This is gonna piss off Rigger, but it has to be said: Legalize drugs. Regulate and tax the supply, spend the money you save on education. No more drug gangs, no more terrorist funding, drug users can be tracked and treated. The only losers are the criminals.

I've been living in BKK for years. The reason why Thai youth take yaba is because they are being targetted as buyers. The drug business is exactly that a business. Which means that it operates according to the laws of economics. This is why you and I would have trouble finding access to drugs, while any Thai kid can probably get any drug they like. By making drugs illegal you ensure that the control of the market in it the hands of criminals. Legalize it and the supply can be controlled and managed effectively. Do you think that a criminal cares how old their customers are? Or whether the customer has had too much? Of course not.

Secondly, users could be tracked and their attendant health problems dealt with by health practioners. So there will also be a health benefit, and the attendant improvement in work rates that go along with that.

You suggestion to restart the war on drugs will only cause the prices to rise and entice more people into the business. Thus the war on drugs ensures that major drug gangs make obscene profits while young people continue to ruin their health (or get shot), while driving crime ever higher. It didn't work last time, and it won't work this time.

Can you give them free food/motorcycles/cars/petrol while your at it because they will still be more likely to steal shit and commit crimes while out there heads on meth. Making meth amphetamines legal is the most stupid thing I have ever heard. Which country has Meth Amphetamines for free ?

I didn't say for free - you need to read up on these things. Legalize as in booze and cigarrettes. i.e not available to kids. If kids get hold of them, then it's simple enough to find the supplier. Plain economics. What you are seeing is the result of prohibition, not the result of the drugs.

None as far as I know. But thats not the point - the fact that meth is a dangerous drug makes it even more important that it should be controlled and regulated. What the prohibitionists don't grasp is that making it illegal actually increases availability, not the other way round. As I keep saying it's economics. The reason meth is a big problem is because it's very cheap to make, but the street price is tens of thousand of times higher. Thus the profit margin is huge. This means that there are some very big organized gangs making the stuff by the ton. If you legalize, then the profit margin goes away, and nobody will want to make tonnes of the stuff.

BTW Milton Friedman was all for drug legalization, for exactly the reasons I outlined above - and he knew economics.

I think you are being a bit melodramatic. Meth is nasty, but it doesn't turn people into murderous killing machines (at least not the last time I tried it...). It's just like anything else, if you can control it and regulate it, then you have a chance to manage the problem down to a reasonable level. If you just make it illegal, then your only recourse is to just shoot everybody. But that only works if you really shoot everybody. Back in the real world, some of those meth-heads will have fathers in positions of power, so that just isn't going to work.

Incidentally, this is the main reason why although more white folks do drugs than black folks (per capita - it's true, I have the figures if you want), more blacks get arrested than whites. It's keeps cops looking busy, and gets the quotas up without bugging any 'nice folks' about the Drug War.

There is a differents between tring it and being a yabba head, long term effect which I have witness many times does turn the person crazy enough to pretty well do anything. Sorry I tried some dont cut it, hit it for month or a year as a yabba head does annd come back and tell me we should supply it cheap to all yabba heads. I really think you havent seen the full effect the drug has on some peoples life that get caught up in it.
