Personally, I believe this is why so many people place so much faith in religion & spirituality, as they simply can't fathom that the end of life means just that, the end... The belief in Heaven, Hell, Valhalla, Elysium, Nirvana, Paradise, etc provides people with hope that there is an afterlife...

It used to be full of trendy boutiques that my ex-wife used to spend hours in, buying things that, when she got home, decided she didn't like and they spent the rest of their life in the wardrobe !!
Only consolation was that I used to escape to the "Press" wine bar opposite the Express & Star building (Tower Street ?) and get gently pissed on a bottle or so of decent wine !

Since I don't believe in any god, I believe I will be gone for good.

To make up for the need to believe something else I feel I will live on in my offspring. That's the best we can do.

What happens to my body I don't care much. However given the choice I would like to be buried under some old tree or burnt and the ashes strewn into the sea.
