this is true...to an extent, IMO.Quote:

in essence an obama victory (change) is a total repudiation of the rovian tactics of divisive politics..... and the war in iraq.
make no mistake, the bush white house desperately wants mccain to win (notice that rove is even working for mccain)....even though they don't like him personally.
cindy mccain is many things, but this is going too far..... she always looks likes she bathed.Quote:

But I wouldn't rule out some Rovian tactics later in this campaign- electorally, it does look (to me) like the GOP is in trouble. Funny how a politician will forego his lofty scruples when faced with defeat.
I reckon the Rep's shot their Obama bolts too early (and didn't get Hil the nomination), but Rove is a kind of evil genius- when their back is against the wall, who knows what he might come up with. Hopefully the US public are wise to him by now.

thanks for the politico linky.
Last I heard anything out of McCain in regard to Rove, McCain confirmed that they had one meeting and that had been it. Even the stuff on Huffington and Politico really only reference the one conversation. Haven't seen anything about Rove being directly involved since early March. Might be because he is not involved; might be because McCain doesn't want people to know/think Rove is involved?
I would not be surprised if Rove does get more involved at some stage if for no other reason that to help pacify the far right and their concerns over how McCain has been running his campaign.
Say what you will about Rove but anyone capable of getting Bush elected a second time has to have some skill related to political campaigns.
^ I think his real coup was stacking Florida so that a number of Democrat supporters could not vote at all. That literally made the difference between Kerry and Bush winning- it was that close.
The next election, the USA was still in the grip of post 911 patriotic fervour- reality took a while longer to sink in. Most US citizens still thought that saddam was involved with 911, as Rove no doubt ensured.
i don't think anyone disputes rove's short term results....but what he's done to the country will take years to repair. the divisiveness manufactured on unimportant social issues certainly didn't start with rove, but he brought it to new depths.
i would think mccain certainly doesn't want people to know that mccain is advising him....it hurts his 'maverick' reputation. but rove has as much invested in seeing mccain elected as bush does....both of their legacies are dependent upon mccain winning.
if mccain loses, rove's reputation will be in tatters because the repubs got crushed in 2006 and 2008.
mccain losing would be the best thing for the american political system because it might send an important message to both campaign managers and the candidates themselves.
Hope it sends a strong message to congress as well. They are as culpable as Bush for the sorry state.Quote:

He's another candidate for the office of Executive, among a very short list of people that are honestly, not very good.
When was the last time that the US Presidential election had a very competent and respected candidate?
These type of candidates are few and far between.
And I don't expect and better to come forward in the future and run.
they shouldn't only think short term....going for 50.1% on divisive social issues may get you a dirty win, but it will end up coming back to bite you in the ass.Quote:

certainly unlikely at this point.....most of these guys are cutthroats--and you'd have to be to get involved in that line of work--and if you were a candidate, you'd mostly likely want this characteristic in a campaign managerQuote:
