Why do politicians lie?

Hillary Clinton's just lit a fire under her own campaign by saying that she landed in Bosnia in 1996 under sniper fire and had to run for cover. Now the TV news programmes are showing her exiting the plane, being greeted by well-wishers including little girls.

Why do politicians do this? Don't they think they'll get found out? Don't they realise how much we hate them for doing this?!

B Baa, I am laughing my panties off with this campaign. The Bosnia "mis-spoke" is classic. Oh, under fire, running for cover that Secret Service prepared her for. Oh, and um, then why is daughter Chelsea there as well? Just call it like it is. Misstatement and misspoke = LIES.
Nevertheless, this campaign coverage is better than Comedy Central.

Hildebeast is the last candidate I would vote for in this election.
But.
Whenever VIPs are inbound to a potential hostile fire zone, they're briefed on safety and transportation procedures before final approach. It's believable that an attached secret service guy or intel officer mentioned some kind of recent sniper fire in the city or near the airport that changed their plans. Happens all the time.

While it may be true the airport realized a sniper incident that day, the TV footage shows her exiting the back of the plane with little drama.

Over years "a sniper incident at the airport" transforms into "we were under sniper fire." Is that an outright lie or a bit of truth stretching?

I don't believe she invented this scenario out of the blue to make herself appear Rambo.

Main reason that they lie is due to the fact that they are all Lawyers first and a politician second.
And as lawyers, can not ever tell the truth, how do you expect politicians to be able to shed being a lawyer..

IMO this story (Clinton's exaggerations) will have legs--at least until the end of th week. First because so many people hate her, and second because there are 15 years of video and transcripts for people to pore over--for example the great vids posted by MM. I would think that her Irish peace initiative claims will also come back to the fore. When it first came out ten days or so ago, the media was preoccupied with the religious leader of another candidate. It will be nice if they apply the same scrutiny to the words of the candidates themselves and not their supporters.

And consider if Obama had been caught telling such a whopper. He'd be toast....we'll he'd also be toast if he were as behind as she is popular vote, pledged delegates and contests won.
