably subside.

The libbie press doesn't want to cover him because he thinks he is still running for prez and thus making all the gaffes. "Stand up, Sir" he said to a wheelchair-bound ex-politician. Oh, sorry...OK, everyone stand up for this man. Duh.

Joe, McCain and Obama will make many gaffes to be sure. Funny how that happens when they give so many interviews and will answer any questions from the audience when campaigning. Ms Palin on the other hand should be gaffe free. No questions allowed so far. Just scripted speeches in friendly surroundings. Wonder why?

I don't agree with much of what Biden has to say, but I still like a person that tends to say what he means - even if this leads to gaffes.

I doubt the blue team is encouraging this (liitle coverage by the national press), as of late pretty much any news coverage is good news coverage for Biden. But I do think they are waiting for the Palin hype to subside - and there are signs that that is happening (not as much press coverage, and the polls have started to stabilize).

To me the key for the blue team is to not make noise about Palin. Anytime they bring up her name it only helps to maintain the Palin mania. The only red team member that should come out of their mouths is McCain (and maybe a bit of Bush in the mix - but not Palin).

Clinton seems to have been pretty good about this. She has been very tight lipped about Palin. Offer only basic comments about it is good to see women in politics and such, but nothing really positive or negative directly related to Palin. She knows how to keep on message.

This has helped, but even with Clinton bearly mentioning Palin, Palin still finds her way into the Clinton press:
Clinton in Ohio: 'Who Is for You?' - washingtonpost.com
-- and barely mentioning Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.
Clinton mentioned Palin just twice in speeches here and in Akron, in one instance repeating an earlier line: "No way, no how, no McCain and no Palin."
I find this next bit kind of funny, because while I would agree Clinton has followed this strategy, I don't think Obama got the memo.
Since the Republican convention, Clinton has pointedly avoided directly criticizing Palin as she campaigns for Obama (D-Ill.), a strategy endorsed by the Obama campaign. The goal, Obama campaign strategists said, is to refocus the race on Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and to avoid a clash between the two women.

What do people think about this? The death of his wife and child is tragic. But Biden created a story out of the tragedy. He tells people they were killed by a drunk driver. I guess one could say well Joe wants to warn people of the dangers of drinking and driving. The terrible thing is that he has accused the man who hit his wife's car of being drunk when there is no evidence of it being true. He has hurt other people another family with his story.

American Thinker Blog: Why does Joe Biden lie about a 'drunk driver' killing his 1st wife?

September 19, 2008 Why does Joe Biden lie about a 'drunk driver' killing his 1st wife?

    Thomas Lifson
It is terrible to lose family members to a traffic accident. But why on earth would a United States Senator fabricate an embellishment and claim that it was a drunk driver's fault, when the record clearly indicates it was not?

    Delaware Online reports:
Since his vice presidential nomination, Joe Biden's 2007 statement that a "guy who allegedly ... drank his lunch" and drove the truck that struck and killed his first wife and daughter has gained national media traction.

Alcohol didn't play a role in the 1972 crash, investigators found. But as recently as last week, the syndicated TV show Inside Edition aired a clip from 2001 of Biden describing the accident to an audience at the University of Delaware and saying the truck driver "stopped to drink instead of drive."

The senator's statements don't jibe with news and law enforcement reports from the time, which cleared driver Curtis C. Dunn, who died in 1999, of wrongdoing.

"To see it coming from [Biden's] mouth, I just burst into tears," Dunn's daughter, Glasgow resident Pamela Hamill, 44, said Wednesday. "My dad was always there for us. Now we feel like we should be there for him because he's not here to defend himself."
Biden has embellished his supposed "working class" origins in Scranton, PA, when in fact his father was successful sales professional for substantial companies, and he attended a very expensive private school.

American Thinker Blog: Why does Joe Biden lie about a 'drunk driver' killing his 1st wife?
Is this an attempt to exploit the death of his first wife for political gain? The thought is sickening. Even if Biden was inititially misinformed, he and his campaign have allowed a lie to propagate throughout the media. The news report above mentions:
"...since Barack Obama tapped Biden to be his running mate on Aug. 23, The New York Times, National Public Radio and The Economisthave run stories that characterized Dunn as a drunken driver."

Since we're talking about whoppers here's the entire article about Joe's story. It's a terrible story all around. Terrible that he lost his wife and child. Terrible that the other driver carried the thought with him for the rest of his life. Why would Biden lie like this? He's been caught at it before so he knows what the consequences are. What is wrong with this guy?

I couldn't publicly before audiences, so that it is reported worldwide, dump my pain on Mr Dunn by calling him a drunk driver. It's been 35 years since the accident. Biden is still using the story. Biden has a new wife and a new life. Does he bother to think how this makes his wife feel? I can't imagine reminding her of his previous marriage and it's tragic end.

Biden's not simply a politician who fudges the figures or doesn't fully disclose the story. He smeared another man's name and caused his family great pain as the lie Biden told was spread via The New York Times, National Public Radio and The Economist. Those news outlets aren't the National Enquirer, though the television show Inside Edition is close. This guy's family has to live with the shame created by Biden's lie about their father. How are they supposed to explain to the world that Biden's story isn't true?

1972 crash still haunts driver's family

No DUI in crash that killed Biden's 1st wife, but he's implied otherwise

Since his vice presidential nomination, Joe Biden's 2007 statement that a "guy who allegedly ... drank his lunch" and drove the truck that struck and killed his first wife and daughter has gained national media traction.

Alcohol didn't play a role in the 1972 crash, investigators found. But as recently as last week, the syndicated TV show Inside Edition aired a clip from 2001 of Biden describing the accident to an audienceat the University of Delaware and saying the truck driver "stopped to drink instead of drive."

Biden spokesman David Wade said Wednesday that the senator "fully accepts the Dunn family's word that these rumors were false."

It's unclear who first suggested alcohol was a factor in the crash, but since Barack Obama tapped Biden to be his running mate on Aug. 23, The New York Times, National Public Radio and The Economist have run stories that characterized Dunn as a drunken driver.

"The rumor about alcohol being involved by either party, especially the truck driver, is incorrect," said Jerome O. Herlihy, a Delaware Superior Court judge who was chief deputy attorney general and worked with crash investigators in 1972.

"If it were some part of a cause of the accident, there would have been a charge, simply because if you're driving under the influence and kill someone in the process -- whether it's the wife of a U.S. senator or anybody else -- there's going to be a charge," he said.

Herlihy said investigators discussed several possible causes for the crash, including that Biden's first wife, Neilia, turned her head and didn't see the oncoming truck as she exited the intersection of Limestone and Valley roads on Dec. 18, 1972.

Neither Biden's book nor his campaign Web site directly addresses the alcohol issue, but the senator has done so publicly on at least two occasions.

The New York Times reported the 2007 crowd at the University of Iowa grew silent as Biden gave his version of what happened that day.

"Let me tell you a little story," The newspaper quoted Biden as saying. "I got elected when I was 29, and I got elected November the 7th. And on Dec. 18 of that year, my wife and three kids were Christmas shopping for a Christmas tree. A tractor-trailer, a guy who allegedly -- and I never pursued it -- drank his lunch instead of eating his lunch, broadsided my family and killed my wife instantly, and killed my daughter instantly, and hospitalized my two sons, with what were thought to be at the time permanent, fundamental injuries."

Biden told a similar story when addressing an audience at the Bob Carpenter Center at the University of Delaware a few days after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

"It was an errant driver who stopped to drink instead of drive and hit a tractor-trailer, hit my children and my wife and killed them," Biden said, according to a transcript archived on his Senate Web site.

Even before Obama asked Biden to join his campaign, political observers said the senator's gaffes could be a liability in a contest where every word will be scrutinized. Biden's first presidential campaign 20 years ago was undone by charges he plagiarized parts of a speech by British Labor Party leader Neil Kinnock.

Asked about Biden's accounts of the accident, Wade warned against writing anything that would "infer, paraphrase, or be anything less than precise on such a personal and tragic subject."

After the 1972 accident, Biden never sought any records from the time of the crash, nor did he seek any further investigation, Wade said.

"In remarks he made at the University of Iowa he said 'allegedly -- and I never pursued it.' " Wade wrote in an e-mail. "Nor did he encourage reporting on it then or at any other time. He has never called it or thought of it as anything other than an 'accident.' His focus was his grief over the loss of his wife and daughter and his concern for the recovery of his sons."

News reports from 1972 said Neilia Hunter Biden pulled away from a stop sign at Limestone and Valley roads about 2:30 p.m. when the tractor-trailer driven by Dunn, which was coming down a hill on Limestone Road, hit the side of her station wagon. Dunn freed himself from the truck and was the first to reach the Biden car, according to a report by the The Evening Journal, a precursor to The News Journal.

Neilia Biden and 13-month-old daughter Naomi, whom the family called Amy, were declared dead at a hospital. Son Beau, now Delaware's attorney general, broke his leg, and son Hunter suffered head injuries. Joe Biden, who had been elected to his first term in the Senate just a month before, took his oath of office at the boys' bedside.

Two days after the crash, Herlihy, a neighbor of the Bidens in the late 1960s who still considers the senator "a friend," told the paper that there was no evidence that Dunn "was speeding, drinking or driving a truck with faulty brakes." No criminal charges related to the crash were ever filed against Dunn, who lived in North East, Md.

Hamill, one of seven children, was 8 years old at the time of the accident. She remembers her father watching news reports of the crash while wearing a sling to support a shoulder injury he suffered in the accident.

She said Dunn was always "solemn" around the Christmas holidays. Years later, when her brother planned to get married on Dec. 18, Dunn told the family "I don't celebrate on that day," Hamill said.

"We're not trying to equate Sen. Biden's loss to my father's heartache," Hamill said. "But we wanted it to be known that our father never forgot that tragic day."

Hamill said it wasn't until the Inside Edition report that she became aware that the Delaware senator had said alcohol played a role in the accident. Dunn did not consume any alcohol the day of the crash, Hamill said.

She said she immediately called Biden's office after being contacted by Inside Edition and is waiting for the senator's response.

"The family feels these statements are both hurtful and untrue and we didn't know where they originated from," Hamill said.

As Hamill watched a recording of the Inside Edition report Wednesday, she gasped when the clip of Biden's comments from Iowa came on screen.

After reading a News Journal account of Biden's 2001 speech at UD, Hamill sent Biden a letter on behalf of her father. The newspaper story included Biden's description of getting the call that his wife and daughter had died, but not his comments about Dunn.

Hamill said her note to the senator described how Dunn was affected by the accident.

Printed on the senator's letter head and dated Oct. 11, 2001, the response from Biden reads:

"I apologize for taking so long to acknowledge your thoughtful and heartfelt note," Biden wrote. "All that I can say is I am sorry for all of us and please know that neither I nor my sons feel any animosity whatsoever."

    Heh...Dumb & Dumber

Joe Biden bone-headedly urges a disabled lawmaker in a wheelchair to during a campaign rally.

Next, Barack Obama mocks John McCain for not using a computer to send e-mail — despite mainstream media articles dating back to 2000 that report he can’t type because of the war injuries inflicted by his Vietnamese torturers.

Meetings with Foreign Leaders? Biden's Been There, Done That

Heh, maybe this should be in the Sarah thread.

Maybe it's just a coincidence, but after two weeks of requests for a list of the world leaders that Democratic vice presidential nominee Joseph R. Biden, Jr., has met with, his office released one -- on the very day GOP vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin met with her first world leaders.

Judging from the eight-page document -- which Biden's office said was only a "partial list" -- Biden has quite a headstart on Palin.

As of September 23, his office says, he has met with the leaders of nearly 60 countries, territories and international organizations (such as the United Nations and NATO.) The list of names runs to about 150 people -- including nine Israeli prime ministers (ten if you including prime minister designate Tzipi Livni), four Soviet leaders and two Russian presidents, a few kings and a queen (of England), Pope John Paul II and the Dalai Lama, and even a few tough guys like Libyan leader Moammar Gaddafi and Serbian president Sloban Milosevic.

Bah humbug, leftist propaganda and a clear obfuscation of facts.

I don't think there can be any disagreement that Biden has more experience thna Palin in this regard, irrespective of how partisan one is.

Too true, and that's why Obama picked him to be his VP, but what's McCain's reason? Votes alone.

    Cynical, very cynical.

I think Obama would have done better with a younger, less DC-linked person . . . but then he would have been hammered for neither having enough experience.

I think, to round it all up, it is all smoke and mirrors.

The 'maverick' McCain is not one

Palin 'the whatever' is not anything

Obama 'the people's representative' is not one

Biden 'hanger-on for the big change' is not that.

Too true, and that's why Obama picked him to be his VP, but what's McCain's reason? Votes alone.

    Cynical, very cynical.
This is another reason for tuning out more than following this election.

The VPs were picked to get votes needed to win, and get the votes from the specific demographics needed.

More evidence of what a crock the whole election is.

^ Yes. I also think Nader and Barr will act to upset vote counts in the states where they are on the ballot. Who will they nick from this time? Obama or McCain?

Ah, but these two are the real deal - they are not pandering to what they believe will get them elected, they are actually working on a platform they believe in and are therefore the most deserving candidates.

After all, where is it stated that only two parties should be alowed to run.
