Perhaps there are more reasons to call the election early in July. The BOE will no doubt drop interest rates in August. Some mortgage holders win. Anyone relying on a UK work pension will get less, as Sterling drops.

An American radio host has resigned after admitting that in an interview with President Joe Biden, she asked a number of questions that she had received from Biden's staff.

The interview was the first that Joe Biden gave after the TV debate against Donald Trump the other day, writes The Guardian.

Radio station WURD states that the interview, arranged by radio host Andrea Lawful-Sanders, "violated the station's editorial independence by accepting questions from Biden's staff."

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is not worried about the health of US President Joe Biden.

The heads of state and government of the 32 NATO countries will meet this week for a summit in Washington. At the meeting, they will also celebrate the alliance's 75th anniversary.

"From the many conversations I have had with the American president, I know that he has prepared very well and accurately for this summit with us," Scholz said, according to Reuters.

Joe Biden referred to Volodymyr Zelensky as “President Putin” in front of almost two dozen world leaders on Thursday night, in a significant gaffe that will worsen the crisis engulfing his presidency.

The US president, who is facing calls to stand down over concerns about his age, confused the Ukrainian president with the Russian leader in a speech at the Nato summit in Washington DC.

Mr Biden spoke for several minutes about the importance of protecting Ukraine from Russian aggression, before turning to Mr Zelensky and introducing him by the wrong name.

“Now, I want to hand over to the President of Ukraine, who has as much courage as he has determination,” he said. “Ladies and gentlemen: President Putin.”
