Why can't you guys seperate criticisms of what your Govt. is doing from an attack on all Americans? Why is it "anti-American" to point out that they're trampling over the rights of others? The so-called and self-professed 'Leaders of the Free World' are held to a higher standard, as they should be. Dismissing valid criticism out-of-hand as "anti-Amercian" is so much hollow rethoric.

So the irony is that Tex never stayed longer than a few weeks a year in his own country, and yet claim to know more about the US than anyone else, and others have lived there but "can't" understand what American values are ? is that right Tex ?

Justify them? That would actually make a refreshing change from all this simply repeating the same tosh over and over and over and name-calling without ever actually addressing a point in issue.

There are very few soldiers on Okinawa. You're facade is cracking. And yes 20K servicemen and another 15-20K wives, children, family members, it's as good a representation as you'll find anywhere........ News Flash, I get it.

Spend night on the Okinawa in 90 awaiting transfer in the gulf shortly before the firworks started. Sh*t hole of a ship, I got stuck on a top bunk next to an uninsulated hot water pipe in a space with little to no AC. Woke up thinking I was bathing in my own sweat.

Later in the year, on another ship, we took abroad about 3000 Iraq pows, we did our best to treat them fairly and any thing that resembled abuse or mistreatment was not tolerated at all. I doubt the US military has changed that much since I was in.

In a place as high profile as gitmo, I have little doubt the military is extremely careful in its handling of prisoners.

But if individuals see the world through sh*t colored glasses, like our anti-american friends here seem to do, it is not surprising they see sh*t and are so filled with hatred for good intended individuals who happen to have different political views of the world.

Whether you choose to admit it or not there are valid criticisms of the US Govt. in general and specifically as they pertain to their actions in the so-called 'War on Terror'.

This repeated refusal to deal with or confront these criticisms and simply shouting them down as "anti-American" is a cop-out and, frankly, only serves to show that you cannot rationally justify nor argue to the contrary any of the points.

It's a distinct pattern amongst many of the American posters on here that they are completely disingenuous when it comes to this type of thing. Valid points are ignored, the people making them attacked, and the posts shifted repeatedly.

Most of the other nations represented here make a national sport of crticising their governments. Going by the example on here Americans simply cannot admit that they're wrong and will go to great lengths in order to avoid doing so. It's intellectual dishonesty at its nadir.

If the policy of having a prison on Cuba, the oldest overseas US base, was so horribly misguided they would have shut it down years ago. The fact is you're wrong and you can't seem to come to terms with that. You are the minority. You are the dissenting voice. I seem to be the only one listening to you. It's sheer entertainment.

What a bizzare rationale; 'Gitmo's still operating so therefore it must be ok'. You can extend that to it's logical conclusion and come up with all sorts of werid and wonderful outcomes. Of course you also seem to have forgotten that they are discussing shutting down Gitmo.

Fact of the matter is that it has been and remains the subject of International condemnation, Tex. Ignoring that neither justifies nor excuses it.

This is where you're consistently wrong. What terrorists? How many of the current Gitmo inmates have been charged and found guilty of terrorism or terrorist related activities? Am I also to believe that they are guilty purely by reason of their being there in the first place? Well to prempt that argument you'll have to reconcile that with the fact that inmates have been released from there after having been held for years and facing no charges.
