Transport Ministry heads to court in Khao Kradong land battle

Legal team to produce 10 documents ‘proving’ Buri Ram plots belong to State Railway, says minister Suriya

The Transport Ministry’s legal team will produce 10 documents to prove to the court that 179 rai (29 hectares) of disputed land in Khao Kradong, Buri Ram province, belongs to the State Railway of Thailand (SRT), minister Suriya Jungrungreangkit said on Tuesday.

The SRT claims that the Department of Lands (DoL) wrongfully issued title deeds for the 12 disputed plots, which reportedly belong to the Chidchob family, a powerful political clan in Buri Ram with links to the Bhumjaithai Party. The plots are located in Isan, Muang district, and house Chidchob family businesses including the Chang International Circuit and Chang Arena, a 32,000-seat football stadium.

The latest move in the land dispute follows a DoL committee’s ruling on November 11 that title deeds for the disputed plots would not be revoked.

The land saga resurfaced in July 2022 when Prachachat Party MP Tawee Sodsong revealed new evidence allegedly linking then-transport minister Saksayam Chidchob to the disputed plots.

Suriya outlined the 10 documents to be submitted as evidence supporting the SRT's claim of land ownership:

    • Five royal decrees issued from 1919-1922 marking the Nakhon Ratchasima-Ubon Ratchathani railway and related property under the SRT
    • The 1951 State Railway of Thailand Act
    • Two documents issued by the Department of Railways, showing a map of SRT land in Khao Kradong
    • Two court verdicts related to the land in question

Suriya said the ministry’s legal team is also preparing to file a malfeasance charge next month against the DoL’s director-general under Section 157 of the Criminal Code.

Section 157 states that any official who wrongfully exercises or fails to exercise their duties, causing harm to others, or who dishonestly performs or neglects their duties, faces a jail term of one–10 years, a fine of 2,000–20,000 baht, or both.

Cabinet to consider Kittiratt’s selection as central bank chairman

The selection committee’s recent decision to name former finance minister Kittiratt Na-Ranong as chairman of the board of the Bank of Thailand is expected to be considered at the meeting of the mobile cabinet in Chiang Mai this Friday.

Finance Permanent Secretary Lavaron Saengsanit said that Finance Minister Pichai Chunhavajira had approved the selection committee’s decision and had forwarded it to the Secretariat of the Cabinet, with the likelihood that it would be added to the cabinet’s meeting agenda.

Hundreds of academics and former staff of the central bank, including four former governors, have expressed concerns that the appointment would enable political interference in the affairs of the central bank, which would threaten the bank’s independence, as Kittiratt is seen as being closely connected to the ruling Pheu Thai party.

Kittiratt served as deputy prime minister and finance minister in the government of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra. He also served as economic advisory chief of former prime minister Srettha Thavisin.

Meanwhile, an informed source in the Finance Ministry said that there is a change in the proposed “resourceful person” to sit on the central bank board, from Pongpanu Sawetroon, former permanent secretary of tourism and sports, to Pornanong Budsaratragoon, secretary-general of the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The source noted that Pongpanu is not qualified to sit on the board because he has not resigned from his position on the board of a private firm.

TAT targets 9 million Chinese visitors in 2025

Tourism and Sports Minister assures his Chinese interlocuteur during meeting in Shanghai that Thailand is a safe place for visitors

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has adjusted its target of welcoming visitors from China in 2025 from 8.8 million to 9 million people, as it eyes achieving at least 90% of the pre-Covid level, governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool said on Tuesday.

Chinese arrivals to Thailand reached a record high of 11 million people in 2019, before the pandemic hit.

Thapanee said achieving this 90% milestone would also celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries next year.

As for this year, the TAT expected to welcome 7.3 million Chinese tourists, who would generate around 450 billion baht of revenue for Thai entrepreneurs.

Between January 1 and November 24, a total of 6.09 million Chinese visitors entered Thailand, making China the biggest market for foreign tourists out of the total foreign arrivals of 31.31 million people.

Thapanee said natural factors such as storms in China and flooding in Thailand have slowed down Chinese arrivals during September and October.

However, thanks to the Loy Krathong Festival which saw activities being held in several provinces of Thailand, more Chinese tourists started arriving in November in a trend that the TAT expected to maintain until January, she said.

In order to achieve the target next year, the TAT has discussed with Chinese airlines the possibility of increasing flight routes as well as frequency to Thailand from New Year until Songkran Festival in April, said Thapanee.

“Priority will be placed on flights from tier 2 and tier 3 Chinese cities to explore new markets and attract tourists with high purchasing power. We would, however, still maintain focus on the main markets of group tours and MICE travellers,” she said.

Earlier, Tourism and Sports Minister Sorawong Thienthong said he led a Thai delegation to attend the China International Travel Mart 2024 (CITM) event, held in Shanghai from November 22-24. The event is a platform for Thai tourism operators to negotiate with partners and present their products and services to Chinese travel agents.

Sorawong said that he met with Zhang Zheng, China’s vice minister of culture and tourism, and assured him that Thailand is a safe place to visit, refuting claims by fake news that have raised doubts among Chinese people planning to visit the kingdom.

The minister also asked Chinese authorities to help communicate measures that Thailand has put in place to ensure the safety of foreign visitors, including the use of AI technology.

Singapore PM in Thailand as both countries strive for closer ties

Cooperation in new areas of mutual interest on the agenda

Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra on Thursday welcomed Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and his wife at Government House in Bangkok at the start of his official visit.

This is Wong’s first official visit to Thailand since he became PM in May 2024.

The welcome ceremony on Thursday started with a guard of honour on the lawn in front of Thai Khu Fah building, followed by a bilateral meeting between the two prime ministers and delegates at the Ivory Room in the Government House.

Paetongtarn and Wong later witnessed the signing of MoUs and agreements between various agencies of the two countries, which they announced at a joint press conference. After the session, the government’s guests attended the luncheon hosted by the Thai PM in honor of her Singaporean guests.

Government spokesperson Jirayu Houngsub said that Thailand and Singapore will hold events to celebrate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2025. The bilateral meeting between the two leaders is aimed at further strengthening relations and cooperation in various areas, including exchange of visits, security and economic partnership, people-to-people relations, and strategic cooperation.

The two leaders will also discuss cooperation in new areas of mutual interest, such as cybersecurity, digital and green economy, and investment in future industries, said Jirayu.

Cabinet greenlights THB20 train fare until November 2025

Move will cost the government THB300 billion in lost revenue

The Cabinet on Friday approved the 20-baht fare cap on the state-run Red and Purple line electric trains for another year, from December 1, 2024 to November 30, 2025.

The move, which aims to help alleviate people’s financial burden, is expected to cost the government some 300 million baht in lost revenue, government spokesperson Jirayu Houngsub said.

The Red Line urban train, run by the State Railway of Thailand, is expected to suffer a loss of 35.35 million baht, while the MRT Purple Line, under the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand, will take a loss of 272.99 million baht due to the campaign.

The 20-baht flat-fare for all routes of electric trains was one of the key election promises of the ruling Pheu Thai Party. The campaign was first implemented in October 2023 on state-run routes, to be expanded to all routes by September 2025.

The Cabinet met at Chiang Mai Rajabhat University in the northern province on Friday, which is the first mobile Cabinet meeting of the Paetongtarn Shinawatra administration.

After chairing the session, the PM, along with her husband and children, visited the exhibition hosted by the university to showcase local handicrafts, said Jirayu.

Cabinet approves increased subsidies for elderly and disabled

The Cabinet approved, in principle, an increase in the cost of living subsidy for the elderly and disabled today, to a maximum of Bt1,250, from the current Bt1,000.

Currently, people aged from 60 to 69, 70 to 79 and 80 to 90 receive Bt600, Bt700 and Bt800 per month respectively, while those over 90 are entitled to Bt1,000 per month.

If confirmed, the increases would mean that they would receive Bt700, Bt800, Bt1,000 and Bt1,250 respectively. Disabled people, meanwhile, would receive Bt1,000 per month, up from Bt800.

Under the current system, families who have children aged up to six and an annual income not exceeding Bt100,000 receive a monthly subsidy of Bt600 per child. This is under review.

Furthermore, if confirmed, free education will be extended to cover children up to 15 years old. The Education, Social Development and Human Security ministries, as well as the Ministry of digital Economy and Society, would be jointly responsible for the management of educational.

Cabinet to consider BOT chairman nomination next week or later: Pichai

The Cabinet will not consider this week the nomination of the new Bank of Thailand (BOT) chairman, Finance Minister Pichai Chunhavajira said on Friday.

The central bank’s selection committee had chosen former finance minister Kittiratt Na-Ranong as the successor to Poramethi Vimolsiri, whose term expired at the end of September.

Pichai confirmed to the press before the mobile Cabinet meeting in Chiang Mai that he had received the documents from the selection committee, but he would have to first review Kittiratt’s qualifications.

He said qualifications of the proposed new BOT board members – former Finance Ministry deputy permanent secretary Chunhajit Sangmai and secretary-general of the Securities and Exchange Commission Pornanong Budsaratragoon – would also be reviewed.

When asked if the Cabinet would consider the appointment of the new central bank chairman and board members next week, Pichai said it could be done next week or the week after.

The minister said he was not worried about activists opposing political intervention in the central bank, saying that there would be no reason to worry if the BOT chairman-elect can perform the duties well.

Pichai affirmed that the second phase of the 10,000 baht handouts to senior citizens aged 60 years and above would be disbursed as planned, adding that the government had prepared a lot of New Year gifts for the people.

THAI’s creditors endorse additional planners proposed by finance ministry

Creditors of Thai Airways International (THAI) approved, by majority vote on Friday, the two additional rehabilitation plan administrators proposed by the Finance Ministry.

They are Panya Chupanich, director of the Office of Transport and Traffic Policy and Planning of the Transport Ministry, and Polchak Nimwatana, deputy director of the State Enterprise Policy Committee of the Finance Ministry, according to Piyasvasti Amranand, chairman of the Business Rehabilitation Plan Executive Committee.

The creditors also approved a debt to equity swap, aimed at wiping out THAI’s 60 billion baht accumulated debt, and a reduction in the par value of THAI shares to 2.5452 baht. Creditors will be issued new shares at that value.

Piyasvasti said that the outcomes of the creditors’ meeting will be forwarded to the Central Bankruptcy Court for consideration on December 12th.

He also said that, if the court approves of the results of the creditors’ meeting, the number of the rehabilitation plan administrators will be increased from three to five, by the inclusion of the two proposed by the Finance Ministry.

The THAI labour union has, however, voiced concern over the Finance Ministry’s representation on the planning committee, reasoning that the post-rehabilitation airline should be more independent and free of political domination. The union blames THAI’s accumulated losses on political interference in its operations.

Tourism and private consumption boost Thailand’s economy: BOT

Government’s cash handout scheme has contributed to rising consumption

The Thai economy has demonstrated positive momentum over the past month, propelled by a significant surge in tourism revenue and robust private consumption, partly fuelled by the government's 10,000-baht cash handout scheme, according to the Bank of Thailand (BOT) on Friday.

This economic upturn is characterised by increased trade activities and a rebound in manufacturing production, driven by improved exports — excluding automobiles — and stronger domestic demand. Government spending has expanded, reflecting both current and investment expenditures. However, some sectors continue to face challenges due to persistent structural issues, the BOT said.

Economic stability indicators show a rise in headline inflation compared to the previous month, primarily attributed to increased energy prices. This increase stems from last year's low base effects following government subsidies.

In contrast, fresh food prices have declined, with vegetable costs dropping due to improved production after the recent flooding. Core inflation remains stable, as higher food prices were counterbalanced by decreasing non-food prices, the central bank said.

    Trade and current account

The current account surplus remained consistent with the previous month, though the trade surplus narrowed due to higher imports. Deficits in services, income, and transfers decreased, linked to a reduction in profit repatriation by foreign firms following the previous month's surge.

The labour market has experienced a downturn, particularly in non-tourism service sectors like trade and construction, as evidenced by rising unemployment claims.

    Tourism and consumption

October saw stable foreign tourist numbers, with notable increases from South Korea, Singapore, and long-haul markets including the US, UK and Germany. This trend contributed to rising tourism revenue.

Private consumption grew across all categories, driven by the government's stimulus programme, with significant increases in non-durables, durables, and services, especially in hotels and restaurants.

    Manufacturing and exports

The manufacturing production index rose, powered by chemicals, electrical appliances, and food sectors, though petroleum production declined due to high inventory levels.

Merchandise exports, excluding gold, remained steady, supported by machinery and electronics exports, while agricultural exports faced challenges.

    Financial landscape

Corporate financing showed mixed signals, with outstanding funding plateauing due to reduced bond issuance. The equity market saw increased business financing, particularly in transportation sectors.

The baht depreciated against the US dollar in October 2024, influenced by uncertainties surrounding Federal Reserve policy and the November US elections.

    Challenges and outlook

While the Thai economy shows resilience, challenges persist. Structural issues in trade and construction continue to impact the labour market. Global economic uncertainties and potential policy shifts in major economies could further influence Thailand's export-oriented industries, the central bank said.

The BOT said it remained committed to closely monitoring economic developments and would adjust monetary policy to support sustainable economic growth and maintain price stability.

Cabinet approves THB641 million for post-flood rehabilitation in North

The Cabinet on Friday approved 641.13 million baht for flood rehabilitation projects in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai provinces in a bid to boost the confidence of travellers during the high tourism season.

The central budget for fiscal year 2025 will be allocated to 39 urgent projects, mostly for restoring transportation and repairing dams, as well as stimulating economy and tourism.

Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra confirmed after a mobile Cabinet meeting that people can now travel to Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai, adding that both provinces were ready to host Winter Festival activities this month.

Regarding the floods in the South, she said Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, Deputy Interior Ministers Sabida Thaiseth and Thirat Rattanawanich and Deputy Defence Minister General Nattapol Nakphanit have been assigned to tackle issues there.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has provided boats, trucks, crane trucks, rescuers and engineers to tackle floods, she said, adding that they are currently on their way to the South.

Paetongtarn explained that the Southern Border Provinces Administration Centre and the Flood, Storm, and Landslide Disaster Relief Operations Centre are collaborating with relevant agencies on offering meals, evacuation.

The premier added that she has urged relevant agencies to mitigate the impact of the floods on the people, so they do not have to wait for assistance like the locals of Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai.

Separately, the Cabinet has approved measures for tackling forest fire and air pollution proposed by the Natural Resources and Environment Ministry, which focuses on controlling crop burning, dealing with haze from vehicle exhaust and construction sites, and setting up centres for tackling cross-border fire and air pollution.

Paetongtarn denies ignoring southern flood victims

PM says she assigned some Cabinet members to take immediate action to help victims
Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra on Sunday denied that she had ignored the plight of southern flood victims, saying she had assigned some Cabinet members to take immediate action to help the victims.

Speaking to reporters while making an inspection trip to the Mae Sai Customs checkpoint in Tambon Mae Sai of Chiang Rai’s Mae Sai district, Paetongtarn said her government treated southern people the same as other regions’ residents.

She said she could not travel to the deep South to oversee flood mitigation herself because she had to attend mobile Cabinet meetings in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai, and those meetings and subsequent visits were planned ahead more than a month in advance.

Paetongtarn held her first mobile Cabinet meeting on Friday.

Critics alleged that Paetongtarn, leader of the ruling Pheu Thai Party, ignored the floods in southern provinces because Pheu Thai’s political base was in the North and Northeast, not in the South.

After days of heavy rain, floods started to hit several southern provinces from Nakhon Si Thammarat to Phatthalung, Songkhla, Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat from late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning.

Paetongtarn said she decided not to visit the provinces now because she wanted local agencies to focus on operations to help flood victims, instead of being distracted to make preparations to welcome and take care of her.

She said she assigned Deputy Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul to lead efforts to help southern flood victims once the government learned of the flood disasters late on Tuesday.

She said she had been in contact with Phumtham and Anutinover the phone all the time, so it was untrue that had ignored the southern flood situation.

The prime minister said she would have to consider the appropriate time to visit the flooded-hit areas in the South.

Paetongtarn added that it was not true that she hated southerners as alleged by her critics.

“My husband is a southerner and his family lives in the South. If I ignored southerners, I would not have married a southerner,” Paetongtarn said.

PRD to communicate with southern flood victims

Joint Information Centre to coordinate efforts to help flood victims in southern border provinces

PM’s Office Minister Jiraporn Sindhuprai has instructed the Public Relations Department (PRD) to use its TV, radio and online information-dissemination facilities to communicate with southern flood victims.

Jiraporn, who supervises the PRD, said on Sunday that she had instructed it to use its Joint Information Centre (JIC) to coordinate efforts to help flood victims in the southern border provinces of Songkhla, Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat.

Those four provinces have been hit with massive floods since late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning.

Jiraporn said Deputy Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai recently chaired a meeting of the Joint Information Centre and he ordered the governors of the four southern provinces to work with the JIC to monitor the situation and coordinate efforts to help flood victims.

Phumtham wants the governors to work with the JIC so that help could be sent to the flood victims in accordance with their need.

Jiraporn said she ordered the PRD Region 6 Office to coordinate with the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Centre (SBPAC) to communicate with flood victims in the deep South to send out help to them.

Jiraporn said the JIC facilities will communicate with the flood victims as follows:

    • NBT2HD station will provide time slots for helping flood victims every day during the “Better Future” programme from 10-11am and “NBT Has Solutions” programme from 3-4pm.
    • NBT11 (NBT South) station will broadcast a southern flood-monitoring programme via three local stations in Surat Thani, Songkhla and Yala at 11-12am from Monday to Friday and at 10-1 am on weekends.
    • 7 NBT radio stations in the five provinces of Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, Satun and Narathiwat will adjust programmes to air information about the flood situation and alleviation efforts.
    • The PRD will communicate to flood victims with NBT Connext, NBT2HD, PRD, PRD Region 6 Office Facebook pages.

On Monday, December 2, the PRD will also launch a special radio pool programme for the SBPAC to communicate to flood victims. The programme will be relayed via the NBT provincial radio stations in the southern provinces and community radio stations in those provinces, Jiraporn said.

Minister attributes rerouting of transportation due to flooding for the delay

The ongoing flooding in the southern region of Thailand has affected over 130,000 households and the government and its agencies are actively addressing the situation, Energy Minister Pirapan Salirathavibhaga revealed.

Pirapan acknowledged that the Ministry of Energy had received reports on shortages of fuel and gas, and said coordination with PTT and OR (PTT Oil and Retail Business) has been initiated to assist local authorities.

"The Ministry of Energy is considering additional measures. Regarding electricity, we have instructed the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand to monitor electricity production and distribution to the affected areas. Thailand secures historic free-trade agreement with EFTA

Significant milestone in Thailand's trade history as its first FTA with European countries

Pichai Naripthaphan, Thailand's minister of commerce, on Friday announced the successful conclusion of negotiations on the Thailand-EFTA Free Trade Agreement following two years of talks, marking a significant milestone in Thailand's trade history as its first FTA with European countries.

Pichai confirmed that the EFTA (European Free Trade Association) Secretariat had officially declared the agreement complete, with negotiations covering a wide range of topics, agreed upon by the heads of delegations from member countries Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein.

This agreement aligns with the Thai government's strategy to enhance trade relations and open new export opportunities while attracting foreign investment.

The Ministry of Commerce, through the Department of International Trade Negotiations, successfully addressed 15 key issues during negotiations, including trade in goods, rules of origin, trade facilitation, sanitary regulations, intellectual property, and sustainable development practices.

Pichai highlighted that the negotiations began in 2022 and took two years to complete, reflecting the government's commitment to expanding trade and investment through the establishment of FTAs, which aim to reduce barriers and build confidence in the business sector.

Notably, this FTA represents a groundbreaking chapter for Thailand, given that it is the country's first such agreement with a coalition of European nations. It adheres to modern trade principles focusing on sustainable development, paving the way for future trade discussions with major partners like the European Union.

After these developments, the results of the negotiations will be presented to the Cabinet for approval, aiming for a formal signing of the agreement during Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra's attendance at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, in January 2025.

Subsequently, the government will seek approval from the National Assembly to ratify the agreement, which aims to deliver tangible benefits to the Thai economy swiftly.

For the period from January to October 2024, the value of Thailand's trade with EFTA reached US$10.29 billion, accounting for 2.03% of Thailand's total global trade, with significant exports including gems, jewellery, and processed seafood.

Major imports from EFTA included machinery, jewellery, and medical products. Pichai concluded by expressing gratitude to the teams involved in the negotiations, framing this agreement as a "New Year's gift" to the Thai people and economy, and reaffirming his confidence in the ongoing improvement of the nationÂ’s trade and investment landscape.

People urged not to criticize PM for not visiting southern flood victims

The deputy leader of United Thai Nation Party, Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana, has urged people to stop criticizing the government today, over alleged double standards in the treatment of the flooding in southern provinces.

For the past week social media have been flooded with criticism of Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra’s perceived failure to visit flood victims in Yala, Pattani, Narathiwat and Songkhla, while having visited such victims in the other regions.

When questioned by a reporter, the prime minister denied that she is ignoring the southern flood problem, adding that her husband is a southerner.

    File photo: Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana

In defence of the government, Thanakorn claimed that several ministries have sent people, equipment and materials to help southern flood victims, adding that troops, in particular, have been helping to evacuate victims to safer places.

The Energy Ministry has ordered fuel and gas to be sent to the south, after it was reported that supplies would run out in a few days because road access to the provinces has become very difficult, he said.

Advisor to the prime minister and former ‘red-shirt’ leader Natthawut Saikua claimed in his Facebook post today that neither the government nor the prime minister are biased against southerners.

He claimed that the prime minister’s visits to Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai, which coincided with the massive flooding in four southern provinces, was planned before the flooding occurred.

Although the prime minster has not visited south, he said that she has instructed her ministers to visit the provinces to help flood victims.

The prime minister mentioning that her husband is a southerner, to indicate her concern over the flooding in the region, should not be used to paint the prime minister in a negative light, added Natthawut.

Severe flooding in northern regions in September and October was followed this month by floods that have submerged large areas of five southern provinces.

In other relief measures, eight state-run banks and financial institutions have restructured 94 billion baht in debt owed by 740,000 flood-hit borrowers.

    - The GSB has introduced a debt moratorium for small borrowers and SMEs while lowering interest rates.
    - The Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives has extended repayment periods, suspended repayments for farmers, and exempted them from penalty interest.
    - The Export-Import Bank of Thailand has rolled over loans for exporters and importers.
    - The SME Bank has suspended repayments and approved emergency loans to rehabilitate flood-affected businesses.
    - The Thai Credit Guarantee Corporation has introduced measures to assist clients and debtors.
    - The Islamic Bank of Thailand has suspended repayments and waived penalties for flood-hit debtors.
    - Krungthai Bank has lowered repayments, reduced interest rates, and approved emergency loans for home and asset repairs, as well as boosting liquidity.

Thai cross-border trade jumps 6.18%, boosted by fruit to China

Commerce Ministry announces trade worth 1.514 trillion baht in first 10 months of 2024, sets target of 2 trillion baht per year by 2030

Thailand's cross-border trade jumped 6.18% in the first 10 months of 2024 compared to the same period last year, Commerce Minister Pichai Naripthaphan said on Sunday.

Border trade from January-October was worth 1.514 trillion baht, with exports at 872.043 billion baht (+5.64%) and imports at 642.794 billion baht (+6.92%), resulting in a trade surplus of 229.248 billion baht, said Pichai, speaking after a meeting at the Mae Sai customs checkpoint in Chiang Rai,

The ministry has set a target of 2 trillion baht per year in cross-border trade by 2030.

Currently, 86 of Thailand’s 94 border checkpoints are open, while neighbouring countries have opened 73 checkpoints.

Pichai said the ministry was working with various agencies and businesses to boost trade gateways to neighbouring countries, including Chiang Rai’s Chiang Saen Port on the Mekong River – a major hub for fruit exports to China.

The Port Authority and private sector are assessing the feasibility of investing to expand the port, with the Department of Foreign Trade following up on progress.

Chiang Saen Port, a trade hub with Laos, Myanmar, and China, saw trade rise 21.53% to 5.962 billion baht from January-October compared to the same period last year. Exports through the port were worth 5.65 billion baht and imports 312 million baht, a huge trade surplus built on fruit shipments to China. In July, Beijing opened its Guanlei checkpoint in Yunnan to expedite Thai fruit imports on the Mekong.

Pichai also urged import-export companies to liaise closely with the government to ensure smooth trade.

"I encourage private businesses that need support to prepare information for the government, so we can offer support in resolving trade obstacles,” he said.

He also addressed the issue of substandard imports flooding the Thai market.

"The prime minister appointed me as chair of a committee managing and resolving issues related to goods and businesses that violate the law. I have instructed Customs authorities to control the entry of substandard goods into the country to prevent problems that could impact the public.”

Thailand protests against Myanmar’s navy firing at Thai fishing boats

Thailand protested against an incident involving Myanmar’s navy firing on Thai fishing vessels, Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra said on Dec 1, after one fisherman drowned, two were injured and dozens were detained from one of the boats.

Paetongtarn Shinawatra, Prime Minister of Thailand, posted on Facebook expressing her concerns regarding the incident on November 30, where a Thai fishing boat and its crew were detained and brought ashore by Myanmar authorities. She has instructed relevant agencies, including the Royal Thai Navy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to coordinate with Myanmar to assist the Thai crew members urgently. According to the latest updates, communication with Myanmar has been initiated through military and diplomatic channels, and the situation is being closely monitored.

Additionally, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned the Myanmar Ambassador to Thailand for a meeting on December 2, 2024, to formally address Thailand's concerns over the incident.

The Prime Minister extended her condolences to the families of the deceased and the injured and expressed her concern for all the affected crew members. She assured that Thai authorities are working closely with relevant parties to ensure their well-being and to expedite their safe return home.

Paetongtarn questioned claims that the fishing boats had intruded into Myanmar’s territorial waters when Myanmar’s navy opened fire on the vessels.

The Thai Defence Ministry earlier said two of 15 Thai fishing vessels were fired on when they were between 7.4km and 10.6km inside Myanmar’s territorial waters near the southern Thai province of Ranong.

“It is inconclusive,” Paetongtarn said when reporters asked whether Thai fishing boats had encroached on Myanmar’s territorial waters.

“We don’t support violence, whatever the circumstances,” she said, adding that Thailand was seeking more details on the incident and a quick release of four Thai nationals who were among the 31 fishermen detained.

Myanmar’s junta did not immediately respond to a telephone request for comment.

Thai Defence Minister Phumtham Wechayachai said a letter protesting against the use of force was sent to Myanmar through a local border mechanism, demanding clear details about what happened and a quick return of the Thai boat and crew detained.

Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa also issued a letter of concern over the incident to the Myanmar government and summoned the Myanmar ambassador for a meeting on Dec 2, seeking clarification about what happened and a quick release of the four Thai nationals.

Myanmar has been in crisis since 2021 when the military seized power, toppling an elected government and sparking an armed rebellion by crushing protests with lethal force.

Thai FM summons Myanmar envoy over fatal fishing boat attack today

Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa said yesterday that his ministry has issued a letter of concern over an incident at sea and has invited Myanmar's ambassador, U Chit Swe, for a meeting to protest over Myanmar navy patrol boats attacking a flotilla of Thai fishing vessels in waters off Ranong province on Saturday.

The incident left one Thai national dead, and the Myanmar navy took 31 fishing vessel crew members into custody, including four Thai nationals.

“We will emphasise to him that Myanmar must take responsibility for the incident, because their personnel used excessive force,” Maris said.

The meeting will also seek the swift release of the four Thai nationals and a clarification of what happened.

If the Thai fishing vessels in question had strayed into Myanmar waters, Maris said there are established rules of engagement to address such situations, rather than resorting to opening fire.

He expressed confidence that the Thai fishing crew will be released soon, citing ‘positive signs’. Both countries maintain good relations and the Thai side has continued negotiations through appropriate channels, he added.

Myanmar regrets loss of life in attack on fishing flotilla – Maris

Myanmar has expressed regret over the death of a Thai national in a recent incident, in which Myanmar patrol boats attacked a flotilla of Thai fishing vessels off Ranong province, according to Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa.

Myanmar's ambassador, U Chit Swe, conveyed the message after being summoned to meet the Thai Foreign Ministry’s director general of the East Asian Department yesterday.

The ambassador promised to follow up on developments regarding the issue.

Following the attack, the Myanmar side detained 31 fishing vessel crew members, including four Thais. They are believed to be held on Zedetkyi Island, pending questioning.

“We have also sought permission for Thai officials to visit the four detained fishermen and hope for their release as soon as possible,” Maris said, adding that the Thai ambassador to Myanmar has been assigned to discuss the matter with Myanmar’s permanent secretary for foreign affairs in Naypyidaw.

Maris has personally conveyed these concerns to his Myanmar counterpart.

Meanwhile, Maj Gen Thanathip Sawangsaeng, the Defence Ministry spokesman, said yesterday that the Thai-Myanmar Border Committee is expected to meet in the next few days in Kawthaung, Myanmar, when the four Thais are expected to be returned.

Cabinet approves 38.58 billion baht for rice farmers’ subsidies

Agriculture minister says the 1,000-baht-per-rai subsidy should be delivered to eligible farmers within this year

The Cabinet on Tuesday earmarked 38.58 billion baht to cover subsidies for 4.68 million rice-farming households nationwide this year, Agriculture Minister Narumon Pinyosinwat said.

She said the funds would be spent on providing a 1,000 baht per rai subsidy, capped at 10 rai per family.

Once the budget is formally approved by the Cabinet, the Agricultural Extension Department will send the list of eligible farmers to the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives to remit the money within this year, Narumon said.

To be eligible, farmers should have registered their farms with the Agricultural Extension Department. Narumon said the names of the eligible farmers will be visible on the department’s website.

As for new farmers, she said, they can contact the agricultural offices in their districts to register Narumon said farmers could check their names from the department’s website.

New farmers, who have not registered, can contact the agricultural office of their districts for the registration, she added.

Bt5 billion emergency fund sought to help flood victims in southern region

The Interior Minister is seeking an emergency budget of about five billion baht from the Cabinet today, to help flood victims in southern provinces.

Pasakorn Boonyalak, director-general of the Public Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department, said that households which have sustained damage from flooding in all provinces will each receive a maximum of 9,000 baht in compensation.

He said that officials will assess the damage sustained and then determine the amount of compensation that each affected household will receive.

In Songkhla province, more than 230,000 households in 16 districts have been affected by flooding. Nine people are reported to have died, mainly due to drowning.

Digital Economy and Society Minister Prasert Chantararuangthong said today that Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra has not yet decided when to visit flood victims in southern provinces yet, but has assigned him to go there.

He said that his responsibility is to make sure that telecommunications there are working properly, after some telco infrastructure suffered damage during the flooding.

He said that he has instructed the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission, and private telecom service providers, to conduct a survey of communications systems and to fix the damage.

Thai-European free trade deal to bring much-needed boost to economy

Recently concluded agreement will go a long way to increasing Thailand’s competitiveness on the global stage, Thai Chamber of Commerce says

The Thai Chamber of Commerce (TCC) believes that the recently concluded Thailand-EFTA Free Trade Agreement (FTA) will serve as a key economic booster for Thailand.

Thailand’s Commerce Ministry announced last week that the EFTA (European Free Trade Association) Secretariat had officially declared the agreement complete after two years of talks, with the signing of the FTA expected to take place in January.

The ministry said negotiations covering 15 key issues, including trade in goods, rules of origin, trade facilitation, sanitary regulations, intellectual property, and sustainable development practices, were agreed upon by the heads of delegations from member countries Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein.

“The Thai Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade of Thailand firmly believe that the FTA with EFTA will be another important step in enhancing Thailand’s economy while strengthening the country’s global competitiveness and capabilities,” TCC chairman Sanan Angubolkul said on Monday.

He said the trade deal with EFTA would promote international trade and investments in a sustainable manner, creating new opportunities for Thai entrepreneurs.

Sanan also believed that this historic deal would help drive the conclusion of Thailand-European Union FTA within either 2025 or 2026.

The TCC reported that trade value between Thailand and EFTA members in the first 10 months of this year grew 23.22% year on year, with US$3.78 billion worth of exports and $6.5 billion worth of imports, and amounted to 2.03% of Thailand’s total international trade.

Key export products to EFTA members include jewellery, seafood, rice and machinery, while key import products include gemstones, live aquatic animals, and processed foods.

Trade value between Thailand and the EU in 2023 grew 1.75% year on year to $41.71 billion, with $21.96 billion worth of exports and $19.75 worth of imports. The EU is Thailand’s 5th largest trade partner following ASEAN, China, the United States and Japan.

Thailand to harness Airbus’ expertise in becoming aviation hub

Transport Ministry to work with Europe’s Airbus to expand aviation infrastructure and raise safety standards

Thailand’s Transport Ministry is to work closely with European aerospace corporation Airbus to develop aviation infrastructure and enhance air safety standards to achieve its ambition to turn the country into an aviation hub in the region.

Minister Suriya Jungrungreangkit on Tuesday welcomed Anand Stanley, president and head of Airbus Asia-Pacific, who led a group of Airbus experts in a meeting at the ministry’s headquarters in Bangkok.

After the session, Suriya said Thai officials and Airbus discussed collaboration to expand the capacity of aviation infrastructure to support the future growth of the aviation industry, as well as enhance Thailand's aviation safety standards to international levels.

The minister underscored that the government was committed to pushing the country to become a regional aviation hub, with a target of welcoming 250 million passengers per year at airports of Airports of Thailand Plc (AOT) by 2032.

The Transport Ministry is also planning to build the new Andaman Airport on the west coast of the Southern region, aiming to accommodate 22.5 million passengers per year in both the long- and short-haul markets, he said.

Suriya said Airbus had earlier signed an MOU with the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) on environmental projects, including the measurement, reporting and verification (MRV) of aviation greenhouse gas emissions, and the use of sustainable aviation fuel.

“Airbus has supported efforts to enhance human resource capacity, organise seminars, and provide technical assistance to the aviation industry and airlines in Thailand,” said Suriya. “Additionally, the company has contributed funding and sent aviation experts to assist in developing CAAT's aviation regulatory systems to meet international standards.”

For his part, Stanley expressed confidence that Airbus' expertise and innovations would benefit Thailand's aviation sector. He emphasised the importance of continued collaboration to elevate Thailand's aviation safety standards to international levels. Furthermore, Airbus looks forward to exploring other areas of cooperation to pave the way for a sustainable future in aviation, he added.

Thai business sector protests against 400-baht minimum wage plan

Three key business agencies will file a formal protest against the nationwide wage plan, saying it could hinder economic recovery

Thailand’s three major business agencies will submit their formal protest to the government on Friday, opposing the plan to increase the daily minimum wage for unskilled workers to 400 baht nationwide.

The decision was reached on Wednesday by representatives of the Thai Chamber of Commerce (TCC), the Federation of Thai Industries and the Thai Banker Association, who are part of the Joint Standing Committee on Commerce, Industry and Banking.

After the meeting, TCC chairman Sanan Angubolkul, who also chaired the meeting, said the committee resolved to submit an open letter to all relevant government agencies to oppose the government’s plan to enforce the 400 baht rate across the country.

The Pheu Thai-led government has announced that it will raise the daily minimum wage to 400 baht nationwide by January 1. However, the tripartite wage committee has not yet resolved to adopt the same minimum wage rate of 400 baht. The panel comprises representatives of employers, employees and the Labour Ministry.

Initially, the wage committee set different wage rates for various provinces, based mainly on the cost of living in those areas. During the short-lived Srettha Thavisin government, the wage committee adopted rates based on business types and business zones in the provinces. Later, Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra’s government announced in September that it would implement the same 400-baht rate nationwide.

Sanan said the committee resolved to ask the government to review its decision, despite the announcement of its policy. He argued that the 400-baht rate would hinder economic recovery, which is still ongoing and not fully achieved.

The joint committee also stated that the prime minister does not have the authority to set the daily minimum wage, as it should be decided by the tripartite wage panel based on suitability.

Same-sex marriages can be registered nationwide from Jan 22

Deputy interior minister says district offices nationwide are ready to register same-sex couples from the minute the law is promulgated

The Interior Ministry is fully prepared to register same-sex marriages across Thailand when the Equal Marriage Act goes into effect on January 22, Deputy Interior Minister Theerarat Samrejwanich said.

Theerarat confirmed on Wednesday that all 50 district offices in Bangkok and 878 district offices nationwide are ready to facilitate the registration of same-sex marriages. She hailed the act’s enforcement as a significant milestone for Thai society in recognising and endorsing equality for diverse sexual orientations.

She also extended her best wishes to same-sex couples who will register their marriages, hoping they build happy, harmonious family lives together.

Same-sex marriages can be registered nationwide from Jan 22

The Equal Marriage Act’s journey spanned four years, and two government administrations, to finally reach this point. The House of Representatives passed the bill on March 27, with 400 votes in favour and 10 against. The bill later received the Senate’s approval on June 18 and is now set to become law on January 22, 2025.

Myanmar releases Thai fishermen and seized fishing boat

Myanmar has freed 31 fishing vessel crew, including four Thai nationals who were taken into custody after Myanmar patrol boats attacked a flotilla of Thai fishing vessels off Ranong province last weekend.

They were handed over yesterday in Kawthaung, Myanmar, and are expected to return to Thailand’s Ranong province today.

They have already completed Myanmar's immigration process and the Third Naval Area Command declared in its Facebook page that they are all safe, sharing images of the crew boarding a ship, identified as Sor Charoenchai 8, which was seized by Myanmar during the attack.

The attack on November 30 resulted in the death of one Thai national.

Meanwhile, Thai Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nikorndej Balankura said that officials from the Consular Department will travel to Ranong to receive the fishing crew, the release of whom followed tense negotiations, including the summoning of the Myanmar ambassador to Thailand by the Foreign Ministry to explain the incident.

Thai authorities, including the Defence Ministry and the Navy, accused Myanmar of using excessive force and not adhering to the rules of engagement.

They say that, if Myanmar believed the Thai fishing vessels were operating in its waters, it should have fired warning shots.

Inspections of vessels that escaped the attack, however, revealed bullet holes in the captain’s cabin, indicating that the no such warning shots were fired.

Govt meets revenue target in first month of fiscal 2025

Finance ministry reports more than 205 billion baht collected in October, slightly higher than the target

The government’s revenue collection in October, the first month of fiscal year 2025, exceeded the target by 0.1% or by 171 million baht, the Fiscal Policy Office (FPO) reported.

Pornchai Thiraveja, FPO director-general, in his capacity as the Finance Ministry’s spokesman, said on Thursday that the government had collected 205.34 billion baht in net revenue in October, which was slightly higher than the target.

Net revenue collection in October is, however, lower than for the same period of last year by 22.92 billion baht, he said.

The FPO reported revenue collection of the three tax departments in October 2024 as follows:

    1. The Revenue Department collected 146.6 billion baht, 1.4% higher than target and 4.59 billion baht higher than the previous year.

    2. The Excise Department collected 35.72 billion baht, 2.2% higher than target but 6.98 billion baht lower than the previous year.

    3. The Customs Department collected 9.97 billion baht, 5% higher than the target but 238 million baht lower than the previous year.

The Finance Ministry expects that the government's net revenue collection for fiscal 2025 will be close to the target, based on the improving economic trends driven by various factors, said Pornchai.

These factors include the growth in public consumption, state and private investment, and the continuous expansion of the tourism sector, as well as various economic stimulus measures implemented by the government.

Additionally, improvements in revenue collection efficiency will be key factors contributing to the increase in the government's net revenue, he said.

Thailand’s financial balance in October 2024 stood at 270.56 billion baht, with net revenue of 205.09 billion baht and total budget disbursement of 586.92 billion baht.

Buddha’s tooth relic arrives in Bangkok

China temporarily transfers the relic to Thailand as the two countries celebrate half a century of diplomatic relations

The Buddha’s tooth relic has been brought from China to Thailand to commemorate His Majesty the King’s 6th Cycle Birthday Anniversary and celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations between Thailand and China.

A special flight from China carrying the relic arrived at the Military Airport in Bangkok on Wednesday (December 4), at 12.20pm. The relic was then transported through Yaowarat and Ratchadamnoen roads before being enshrined at Sanam Luang.

Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra presided over the reception ceremony.

This historic transfer of the Sacred Tooth, a revered Buddhist relic, was facilitated by the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Royal Thai Embassy in Beijing in close coordination with the Chinese government.

The process involved extensive preparations, including diplomatic arrangements, visits between the two nations, and a formal agreement between the governments.

The Thai and Chinese governments jointly agreed to transfer the relic from Lingguang Temple in Beijing for a 73-day period, from December 4 to February 14.

The relic honours His Majesty the King on his auspicious 72nd birthday on July 28, 2024, and marks the 50th anniversary of Thai-Chinese diplomatic relations in 2025.

The sacred tooth relic is a treasured artefact of China and revered by Buddhists worldwide.

The Chinese government has previously allowed the relic to be temporarily enshrined abroad on six occasions, transferring it to Thailand for the first time in 2002 to celebrate His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej's 75th birthday, when it was enshrined at Phutthamonthon in Nakhon Pathom for 76 days.

The public can pay their respects to the relic at Sanam Luang from today (December 5) to February 14 daily between 7am and 8pm.

To facilitate access, the government has arranged public buses and boats, while officials have provided flowers and postcards with prayer for worship, ensuring pilgrims need not bring their own offerings.

Thai exports of rice increase by 20% from January to October

Department of Foreign Trade hopeful that rice exports could top 10 million tonnes in 2024 but warns total might drop in 2025

Thailand exported 8.35 million tonnes of rice between January and October this year, an increase of 20% over the same period last year, the Commerce Ministry reported on Thursday.

The value of exported rice in those 10 months also rose 40% year on year to US$5.41 billion or 191.03 billion baht, Arada Fuangtong, director-general of the Department of Foreign Trade, said.

White rice is responsible for 62% of the total exports or 5.18 million tonnes, followed by jasmine rice at 1.37 million tonnes, steamed rice at 1.01 million tonnes, fragrant rice at 0.54 million tonnes, sticky rice at 0.23 million tonnes and brown rice at 0.02 million tonnes.

Arada said Thailand’s five biggest export markets are Indonesia, which imported 1.12 million tonnes of rice, followed by Iraq (0.95 million tonnes), South Africa (0.72 million tonnes), the United States (0.7 million tonnes), and the Philippines (0.49 million tonnes).

The department has set the target of rice exports in 2024 at 9 million tonnes, said Arada, adding that by combining the 10-month tally and export applications filed in November, total rice exports from January to November are anticipated to have already reached 9.27 million tonnes.

“There is a chance that rice exports this year could reach the 10 million tonnes milestone, as demand in overseas markets is expected to increase during the Christmas and New Year holidays,” she said. “Some importers might also increase their orders to prepare for the Chinese New Year in late January.”

The Department of Foreign Trade estimates that rice exports in 2025 will contract due to India’s lifting of export restrictions, which were implemented to increase domestic stock.

“The department will discuss measures to boost rice exports in 2025 with the Thai Rice Exporters Association, including plans to secure orders from new markets to compete with India and other countries,” Arada said.

Thai govt stalls for time as tensions grow over territory dispute

Opponents threaten protests unless MOU 44 on overlapping claims area talks with Cambodia is scrapped

The Pheu Thai-led government has yet to establish a Joint Technical Committee (JTC) for talks with Cambodia on their territory dispute under a contentious Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), amid rising domestic opposition.

Nationalist groups led by Warong Dechgitvigrom, leader of the royalist Thai Pakdee Party, last month presented a petition of over 100,000 signatures to Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra demanding cancellation of MOU 44 on the overlapping claims area.

The Palang Pracharath Party, led by Gen Prawit Wongsuwan, is also campaigning against the MOU, arguing it would cede the island of Koh Kut in the Gulf of Thailand to Cambodia. The overlapping claims area is also thought to contain significant reserves of oil and gas.

Meanwhile, Sondhi Limthongkul, former leader of the People's Alliance for Democracy, has threatened to reignite street protests against the Pheu Thai government, which he accuses of failing to protect Thai sovereignty. Sondhi vowed to submit a letter to the prime minister on December 9, demanding that MOU 44 be terminated.

On Cambodia's side, political tensions are equally high, with groups rallying to claim Ko Kut from Thailand and pushing for a case at the International Court of Justice.

Defence Minister and Deputy PM Phumtham Wechayachai is tasked with leading Thailand’s negotiations as chair of the JTC.

Amid rising tensions, Phumtham met with Navy Commander Adm Chiraphol Wongwit on November 25–26 for talks on the Thai Navy’s planned 2025 military exercises around Ko Kut.

The exercises were revised to exclude the sensitive location, sparking speculation of political intervention. The Navy commander insisted the change was part of routine military operations and unrelated to political developments. However, opponents of the MOU expressed alarm that the exercise had been shifted away from Ko Kut, over which Thailand has full sovereign authority.

The government has apparently opted to delay formation of the JTC to minimise conditions that could spark protests, aiming to ease pressure on the Paetongtarn administration.

However, the territory negotiations with Cambodia remain a major challenge for the government. Ensuring transparency and prioritising national interests will be crucial for the Pheu Thai government to maintain long-term political stability

No plan to increase VAT to 15% - PM

Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra confirmed today that the government has no plan to increase value-added tax to 15%.

On Wednesday, Finance Minister Pichai Chunhavajira said that the plan to increase VAT is just an idea being studied, noting that it is a worldwide trend.

He said that a previous government decided to increase VAT from 7% to 10%, but had to back down.

In her Facebook and X posts, the prime minister admitted, however, that the Finance Ministry is considering a comprehensive restructuring of the tax system, to ensure fairness, equality and the competitiveness of Thailand.

She also said that restructuring of the tax system, as in other countries, would normally be done on a step by step basis and can take over a decade.

The prime minister reiterated that the main policy of her government is to reduce the expenses of people and the public sector, while increasing the efficiency of the public sector and creating opportunities for people to earn more.

She offered an assurance that her government will proceed with tax restructuring cautiously and will take the views of all parties concerned into consideration.

Twenty-five years ago, VAT was originally set at 10%, but was reduced to 7%.

Attempts or even talks about increasing VAT from 7% to 10% by previous governments have met with strong resistance from the general public.

Phumtham seeks closer security ties with Sweden

In meeting with ambassador, defence minister hails progress in security and defence industry cooperation

Defence Minister Phumtham Wechayachai sought greater cooperation in areas such as cybersecurity, defence industry development and the exchange of regional security information during a meeting with Sweden’s Ambassador to Thailand, Anna Hammargren, on Friday (December 6).

Phumtham praised the longstanding and close relationship between Thailand and Sweden, spanning over 156 years, which has led to collaboration in various dimensions, including defence policies.

He emphasised the significant progress in security and defence industry cooperation, as well as the advancement of military relations between the two nations. This includes exchanges of visits by military commanders and personnel, technology transfer, and the enhancement of military equipment capabilities.

The minister also highlighted the potential for integrating modern technologies, such as AI, into military operations.

Phumtham expressed confidence that the Swedish ambassador would effectively continue fostering collaboration between the defence ministries of both nations.

He also thanked Sweden for its interest in collaborating with the Ministry of Defence on the procurement of advanced fighter aircraft. He welcomed the inclusion of Sweden’s Gripen fighter jet as one of the options meeting the requirements of the Royal Thai Air Force. The Gripen’s compatibility with current systems and alignment with budgetary and military needs were noted.

The defence procurement project aims not only to strengthen and modernise the military but also to ensure cost-effectiveness and deliver tangible benefits to the nation and its people, he said.

Hammargren thanked Phumtham, who also serves as deputy prime minister, for the warm reception. She praised the strong relationship and cooperation between the two countries and voiced her support for the continued development of security collaboration.
