certainly such a proclamation would render a politician unelectable on grounds of mental psychosis.
    Good question by CMN.

    Culture, I suppose.

Many Americans (that I know at least) are not religious.

But in politics these politicians where their religion on their sleeve - this is not done in Europe.

Lot of Evangelicals in the Midwest of America - Evangelicals are born again Xtians.

Also in the USA, there are many preachers and pastors that are on the radio and TV, and make millions of dollars.

    Strange lot.
You know what's bad? The Democrats are doing it now too. "God's speed!", that's Hillary's line.

You're not sounding very American-like Milky.
Not doing much for CMN's credibility.
Wait ... PNM's a merkin too. Another godless wonder.

Then there's me ... wilikers CMN, seems your observation isn't holding much water.

    I know this Tex.

I know some Seppo citizens and they don't believe in God either.

what I want to know is why politicians don't get laughed at and rendered unemployable owing to the obvious secularism of an awful lot of you.

could it be that you are not being entirely honest about the lack of sophistication in your country?

The US has this freedom of speech things, that basically gave a go at all kind of diversity, religious sects, and even the Nazi party being alive and well over there

Exactly, nothing like mixing business with pleasure, freedom of speech and religions with big money. Religion in the US is just another business, thousands of church, sects etc... all legal and doing well financially. The most famous church being the Scientology. Anyone can create their own church and sects, a breeding ground for all kind of abuses and fraud artists.

I listened to her in full. Many things she said impressed me. Many did not. In my mind, it is McCain who is running for Pres. What she has to say is of interest but wouldn't make me vote for or against McCain.

As it relates to Gov. Palin and her policies/beliefs, I must say I have fundamentally different belief's. She is staunchly opposed to; abortion under any circumstances, stem cell research and she is a prototype Christian fundamentalist who believes that "god" is on her side so she must be right.

These beliefs are the very things that drive many moderate conservatives away from the GOP and can only result in further dividing an already severely divided country. Unlike McCain, I have heard nothing that convinces me she will be effective at uniting the country.

Yeah, I noticed. Very pathetic, but unfortunately, I do think it's necessary (but it shouldn't be).

Many Demos are playing this card. Even Bill Clinton had to play (or chose to play it) by carring a copy of the bible with the "Holy Bible" exposed for photographers, as he'd walk into and out of church during the election cycles.

    I'm quite sick of it.

Tex, I'm not sure what your point is.

    Serious.

Can you re-state this? Then I can clarify my comments.

Palin gave a great speech tonight (a bit too much emphasis on military stuff, but...). She won't have any probs debating jaw-flapper Biden IMO.

    .
I saw something the other day on TV where some one said that 1/4 of Americans consider themselves "Evangelical Christians". Thought that was high, but a quick search today pulled up a wiki site (yeah, only a starting point) that confirms that figure.

America (as the wiki article points out) is deeply religious -one of the most religious in the world. To an extent this may reflect the nature of the founding fathers etc - religious "refugees" of one form or another.

Anyway, rumage around the site. Scary stuff, but also highlighting why Palin may sell so well....

The USA is a very conservative place in many ways.

It is nice to view it from afar.

Do you mean the oil pipeline, god's will statement. I posted a link to that video yesterday, but by now it's probably on youtube. The god comments for the Iraq war are also on the link I posted.

She is a good speaker, IMO. She's articulate. She can also speak fairly well, spontaneously.

As for the debate with Biden. She is being coached and tutored, like all Prez and VP candidates.

Extensive fake debates and practice debates, with all kinds of scenarios.

I don't expect any candidate, Prez or VP, to flop in the debates. This campaign has gone on so long, that there won't be anything new divulged. It'll be for image, and exposure.

    Debates? yawwwwn.

The US is probably second to Iran, SA and all those religious fanatics countries,

no surprised that the talibans were received as highly regarded statemen when they came to the US for a visit,

I'm waiting for the onslaught to subside. I'm amazed at how tremendous the attack has been on her in order to squelch the enthusiasm Republicans have for her. It's coming on so hard and fast it difficult to sift through it. Supposably, she cut funding for young girl's in her daughter's position but she actually didn't go along with the proposed increase (translation they always ask for more then they expect to receive). So I don't know that she did cut funding. The dust will have to settle before I'll be able to get an accurate picture of her.
