Nikki Haley withdraws from race to become Republican presidential nominee

It comes shortly after Trump won 14 out of 15 states on Super Tuesday.

    OF
    Marie Lagoni Pedersen

    Karen Klærke

Nikki Haley drops out of running as the Republican presidential nominee.

She said this in a speech on Wednesday at 10 a.m. local time - that is, at 4 p.m. Danish time.

"The time has come to suspend my campaign," she said.

The announcement comes on top of Election Day Super Tuesday in the US, where a number of states have voted in the primaries, which resulted in her opponent Donald Trump making a big clean sheet.

Trump has been declared the winner in 14 of the 15 states, while Nikki Haley is listed for one victory in the small state of Vermont on the US east coast.

Although I will no longer be a candidate, I will not stop using my vote for the things I believe in,

    NIKKI HALEY
Although Haley won only one of 15 states during Super Tuesday, she received as much as a third of the vote in several places.

Haley was the last opponent for Trump in the race to become the Republican presidential nominee.

Haley doesn't give full support to Trump

In her speech on Wednesday, Haley said that even if she steps out of this year's presidential campaign in the United States, she will not stop using her vote.

"I said I wanted Americans to have their voices heard. I have done so. I have no regrets. And while I will no longer be a candidate, I will not stop using my vote for the things I believe in, she said.

In addition, she wishes Donald Trump good luck in the election campaign, but she does not give him her full support - the so-called "endorsement".

"It's now up to Donald Trump to earn the votes of voters inside and outside our party who didn't vote for him," said Haley, who hopes he does just that.

Biden and Trump keep the door open for Haley supporters

One of those who has already commented on Nikki Haley's departure from the presidential campaign is US President Joe Biden. And he is ready to welcome her followers with him.

"Donald Trump has made it clear that he is not interested in Nikki Haley's supporters. Let me be clear: There is room for them in my campaign," Biden said in a statement.

Donald Trump has also appeared on his own social media site Truth Social, CNN reports. Among other things, he writes that he invites Haley's supporters to join his movement.

"I want to thank my family, friends, and the Republican Party for helping create the most successful Super Tuesday in history, and invite all Haley supporters to be part of the most amazing movement in our country's history," Trump said in a statement.

US correspondent: Not much incentive to continue

Although several American media outlets noted that the victory for Haley in Vermont was surprising, it was definitively clear after Super Tuesday that it was game over for Haley. This was stated by DR's US correspondent Phillip Khokhar on Wednesday morning.

"There is little incentive to continue a campaign," he said.

It was last year that Haley announced that she would run for the Republican presidential nomination.

"It's time for a new generation of leadership," she said in her first campaign video back in January 2023.

Unknown Democratic candidate beat Biden: 'I'm very surprised

    OF
    Christian Holm

Incumbent US President Joe Biden has kept a clean sheet and won in all 15 states where Democrats have been in primaries this Super Tuesday.

But on the island of American Samoa, a U.S. territory in the Pacific, Biden found himself beaten by a previously unknown candidate.

His name is Jason Palmer and he has focused his campaign on giving a voice to the peoples of the American territories, which, according to him, are often overlooked in American politics.

91 votes have been cast. Palmer got 51, while Biden got 40. This is according to the local party association, according to the news agency Reuters.

Donald Trump at a rally: 'It will be a bloodbath if I am not elected'
    Sofie Dyjak

Former US President Donald Trump predicts that it will trigger a bloodbath in the US if he is not elected as the country's next president in the November elections.

He says this to a number of supporters in Ohio in the United States.

"If I'm not elected, it will trigger a bloodbath," Trump said as he spoke about Chinese imports and threats to the auto industry in the United States.

Among other things, he also said that if he does not win the election, he is unsure if there will ever be an election in the United States again.

Arizona revives age-old abortion law — even Republicans think it's too harsh

Donald Trump is trying to walk a middle ground, says former US correspondent.

Donald Trump says Arizona has gone too far in its abortion laws if the old law is to be followed in the future. Local courts now have the opportunity to challenge the Supreme Court decision.

The Germans gained South Jutland after the Battle of Dybbøl Mill, and Abraham Lincoln was re-elected President of the United States.

This is how far we have to go back in history to find the abortion law that the Supreme Court of the US state of Arizona is now reviving. The 1864 law only allows abortion for women if the mother's life is in danger, and makes it illegal to have an abortion in cases of rape and incest.

A violation of the law can lead to a sentence of up to four years in prison for the pregnant woman, according to NBC News.

The ruling is described as an earthquake in the Republican camp, said Barrett Marson, a Republican strategist in Arizona's largest city, Phoenix.

"Every time Republicans talk about abortion, they lose," he said.

    Important issue in important state

Although clinics continue to perform abortions until they are forced to stop, which according to the Associated Press could happen within weeks, it didn't take long for the two presidential candidates to comment on the ruling.

Arizona is a major battleground for Joe Biden and Donald Trump because Biden became the first Democrat in 24 years to win the state during the last election. According to the BBC, this happened with just about 10,000 votes.

But the abortion issue is also expected to be one of the central issues across the United States when Americans vote on who can put their name on the name tag on the front door of the White House after the November election.

President Joe Biden called the ruling a result of the extreme Republican agenda aimed at taking away women's freedom. But even for several Republicans, the Arizona ruling is too harsh.

READ ALSO:U.S. Supreme Court overturns historic abortion decision

Yesterday, Donald Trump said the Arizona ruling went too far, although he still believes it should be up to the states to decide on abortions. The issue of abortion was left to the states after Trump appointed several new Supreme Court justices as president, who subsequently overturned the 1973 Roe vs. Wade.

    Roe vs. Wade

    • The Roe versus Wade case is a 1973 U.S. Supreme Court case whose ruling ruled that existing state bans on abortion within the first three months of pregnancy were unconstitutional.
    • Thus, abortion was legalized in the United States.
    • The verdict was overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court on June 24, 2022.

Republican Kari Lake, a former television host and candidate for the party in Arizona, said she condemned the 1864 law's decision, which was "out of step" with Arizona residents.

Donald Trump tries the golden middle ground

Sandra Brovall, DR's culture correspondent and former US correspondent, told P1 Morgen that the decision was a bit of a gift for Biden.

That's because Democrats hope to win the presidential election on more lenient rules on abortion.

By contrast, Donald Trump has been going about the hot porridge on the abortion issue for a long time.

"He can see that he can't win an election on very restrictive abortion laws. Therefore, he is trying to walk a middle ground by saying that it is up to the states themselves to decide, says Sandra Brovall.

In March, a poll conducted by conservative Fox News found that 39 percent of voters in Arizona viewed the abortion issue as extremely important in the presidential campaign.

Several other states in the United States have since overturned Roe vs. Wade introduced more restrictive legislation on abortions.

Two weeks ago, the Florida Supreme Court ruled that the state could impose a six-week abortion limit.

Here is my WAG as to what will happen in November:
Biden will win the popular vote, Trump will win the Electoral votes. (the US is NOT a Democracy, it is a Republic as the conservatives love to point out)
The Republicans will win the Senate by a very narrow majority, the Democrats will win the House by a very narrow majority.

The result: Chaotic governance by the Executive branch, gridlock in the legislative branch, Trump will probably appoint another far-right Supreme, leading to SCOTUS decisions that are further than ever from mainstream opinions.

Buckle up folks, the next 5 years is going to be a wild ride!
