    Obama resigns from church
Candidate seeks to distance himself from Wright
    BREAKING NEWS
    The Associated Press
    updated 6:52 p.m. ET May 31, 2008

Barack Obama has resigned his 20-year membership in the Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago in the aftermath of inflammatory remarks by his longtime pastor the Rev. Jeremiah Wright and more recent fiery remarks at the church by another minister.
Obama campaign communications director Robert Gibbs said Obama had submitted a letter of resignation to the church and would discuss his decision in a session with reporters later Saturday.
It happened "over the last few days," Gibbs said.
Comments by Wright have inflamed racial tensions and posed an unwanted problem for Obama, front-runner for the Democratic presidential nomination, as he seeks to wrap up the nomination.
More recently, racially charged remarks from the same pulpit by another pastor, the Rev. Michael Pfleger, has kept the controversy alive and proved the latest thorn in the side of Obama.
Pfleger earlier this month mocked Obama rival Hillary Rodham Clinton as a guest speaker at Obama's church.
Obama has condemned comments by both Wright and Pfleger, but the controversy has persisted.

This breaking news story will be updated.

How long can obama keep lieing and say that he had NO knowledge of the political views of his "friend" and pastor? Seems totally unbelievable to me that he could be close friends with this guy for over 20 years and obama know nothing. So what is obama going to do? My guess is that he'll revert back to islam.

    Not well thought out IMHO.
Therefore he knew and went along with the rhetoric, but now believes it to be expedient to reject the teachings of his church.
He will make a sound Ally.
When trouble lurks you know which way he will run!
President material? No I don't think so.
How can you trust him to be the leader of the "free world"?

But he's not doing it just for himself, he's doing it for the church so they can get back to praying with their new Rev Moss.

So much for the nonsense that he is for change and is not a typical politician; obviously he resigned due to political pressure. Obama as president is not a terrible prospect, but the idea that he is not a typical politician is laughable. McCain has consistently been more unconventional and taken more controversial stands than Obama has.

But it all about impressions, not substance.

Obama has used traditional political spin to market himself as both safe and different. Good strategy on his part. Obama, like him or not, has shown to be an astute politician who can read the mood of the American people very well.

Think he should have dumped that church and all associated with it long before he came this far, bet he thinks the same.

Not sure about his Neanderthal wife though she looks straight out of Compton.

A 46 year old black single-term Senator without any significant political achievement is going to be the Democract Party's nomination for President of the USA. How the hell did that happen? Good decisions on marketing and good political positioning had a role to play. Obama ain't dumb, he understands the system very well and knows how to position himself.

He has had to balance positioning himself in a way to win the nomination without ruining his chances for the general election. I think he has done this delicate balancing act quite well.

My money is still on McCain to win, but I did not think Obama had much chance of beating Hillary. So it would be a mistake to underestimate his political savvy.

In some ways, he has used these incidents at his church to firm up his support with the far left. Probably not the hand he wanted, but I think he has played it pretty well.

^ Don't forget that he is wearing a flag pin now, too. Seems to have even more of a swagger these days. Guess he believes the cat is in the bag.

Since obama has "resigned" from this church, it would appear that he must have been a member of the church board or something. This would certainly mean that he would have better knowledge of what the political views of the church and or the leaders of this church. This being the case, then he's just trying to hide the truth that he is as radical as the preacher himself.

Never thought of that, Lim. But maybe he bought a pew or something.
