I'm not sure they have a choice. The election funding raised for the Biden camp can be transferred to her relatively easily, since she's the VP. However, for other nominees, they will need to raise their own funds and this could be a tad difficult at this stage.

TUCSON, Ariz. (KGUN) — With Joe Biden stepping down as the Democrats’ nominee for President, an Arizona Senator is getting a lot of mentions as a prospect for the Vice Presidential pick on the ticket.
Sen. Mark Kelly was already being floated as possible replacement for Joe Biden as the Presidential nominee. Kelly has pledged his support for Kamala Harris Sunday, but that still leaves him discussed as a possibility for the Vice President slot.

Kelly checks off a lot of boxes that play well in politics: He was a Navy Combat Pilot, and an astronaut. NASA makes a point to select and train astronauts for problem solving, coolness under pressure and teamwork.
He has been a very successful fundraiser on his way to winning a seat in the Senate from Arizona—a key swing state with a Republican tradition that’s become more willing to elect Democrats.

I have yet to see Obama endorse Harris.

She really needs him to step up or it will be a fucking farce.

Former President Barack Obama declined to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris on Sunday in a lengthy statement on President Joe Biden dropping out of the presidential race.
Obama praised Biden’s career and time in office as president, and called him “a patriot of the highest order” following the former vice president’s decision to bow out of the 2024 presidential race.

Shortly after announcing he would not seek the Democratic nomination, Biden endorsed Harris. But rather than endorsing Harris, Obama wrote that he was confident Democratic leadership would “create a process from which an outstanding nominee emerges” at the upcoming Democratic National Committee convention in Chicago next month.

Obviously polling at this stage is very premature, but at present she is losing a hypothetical matchup with the orange turd in five of the seven key swing states.

    Not good.

However, she should be able to get a few more female votes thanks to the SCOTUS-for-hire's silly decision to throw out Roe v Wade.

Harris is tainted with the Biden shit show, did little during his presidency. IMO they need a break from Biden completely, should have done at least 4 months ago and they need an entirely new candiddate but they've left it so late it'll be extremely difficult for anyone to make their mark in the time available. Complete fuk up, Trumps campaign manager counldn't have scripted it better.

George Clooney would be the ace-in-the-hole.

The US is a function of Hollywood, the audience a malleable, credulous and easily manipulated demographic. HeÂ’d be a shoo-in against the ugly, malevolent, boorish and deeply unattractive Republicans and their fat fuck sack of orange hamburger shit champion.

Would the Democrats have the imagination? Most likely not but as a man heÂ’d excel.

Americans ainÂ’t going to go for a black woman somewhat immune to greatness.

Trump for another four years is the future and this means the ascendancy of populist tyranny championed by Putin and his like.

    The world is fucked.

Hang on, Biden was under tremendous pressure to resign, and now he has, that's seen as a mistake too?

Democrats need to act fast, get themselves a new leader and promote that leader with all the money they can. Media attention, social media, promote everywhere to kill off Trump.

Surely it can't be that hard to trash Trump.

The democrats are now faced with a very serious damage limitation exercise. Harris as the sitting VP is by far the cheapest option to do this, even if her promotion to democratic candidate is as a losing candidate.

Those Democrats who endorse Harris, will not be required to face Trump this time around. They are putting her forward as a sacrificial lamb, to avoid a potential confrontation with Trump for themselves.

She will certainly have to grow a pair, in order to gain the nomination, and then take the fight to Trump, as the authorized democratic candidate.

No other candidate wants to face Trump head on. Harris is the only viable candidate to save the party from self immolation. This is based on her appointment as VP and the endorsement by Biden. He has delivered a poisoned chalice, and he is telling the US democratic political world to support her or dissolve.

If Harris has any sense, she will decline.

The alternative is for her to face the cowardice of the Party that nominated Trump, and the backward rednecks that will vote for him! When such fools are prepared to elect a liar and a felon, real people have no other choice.

To praise Biden for ‘doing the right thing’ is patently incorrect. He has deliberately sold Harris a pup.

Well it's one or the other.

The fact she "did little" means she can say "she did little wrong".

The main issues that seem to trouble the swing voters are inflation and immigration.

She can try and take joint credit for prices falling (which they are), but her record on immigration is not good.

However, she can point to the Republicans blocking the bipartisan immigration bill and blame them for it.

Plus she can appeal to women in way Clinton never could.

Her approval/disapproval ratings are better than Clinton's but that's a low bar.

Americans whining about immigration is a delicious irony given their entire socio- economic existence depended on it for over the past 125 years.

Personally I wouldn’t give a fuck about the silly fuckers if we didn’t have a Russia intent on rebuilding an empire, the worst threat to civilisation on the planet.

Having a president as dumb and incoherent as Trump signals to these fucking tyrants that authoritarian populism founded on jingoism and deception is a legitimate dogma and an acceptable system of governance. We’ve seen this already with his suborning of the Supreme Court and their suppression of a functioning rule of law applicable to all equally.

I think they already knew somehow.

Of course this Project 2025 is steering things a little more the way of Mr. Shithole, the high-heeled war criminal and the fat Korean with the silly haircut.

Still early days, late early days but the Dems still have time to get their act together. Expect more surprises to come. Hell, Joe just might resign as Prez making Kamala Prez. Strange days!

Keep in mind there will not be a new Prez til 20 Jan.

And I don't think there's much chance of Biden calling on Kamala to keep him in office.

This is perhaps why the Republicans are so keen to stop Biden's campaign money going to Kamala.

I wonder if he can donate it to a Harris SuperPAC?

Vice president Kamala Harris, the current leading candidate to replace Joe Biden as the Democratic presidential nominee, is leading former president Donald Trump in three national polls. Biden announced he would not be seeking reelection on Sunday and endorsed Harris as his successor. The decision came after he faced increasing political pressure to stand down, with fellow Democrats, donors and voters all raising concerns about his age and fitness after his poor presidential debate performance on June 27, and his subsequent diagnosis with COVID-19.

While Trump has consistently led both Harris and Biden in most national polls, in three polls this month, all conducted before Biden stepped down, Harris narrowly led Trump in a hypothetical head-to-head, with each of her leads falling within the margin of error.

The most recent national poll putting Harris in front was conducted by Marist for NPR and
PBS News between July 9 and July 10 and surveyed 1,309 adults. Harris garnered 50 percent support compared to Trump's 49 percent, with just 1 percent of respondents remaining undecided. This poll had a margin of error of +/- 3.3.

A great interview with James Carville. I love this guy, he and David Axelrod were the brains behind getting Clinton and Obama elected, both of whom warned that Biden was too old for the last year and a half but no one listened.

Boebert wants proof of life? Biden should offer to meet her in a local theater. Hell, he might get a hand job out of the deal.
