King and Queen arrive in Ottawa for royal visit
King Charles, Queen Camilla arrive in Canada ahead of throne speech
King Charles arrived in Canada Tuesday afternoon for a short visit that will include reading the speech from the throne in Parliament.
The highly symbolic visit is happening as Canada copes with U.S. President Donald Trump's attempts to upend global trade with tariffs and his repeated calls for Canada's annexation.
The Canadian Armed Forces plane carrying the King and Queen Camilla landed in Ottawa shortly after 1 p.m.
King Charles, in a grey suit and dark red tie, and Queen Camilla, in a pastel pink coat dress, were greeted on the tarmac by Canadian officials, including Prime Minister Mark Carney and Gov. Gen. Mary Simon, along with the leaders of national Indigenous organizations.
They then walked past a small group of onlookers gathered at the airport, shaking hands with some before climbing into the back of a black sedan.
An arrival guard from the Royal Canadian Dragoons was also on hand to welcome the King and Queen.
This trip is the couple's first visit to Canada since the King's coronation two years ago.

King Charles in Ottawa for throne speech and rare royal visit
King Charles III and his wife, Queen Camilla, arrived in Ottawa on May 26 to open Parliament and take a mini tour of the capital.
ItÂ’s only the third time a reigning monarch has given a speech from the throne in Parliament. ItÂ’s been nearly 50 years since CharlesÂ’ mother, Queen Elizabeth II, gave a speech from the throne in 1977. She had also given the speech in 1957.
The visit comes as Canada has been under economic and rhetorical assault from U.S. president Donald Trump, whose trade war and threats to make the country a “51st state” have disquieted much of the country and sent shockwaves through the economy.
It draws on the country’s history and tradition, emphasizing the unique sovereignty afforded the country by our constitutional monarchy — a monarchy the Americans quite famously broke with in the 18th century.
Today, after arriving at the airport just after 1 p.m., the King and Queen will head to Lansdowne Park visited the market and also saw a street hockey demonstration, where the King dropped the ceremonial puck to start the game.
Then they headed to Rideau Hall, where the King planted a tree, and the Queen was sworn in as a member of the Privy Council.
Tomorrow, after a procession down Wellington Street, Charles will deliver the speech from the throne to open Parliament and set the agenda.

Honourable senators, members of the House of Commons,
It is with a sense of deep pride and pleasure that my wife and I join you here today, as we witness Canadians coming together in a renewed sense of national pride, unity and hope.
I would like to acknowledge that we are gathered on the unceded territory of the Algonquin Anishinaabeg people. This land acknowledgement is a recognition of shared history as a nation. While continuing to deepen my own understanding, it is my great hope that in each of your communities, and collectively as a country, a path is found toward truth and reconciliation, in both word and deed.
This is my 20th visit to Canada, spread over the course of more than half a century, and my first as Sovereign. As I have said before, "Every time I come to Canada, a little more of Canada seeps into my bloodstream — and from there straight to my heart." I have always had the greatest admiration for Canada's unique identity, which is recognized across the world for bravery and sacrifice in defence of national values, and for the diversity and kindness of Canadians.

I think this trip might be one of the most important events of the king's reign.
Well, that's not saying much. :D
Anyway, did he recommend they sell up to Trump, as Starmer wants according to you?

It's sickening when you think of all those young Canadian heroes who gave up their lives for the UK 80 odd years ago.
