    Domestic airfares are way up!

Just looked up the cost of a domestic flight and got a severe case of sticker Shock. Like 300+ percent up from a few months ago.

I checked various routes to make sure it wasn't some kind of anomaly but they were all the same.

I know inflation is affecting the cost of many things but this is hyper inflation. WTF is going on?

I flew several times between the middle of December and the middle of January and did not notice a big jump. Just high season fares.

Checking just now using Nok that I prefer. BKK/CNR 3,000 return. But Phuket is over 4,000B return, so they have taken a jump.

    Nope

Flying soon, purchased the tickets last week (Thai Smile) and hardly any price change over the past year.

I don't know about last week but go check the fare today and see what's happened. The flight I looked up today was 3900 baht. Last time I travelled in late December it was 1250.....

^ UK thailand seems to be up about 60-70% over pre-Covid. Airline capacity reductions and clawback of losses I think

    ditto.
Depends how early you book and what seats are left on the flight.

^ i havent looked since seeing 1300 quid each on skyscanner in December for the school half term we had last week here. Joe's are off this week, so thought maybe the op's fare hike coincided with that

I should add. We don’t pay anything but taxes for domestic tickets.

I wonder if they will give some of their profits back to the government that bailed them out just a short while ago?

Hmm currently they are code sharing with QATAR so no direct flights. They have said the passenger numbers were not viable until the tourist volume increases, it appears they are waiting out this summer to see what happens.

Eva and Thai are still going direct from Heathrow

this from the nation: No London-Bangkok British Airways flights until 2023

Last summer I flew direct to Gatwick on Scoot. I can't say it was a wonderful experience but the price seemed fair. The flight was 100% full. They are not flying that route this year. No demand, apparently.

That was the last from BA but checking around Nov-23 has been mentioned IF demand picks up - is that OK?

We just pay the tax on domestic flight using our air miles we accrue flying with Thai BKK/LHR . Only domestic flights we take about 4 times a year with Thai Smile BKk/HDY.

The good thing about some of these plans is that you can share miles with a “nominee” so they don’t have to pay anything for domestic flights.
