The working royal family, from left to right: the Duke of Kent, the Duchess of Gloucester, the Duke of Gloucester, Timothy Laurence, the Princess Royal, King Charles III, Queen Camilla, the Prince of Wales, the Princess of Wales, the Duchess of Edinburgh, Princess Alexandra and the Duke of Edinburgh.

King Charles and Queen Camilla have thanked those who joined the weekend’s celebrations, saying it was “the greatest possible coronation gift” as they pledged to rededicate their lives to service.

In a written message as the three days of festivities came to a close, the king said: “We thank you, each and every one.”

Official photographs marking the coronation were released by Buckingham Palace. The king was pictured in his full regalia – wearing the imperial state crown, holding the orb and sceptre with cross, and dressed in his regal purple tunic and robe of estate, seated in the throne room at Buckingham Palace.

The queen was pictured alongside him, and also in a solo portrait, wearing Queen Mary’s crown, with the train of her lengthy embroidered robe of estate spread in front of her.

The working royal family – the Prince and Princess of Wales, the Edinburghs, Princess Anne and V Adm Sir Timothy Laurence, the Duke of Kent, the Gloucesters and Princess Alexandra – were also photographed standing with the king and queen in the images, shot by Hugo Burnand.

In the message, the king said: “As the coronation weekend draws to a close, my wife and I just wanted to share our most sincere and heartfelt thanks to all those who have helped to make this such a special occasion.

“We pay particular tribute to the countless people who have given their time and dedication to ensuring that the celebrations in London, Windsor and further afield were as happy, safe and enjoyable as possible.

“To those who joined in the celebrations – whether at home, at street parties and lunches, or by volunteering in communities – we thank you, each and every one.

“To know that we have your support and encouragement, and to witness your kindness expressed in so many different ways has been the greatest possible coronation gift, as we now rededicate our lives to serving the people of the United Kingdom, the realms and Commonwealth. Charles R.”

^in fairness to Harry, he looks better now in his 30s than when he was in his 20s. It's the opposite for William. Will looked better in his teens to 20s than in his 30s - IMHO.

Is that ^ & ^^ the rumoured lover of Princess Di? Her horse trainer or something? Her brother also has/ had red hair, so being a ginger runs in her famuly. I think her elder sister (the one that Charles dated) - she also looked as if she had dark red/ auburn hair. But yes, it's more fun to speculate that Harry has a different dad.

    God save the King!

I've just watched a short docu abt Prince Philip's earlier years. He was a handsome dude in his youth. Of his 3 sons, I think Prince Edward resembles him most.

Re: Princess Anne, she wasn't much of a looker when she was younger, but she had style. She was a fashionista in her own way. Now that she's older, she's a dignified, handsome woman.

Same with Camilla, I think. She looks better now that she's older.

Coronation photo shows King Charles with Prince William and Prince George

The latest official Coronation photograph released by Buckingham Palace sends a strong message about the monarchy's next generations.

King Charles III is shown with his son Prince William and grandson Prince George, bringing together the King with those next in the line of succession.

The picture, taken in the palace Throne Room, is part of a set of official photographs taken by Hugo Burnand.

The King is seen wearing the Imperial State Crown and coronation robes.

In these formal portraits, he is pictured carrying the regalia from the Coronation - an orb and sceptre - while sitting in a throne made for the Coronation of Edward VII.

It is an image full of lavish symbolism and regal colours of gold, red and purple.

A second newly released photograph shows King Charles and Queen Camilla with their pages of honour and ladies in attendance.

It shows some of the members of the Queen's family who had roles in last Saturday's Coronation, including her sister Annabel Elliot, her grandsons Freddy Parker Bowles and Gus and Louis Lopes, as well as her great-nephew Arthur Elliot.

In a modern development, the Prince and Princess of Wales have released a YouTube video giving some candid shots of their preparations for the Coronation.

The short clip includes shots of Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis as they get ready to leave home for their grandfather's big day.

The first set of official Coronation photos showed the King and Queen, but also focused on the "working royals", highlighting those who will be at the centre of royal duties during the King's reign.

There are expected to be more official photographs released as part of a Cabinet Office initiative to provide public buildings with a photographic portrait of the King.

Prince Harry, Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, and her mother, Doria Ragland, were involved in a “near catastrophic” car chase that included paparazzi, according to their spokesperson.

In a statement to CNN on Wednesday, a spokesperson for the couple said the Tuesday night “car chase” came “at the hands of a run of highly aggressive paparazzi.”

“This relentless pursuit, lasting over two hours, resulted in multiple near collisions involving other drivers on the road, pedestrians and two NYPD [New York Police Department] officers.”

While the pair, who were married in 2018, each understand that “being a public figure comes with a level of interest from the public,” the statement to CNN said, “it should never come at the cost of anyone’s safety.”

The spokesperson also condemned the dissemination of any photographs involving the alleged incident, saying it would only encourage “a highly intrusive practice that is dangerous to all involved.”

The NYPD told ITK it has “no information” on the reported car chase.

Representatives for Harry and Meghan didn’t immediately return a request for comment.

Meghan was in New York on Tuesday to accept an honor called the Women of Vision Award.

Harry’s mother, Princess Diana, died in a car crash in 1997, when he was 12.

A 2006 investigation by London’s Metropolitan Police found that Diana’s driver was intoxicated and trying to evade paparazzi photographers before the crash.

The Guardian goes a little deeper.

Prince Harry and Meghan in ‘near catastrophic car chase with paparazzi’

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the duchess’s mother were involved in a “near catastrophic” two-hour car chase in New York after being followed by “a ring of highly aggressive paparazzi”, the duke’s spokesperson has said.

The incident is said to have happened after Prince Harry, Meghan and Doria Ragland attended an awards ceremony on Tuesday.

The three of them are said to have been subjected to a “relentless pursuit” involving half a dozen blacked-out vehicles.

There were no reported collisions, injuries or arrests, police said.

In a statement, their spokesperson said: “Last night, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex and Ms Ragland were involved in a near catastrophic car chase at the hands of a ring of highly aggressive paparazzi.

“This relentless pursuit, lasting over two hours, resulted in multiple near collisions involving other drivers on the road, pedestrians and two NYPD officers.

“While being a public figure comes with a level of interest from the public, it should never come at the cost of anyone’s safety.

“Dissemination of these images, given the ways in which they were obtained, encourages a highly intrusive practice that is dangerous to all in involved.”

Julian Phillips, NYPD deputy commissioner for public information, said: “On Wednesday evening, May 16, the NYPD assisted the private security team protecting the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. There were numerous photographers that made their transport challenging. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived at their destination and there were no reported collisions, summonses, injuries, or arrests in regard.”

Two New York police officials have said they do not believe the chase was “near catastrophic” and described a “bit of a chaotic scene” as the Sussexes tried to get back to their residence without being followed, Sky News reported.

Meghan received a Woman of Vision award on Tuesday as she and Harry made their first public appearance since the coronation of King Charles. In her speech, Meghan encouraged women to fight for equity as she accepted the award at the Ms. Foundation for Women’s annual gala.

The duke and duchess are said to accept there is a heightened level of attention when they are out at public events. In this case, they exited and entered the venue publicly and were photographed by paparazzi, according to a source.

But there were understood to be fears that the chase that ensued could have been fatal. According to one source, the chase involved half a dozen blacked-out vehicles with unidentified people driving recklessly and endangering the convoy and everyone around them.

Traffic violations were said to have included driving on the sidewalk, running red lights, reversing down a one-way street, driving while on the phone, driving while photographing and illegally blocking a moving vehicle.

It was claimed that individuals involved were confronted by uniformed police multiple times and sped off to continue the pursuit.

The family was staying at a private residence and did not want to compromise the security of their friend’s home, a source said. There is said to be footage taken from security along with other evidence to support the timeline and circumstances.

Pictures that have since appeared on social media show Harry, Meghan and her mother sitting in the back of a New York taxi, which a source said showed “a small glimpse at the defense and decoys required to end the harassment”.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams told reporters he hadn’t received a full briefing about the incident yet, but he called it “reckless and irresponsible” for anyone to be chasing people in vehicles in the densely populated city, and said that “two of our officers could have been injured”.

Buckingham Palace declined to comment on the reports.

Video footage obtained by the TMZ website appeared to show the Sussexes in a taxi, which was stationary with flashes apparently from cameras reflecting off the vehicle’s windows. Two police cars were immediately behind them, but when the taxi drove off, the police car went in a different direction.

The website reported that when the couple left the event, they got into an SUV followed by police, but then as it was followed, the SUV pulled over and the trio jumped in a New York taxi. “It looks like the cops tried to outwit the paps by driving in a different direction than the cab” TMZ said.

Pictures that have appeared on social media show Harry, Meghan and her mother sitting in the back of a New York taxi.

Harry has frequently spoken about his anger about press intrusion, which he blames for the death of his mother Diana, Princess of Wales, who was killed when her car crashed as it was followed by paparazzi in Paris in 1997. He has also spoken of his fears of history repeating itself, particularly in respect of media interest in his wife.

He is currently involved in numerous court cases in London, where he has accused papers of using unlawful methods to target him and his family.

He is also seeking to overturn a decision by the British government to take away his specialist police protection while in the UK, and to not permit him to pay for police protection on his visits back to Britain.

He is bringing a contested claim against Mirror Group Newspapers over allegations of unlawful information gathering.

Harry is also waiting for rulings over whether similar cases against publishers Associated Newspapers Limited and News Group Newspapers can continue.

A judgment is also expected over the duke’s libel claim against ANL – publisher of the Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday – over an article on his case against the Home Office.

In October 2020, the couple received an apology from a US news agency after drones were allegedly used to take “intrusive and illegal” pictures of their son, Archie. The couple launched legal action against the agency, claiming an individual had photographed Archie, who was then 14 months old, at their home in Los Angeles during lockdown.

In spring that year, Harry and Meghan were forced to build a fence when staying at the Los Angeles home of the actor and director Tyler Perry after photographers discovered where they were. Their security detail had been removed as they were no longer working royals.

While the NYPD said the incident was under investigation, police also played down the couple’s high-drama claims, describing a somewhat hectic yet overall controlled scene.

“The NYPD assisted the private security team protecting the Duke and Duchess of Sussex,” a spokesperson said in a statement Wednesday. “There were numerous photographers that made their transport challenging. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived at their destination and there were no reported collisions, summonses, injuries, or arrests in regard.”

A high-ranking source added that there were “no collision reports or 911 calls” and that the chase “definitely wasn’t two hours.”

Police sources, however, stressed that “at no time was there a high-speed chase” though two wheels of one vehicle did jump a curb at one point and two uniformed officers reported being “nearly missed” as the paparazzi took off.

Cab driver Sukcharn “Sonny” Singh said he was hired to take the royals away from the precinct, but the trip only lasted 10 minutes as they asked to be taken back to the station.

“I never felt like I was in danger. It wasn’t like a car chase in a movie,” Singh said. “They were quiet and seemed scared but it’s New York — it’s safe.”

After they went back to the station, sources said the couple made their own way home, which was just two blocks away from the precinct.

Their dramatic description drew backlash from several journalists and celebrities.

Former Fox talk show host turned podcaster Megyn Kelly called their claims “bulls–t” and said it was impossible for a two-hour car chase to happen in Manhattan.

British journalist Piers Morgan also weighed in on the incident, tweeting: “There was no 2-hour chase, their story is unraveling by the minute.”

King Charles meets Geri Horner 26 years after infamous kiss

It was a blast — make that smooch — from the past for King Charles and Spice Girls member Geri Horner.

Twenty-six years after the singer, 50, kissed the then-Prince of Wales, 74, in 1997, the pair shared a peck once again.

Horner reunited with Charles at the Prince’s Trust Awards at Buckingham Palace Tuesday night.

Ginger Spice hugged and smooched the monarch’s cheeks at the event while also musing over his role as the United Kingdom’s sovereign.

Horner famously had an intimate moment with Charles in 1997 when she and her fellow gal pals met him before a charity concert that was held for the Prince’s Trust.

Horner also touched Charles’ behind at the time.

At this week’s event, she told Charles that she was “very proud” of him and crowned him a “modern king,” according to the Daily Mail.

She was even spotted whispering some sweet nothings into his ear.

“When he was 28 years old, he started the Prince’s Trust,” the “Wannabe” crooner gushed about Charles Tuesday.

“He could have been out partying, instead he created this amazing organization – a modern king that believed in investing in the potential and possibility of people,” she said.

“I think the Prince’s Trust is testimony of that, and it works when we just lift each other up,” Horner added.

At this year’s ceremony, actors including Stanley Tucci and Stephen Graham presented awards.

The party was hosted by the English presenting duo Ant and Dec, with British Vogue editor-in-chief Edward Enninful and musician Nile Rodgers also in attendance.

Charles’ Prince’s Trust charitable foundation helps young people between 11 and 30 to develop important life skills, get ready for the working world and access job opportunities.

The king founded the organization in 1976, and the awards annually recognize young people who have empowered their local community.

Move over, politicians: King Charles III clocks poll rating to make elected reps blush

Maybe democracy was a bad idea after all?

King Charles III of the U.K.’s personal poll ratings have received a boost in the wake of his coronation early May.

According to new polling from Ipsos, 63 percent of Brits are now satisfied with the job he is doing as monarch — up 6 points since April. Only 17 percent said they disapproved of the king’s work.

In another apparent boost for the U.K.’s constitutional monarchy, satisfaction with Charles’ son — William, prince of Wales and the heir to the throne — has also risen. 73 percent of Brits said they were pleased with his work as a prince, while just 10 percent were unhappy with his record as next-in-line.

“Both King Charles and Prince William have seen improvements in their public satisfaction ratings after the Coronation, to levels that most politicians would be only too delighted to receive,” said Gideon Skinner, head of political research at Ipsos.

Indeed, the royal ratings eclipse those of the U.K.’s actual elected politicians in comparable studies. Just 31 percent of Brits had a favorable view of current Prime Minister Rishi Sunak according to the latest YouGov poll, while opposition leader Keir Starmer fares little better on 35 percent.

However, it isn’t all good news for Britain’s under-new-management monarchy.

Ipsos recorded that the percentage of Brits in favor of the country becoming a republic was up 3 points, to 28 percent of the country — the highest proportion recorded since the early 1990s.

PEOPLE Celebrates King Charles' Coronation in New Special Edition

King Charles and Queen Camilla's coronation was rich with history, heavy with fanfare, and above all, a family affair.

The crowning ceremony took place at London's Westminster Abbey on May 6, 2023 and marked the moment Charles finally wore the crown after 70 years of faithful service to his mother Queen Elizabeth.

In honor of the historic event, PEOPLE is publishing a special issue devoted to the royal celebration and the King and his life.

We look back at the coronation through a royal family album of glorious images, from the moment Charles was crowned and Prince Louis stole the show, to Charles and Camilla's balcony appearance to greet the thousands of people gathered outside Buckingham Palace.

There's also a short history of the long-held ritual of coronation, a look inside Charles' first few months as monarch and his journey to the throne.

"I think it's something that dawns on you with the most ghastly, inexorable sense," a 20-year-old Charles told BBC radio in 1969, the same year as his investiture to formally become the Prince of Wales. "I didn't suddenly wake up in my pram one day and say, 'Yippee.' But I think it just dawns on you, you know, slowly, that people are interested in one, and slowly you get the idea that you have a certain duty and responsibility."

The new issue tells Charles' story, from his childhood years, serving in the Royal Navy and his wedding to Princess Diana, through to his life as a father and the rekindling of his relationship with Camilla, 75.

Complete with early life pictures, the 100-page special offers an intimate portrait of the new monarch through a series of photos from his 74 years, including the first-ever photo released to the public.

Taken a month after Charles' November 1948 birth and shortly before his christening, the black and white image shows his mother, the then-Princess Elizabeth, gazing at him in a bassinet.

There's also details of his first haircut and close bond with the Queen Mother, as well as the KIng's love of outdoor pursuits such as skiing, sailing and polo — and even qualifying as a helicopter pilot.

Throughout the issue, insiders, royal historians and authors open up to PEOPLE about the monarch and share their unique insights.

King Charles and Queen Camilla Make Surprise Trip to Northern Ireland

On Wednesday afternoon, the King and Queen stepped out in Belfast for their historic first visit to Northern Ireland since their coronation on May 6. The trip is also the King and Queen's first official trip out of England since the crowning ceremony. The royal couple was all smiles when they arrived at Hazelbank Park in Newtownabbey to open the new Coronation Garden, created to celebrate their crowning and mark the start of a new green initiative for the community.

King Charles, 74, and Queen Camilla, 75, had the honor of opening the gates and met designers behind the new space, landscaped with the same sustainable principles the King and Queen employ.

“They were wonderful – I got to spend a little bit of time with them, we went into the quiet garden with the water dancing and they were asking me where the plants came from, the idea behind the design, and they couldn’t have been nicer,” garden designer Diarmuid Gavin told The Independent of his time with Charles and Camilla, who are known to share a love of gardening and country life.

The royals checked out the garden from the pavilion balcony, bright with Irish wildflowers, topiary and conical trees. Then, they met with school children participating in coronation-themed projects, community volunteers who pitched in during The Big Help Out as well as recipients of The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, The King’s Award for Enterprise and The Duke of Edinburgh Bursary.

The King and Queen couldn’t help but laugh during their final duty — cutting into a crown-shaped cake! The decadent confection looked like the historic St. Edward Crown, which the Archbishop of Canterbury used to crown Charles on May 6.

Queen Camilla Will Receive A New Title When Prince William Becomes King

Royal titles, though often quite prescriptive and handed down through generations, have been subject to a little flexibility in recent years.

Famously, when Kate Middleton (now the Princess of Wales) was pregnant with her first child, Queen Elizabeth II changed the rules of succession, to allow for any of their heirs to have equal right to the throne, regardless of whether they were male or female, meaning that Princess Charlotte could become a monarch ahead of younger brother Louis.

King Charles II also made a request before his coronation, at Westminster Abbey on May 6. He asked that his wife would be crowned Queen Camilla, rather than Queen Consort.

Many have since asked what this would mean in the event that Queen Camilla outlives Charles.

Despite speculation, she will not retain the Queen Camilla title in the event of Charles' death.

If she is alive to see Prince William succeed his father to become the ruling monarch, she will become Queen Dowager, as the widow of the departed King.

According to Metro, this title was first used by Queen Adelaide in 1830.

The only recent example we have of a Queen Consort outliving their partner is Queen Elizabeth II's mother Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon.

When King George VI died, she became known as the Queen Mother.

King Charles arrives in Romania for first trip abroad since being crowned

King Charles III arrived in Bucharest on Friday afternoon, June 2, where he was welcomed by president Klaus Iohannis at the presidential Cotroceni Palace. He will stay in Romania until June 6 and will also travel to the Transylvanian countryside, including one of his favorite local villages, Viscri.

This is King Charles’ first overseas trip since being crowned on May 6.

According to BoardingPass, King Charles arrived in Romania in a private aircraft that landed at the Baneasa airport on Friday afternoon. He is not accompanied by Queen Camilla on this trip, which is largely private.

During the official welcoming ceremony in Bucharest, the British monarch saluted the Honor Guard Unit in Romanian.

“Your Majesty, welcome back to Romania, the country for which, over time, your majesty has developed a special attachment. We are honored that the first visit abroad since your majesty’s coronation takes place in Romania,” president Klaus Iohannis said in a joint statement with King Charles.

He also thanked the British monarch for promoting Romania worldwide and for supporting cultural and environmental actions in the country and beyond. “We want to thank your majesty for being and remaining a great friend of Romania,” the Romanian leader said.

In his turn, King Charles started his statement in Romanian before continuing in English: “Domnule presedinte, doamnelor si domnilor (Mr president, ladies and gentlemen). I can’t describe what great pleasure it gives me to be visiting Romania once again. […] I always felt rather at home in Romania.”

Moreover, the people he met here inspired him, the king also said, adding that he came to love Romania with its culture and art, heritage and history, landscapes and biodiversity.

King Charles is connected to Romania by his deep love for Transylvania, a region he has visited on many occasions in the last 25 years. His most recent visit to Romania was at the end of May 2022, when he visited a Ukrainian refugee center in Bucharest and launched a forest landscape restoration project.

What Is Trooping the Colour? All About King Charles' Birthday Parade

On Saturday, June 17, the King will be honored at Trooping the Colour, the annual birthday parade for the British sovereign. Though Charles has attended the quintessential royal event since he was a child — first for his grandfather, King George VI, and then for his mother, Queen Elizabeth — this year’s festivities are significant as his first as monarch.

According to the British Army, the ceremonial presentation of the military's regimental flags, called "colours," is believed to have first been performed during the reign of King Charles II, who ruled from 1660 to 1685. The parade was first formally linked to the monarch’s birthday during the reign of King George II in 1748 — and there was a practical reason for the event not being celebrated on the monarch's actual birth date.

“With a November birthday being too cold for a celebratory parade, he tied his celebrations in with the annual Trooping the Colour military parade,” Royal Museums Greenwich states, and history was set in motion.

Trooping the Colour got a permanent spot on the annual royal calendar following the accession of his grandson King George III in 1760 and has continued ever since. The epic military procession is typically held in June and serves as an official birthday for the reigning King or Queen — regardless of when their actual birthday may be.

On June 17, 1,500 soldiers, 300 horses and 400 musicians will come together for a patriotic display of military precision, horsemanship and fanfare. Members of the royal family travel by horse-drawn carriage or on horseback from Buckingham Palace and down The Mall to Horse Guard’s Parade at St. James’ Park, which is almost a mile away. There, the 74-year-old King will receive a royal salute and inspect troops representing the Regiments of the Household Division, sharply dressed in ceremonial uniforms of red tunics and bearskin hats.

Military bands will perform, regimental flags will process down the ranks and the Officer in Command of the Parade will issue words of command to direct the soldiers.

After the Foot Guards march past the monarch, King Charles will lead the procession back to Buckingham Palace and take another salute from a dais, according to the royal family's website.

    What is Trooping the Colour?
